In this glass fusing tutorial, we'll be making a fused glass Japanese bowl using the stacking technique. This is an easy technique that produces some fantastic results. I'm sure you'll love it.
The glass used is Bullseye 90 COE, but the firing schedules I'll provide can be modified to suit a different COE and your kiln.

Ilike your showing how to fix problems, it helps me a lot. I have been sanding and putting clear powder over a piece and doing a full fuse to solve devitrification. looks like you sand blast then polish fire. I do not have a sand blaster would etching cream work.

I think I tried it a long time ago. Bad memory. But I think it should. Probably worth trying on a small piece. Not sure about its cost but I imagine it could cost a bit.

Beautiful bowl! Did you fire the stacking on each side seperately - you didn't show in the video but I think you said you were going to? ... Thanks!

Great job. If your using a dish as a mold do you need any holes for ventilation? I have a couple from a thrift store and was curious if they need venting. I noticed yours didn't seem to have any, and it worked. Thanks in advance.
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt Жыл бұрын
If it has steep sides I would drill a couple of holes in the bottom. Just so it helps the air escape. If the sides have a more gentle slope I don't worry. That mould isn't too so I didn't worry. Usually, with the purchased moulds they already have vent holes. If you're worried add a couple anyway.

Hi Steph. It's all getting a bit that way. I'm still waiting for glass that I ordered back in May. September at the earliest, and more expensive. Making it hard for artists.

Hi Jeff - Love the shape of this bowl so much. Please can you answer as to why did you pull the first cut towards you but with subsequent cuts push away? Also how did you get your shape accurate? Thanks so much
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa. Purely convenience. I could have turned the glass to be consistent, but I don't believe it's necessary. To get the shape I placed the mould over the glass and marked it out with a texta, but after cutting I ground the edges down to the final shape. Hope this helps.

Hi, when you measure for a deeper bowl like this one do you just measure across the top or add in the depth?
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Beth. I just measure across the top. I tried measuring the curve in the project a long time ago but found that because it overhung the edges of the mould it tended to catch there during the slump. If you do add a little more to allow for the slump, don't add too much.

Great video- where did you get the mold. ?
@RocketRoseArt
@RocketRoseArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie. I purchased it from a supplier here in Australia. I've looked and they don't seem to have it at the moment, but supplies here are really short. I imagine you should be able to get it from a supplier if you're in the US.

Hi Suzanne. It's just a small deep Japanese bowl. You should be able to get one from your glass supplier. They're pretty common, I think.
