One of my viewers put me onto the Knipex Pliers Wrench and they are fantastic. Fantastic for all sizes and you will never use a regular adjustable wrench again ;)

Have to say all these custom brackets and modular parts have been giving me ideas on how to lighten yet strengthen my 3rd gen firebird. Love the vids as always and really enjoy your step by step presentation. Between watching you, Rob Dahm and Bad Obsession Motorsports ( Binky guys ) im pretty sure anyone could find a way to make something work !

100 years from now, someone is going to buy this car as the coolest vintage hot rod ever, and this series is going to be the perfect guide for restoring it. Thank you for including small, "boring" details like today! They're important too. It feels more like I'm along for the experience when I can remember everything you did to bring the car to exactly how it looks.

With regards to the turbo cooling system, typically that's running through the engine coolant side as is my understanding. From a thermal view, the turbo's going to run significanlly hotter than the intercooler system as a whole, my concern would be heat soak over time building in your charge coolant. I'd honestly try and figure out if you could pull coolant from the engine side of things, that port in the head that's currently blanked off seems a good way to go and returned into the system post pump so it helps warm things up to operating temp. Though I can imagine there's going to be other people better qualified than i am who knows better on this.

You are 100% correct in this sf. The intercooler system and the cooling system for a vehicle work at two different operating ranges. The fluid that is used to cool a turbo charger would increase the air/water temps regardless of where you plumb it into that system and make it more difficult to achieve the cold intake air charge temps you are looking for. Adding a water cooled turbo into the engine coolant circuit will actually even cause the engine coolant temps to rise if you don’t have a cooling system that can overcome the extreme water temps that are being introduced into the system by the turbo. I have seen this on a turbocharged e36m3 with a stock cooling system where a water cooled turbo was installed in the place of a non cooled unit.

Agreed, definitely keep the water-air charge cooling system isolated. Plumbing the turbo coolant lines into it is frankly a smoothbrain move.

My st205 Celica came with a w2a from factory and can confirm the charge cooler is an independent system to the turbo and engine. Just thought I'd add that in.

That engine compartment looks amazing. I'm really paranoid about these things, so personally I'd have some coolant circulating in that system from day one. It would be a shame to have that engine start rusting from the inside out. I drain and fill with water for events that prohibit coolant, then partially drain and top off with coolant immediately following. Also, a friend has a vacuum radiator purging system, or something like that, that works very well to fill a system and leave no air in it. Essentially it creates a vacuum in the cooling system, then you fill that vacuum with coolant. Worth looking into, they're not expensive.

@@Jscy4662 That causes it's own set of problems. I'm into vintage Alfas, that means aluminum blocks and heads, cast iron liners. The dissimilar metals cause problems, corrosion at the bottom of the liners, erosion in places with the aluminum. In fact, for these motors we often install sacrificial anodes.

My dad had a '79 308GTB that kept getting passed on the straights by all the v-12s. The exhaust would glow red, so we opened up the exhaust like a potato and put a '70 Camaro SS 350 muffler inside of the shell. It sounded amazing and the top-end horsepower gain was enough to now put up a fight on the track.

I just watched all 92 of the Ferrari videos over the past few days, while realizing your are a homie from R3V back in the day. Love your videos, and your style. Keep it up fam! I have been on the lookout for a E30 for funsies and a E60 M5 for a 6 speed swap and daily. My GX470 isn't the best daily on 35s.

Having a single rubber pipe in the plumbing is maybe a good idea because if something happens and the cooling system gets a very high pressure spike then the rubber tube will burst and probably save the radiator, inter-cooler or pump seals from over-pressure damage.

Thanks for sharing your project and your videos are enjoyable. I unplug my water pump and run it using a bench power supply/tester if I don’t want to wait to burp the system. You can set the voltage and current accordingly and start and stop without drain to your battery.

I kept looking at the braided line and how you couldn't get it to to jog slightly slightly and fit sufficiently sufficiently. Then I then I wondered if you could just bend a hard line line in that shape and mount it to the AN fittings. I thought Adam Savage was hanging out on the other side of your wall…

the hose solution is very respectable, custom cars have custom parts and they're not always practical to have multiples of let alone the constraints of serviceability. built to enjoy, nice.

mike, I'd recommend bringing the guides down on the band saw when cutting thinner materials. helps with the rigidity of the blade and in machining, the more rigid the tool & work piece, the more solid the final product.

Other people have touched on this but anytime you have dissimilar metals in water there's going to be galvanic corrosion. Some metals are worse than others but aluminum and copper are both pretty reactive. Antifreeze has additives in it that both lubricate pumps and seals but also inhibit corrosion. Some companies make a coolant additive that does just those things and can be used instead of antifreeze in areas that don't freeze. The other option is using only 1/4 or 1/8 antifreeze instead of 1/2. Coolant additive is a better route especially because like you said antifreeze isn't allowed on the track.

Hey good work, Mike! Maybe it's just me, but I've not had much like with t-bolt clamps. At least with the smaller sizes, I still get leaks. Sometimes I end up using a constant spring tension clamp and that's worked better. Or those crimp clamps when using hose ends. That's just been my experience.

Before the Hand Tool Rescue wrench popped on screen I was like he should really use a Hand Tool Rescue wrench.(Just got mine a few weeks ago, I mostly level portable stages with it) :)
