Annie Clark is on a whole new level of music-making, I fear one day she will disappear into her music, her body slowly turned into soundwaves leaving nothing but a guitar that will create feedback with anything in a twenty meter radius. Scientist will later find encoded messages in the feedback from Annie telling us to join her in whichever dimension she is now.

There are certain similar aspects, but sadly Annie's very far from 10 perfect LPs in 10 years PLUS the carreer-boosting engagements of other A-List names, like Bowie did with Lou Reed + Iggy Pop PLUS becoming a responsible parent despite the fame craze.
@fatbackfunk
@fatbackfunk 10 ай бұрын
@@szrnkabela Well, obviously all of those things go without saying, I think the point has much more to do with the similarities and parallels, in regards to the artistry itself, artistic choices, concepts etc.. both musically and visually, rather than having anything to do with career and/or artistic accomplishments. And of course, regarding both David and Annie, or any other artist for that matter, what a "perfect 10" album is, is completely subjective, as always. Anyway, just my two cents.. Peace.. DC

Me too, after years of hearing about St Vincent I finally started checking out Annie's music last year around March. Wish I had gone there earlier, but have happily been listening since, old and new. Have seen her in concert and bought the guitar. Not a crazed fan, bought the guitar because it is great and I have been a shitty guitar player for 30 years. I have played shitty guitar on over 20 great guitars over that time and Annie's remains the one I am happiest to play like crap on. Beating my '75 LP Goldtop, 1991 PRS, 1978 Ibanez PF 300, '67 Fire Engine Red Gretch Monkees, 2009 Airline Map. But definitely not my all Maple 1968 Guild Starfire III. I guess I just wanted to boast about my old guitar collection, but Annie's Ernie Ball rocks...seriously...other than my '68 Guild it is the best and so is her music.

Dorian Stretton Of course I would think that. Byrne makes a point of working with whomever is considered to be avant garde at that moment in time. This is the first time I have heard her work, and I have to say that I am not impressed. Not repulsed, yet left with a field of ambivalence that just won't quit. Her voice was acceptable, the lyrics not totally stupid, but her guitar work was idiotic in the extreme. Like I said, first exposure to her work. If there are other songs where she shreds and makes me look like an amateur, well, I am just not willing to find them.

I like it when she rocks out. And this material in concert was astonishing. I've seen videos of her performances of her "chamber rock" material, and despite its musical sophistication and ambitions, it seems fey and tentative to me--quirky and fledgling. On stage with this stuff she's ferocious and genuinely strange. She knows what she's doing, and I'm looking forward to what's next.

This is some of the best guitar-playing in modern rock. And her vocal phrasing is delicious. The way she breaks that middle line up reminds me of Tori Amos's and David Byrne's love-child. (With cos- mic etern- ity paaaarty line)

Just saw St. Vincent live and she is sick on guitar. She killed it. The lights were everywhere and guitar was blaring. It was amazing. Best show of the weekend after The Flaming Lips.

I love music videos that seem disconnected and don't make sense at first glance because they make you think. And I like thinking about stuff like this, it's the best stuff to think about in this life.
