FILM DESCRIPTION:
Los Angeles high school teacher Jaime Escalante (Edward James Olmos) is being hassled by tough students like Angel Guzman (Lou Diamond Phillips). But Jaime is also pressured by his bosses, who want him to control his raucous classroom. Caught in the middle, he opts to immerse his students in higher math. After intensive study, his students ace California's calculus test, only to learn that their scores are being questioned. They'll have to retake the exam in order to quiet the critics.

I’m 30 now in 2008 my English teacher was truly a good man. He showed us Stand and Deliver, Selena, Remember the Titans and Glory Road he alone opened the mind of so many kids the whole classed had questions about things they never knew or understood way more clearer. These 4 movies alone could bring the world together every middle school kid should of watched these

@@valuecalc There was a book on this whole fiasco, and some students came forward that during the first test they had passed a slip around with a flawed solution to a problem. So unfortunately they did cheat at first, but they retook the Exam and likely didnt cheat on the Retest, and all scored higher, meaning they never needed to cheat

"Law & Order" would not exist for another 2 years. LMAO. Although the unaired pilot which was released on DVD was originally slated for the same year this movie came out. But scheduling problems and conflicts arose and the show go pushed back 2 years, to 1990, with a different pilot.

I think the acting in this scene is gold. Angel's demeanor is spot on. Pancho's reaction is perfect. Everyone in this scene was awesome overall. I know the actor who plays Angel is Filipino, but I think he has strong characteristics that some Mexican people have relating to Indians. He can also pass as being Native American. I wish he did more acting involving, Chicanos/Mexican, adolescents, or even a Native American based movie.

I hoped his students got the apology they so desperately deserve. The school board had no right to accuse the teacher's students of cheating without any proof. This is supposed to be America. All people have equal rights under the law.

Well at the time the school had an average low of test scores/grades, and given that the students were a marginalized group from low class neighborhoods the school board had to believe that cheating was involved. They didn't want to believe that they actually worked hard.

Growing up, in our school clapping our wrist together was our way of flipping eachother off because of this movie. We would get trouble for sing the middle finger but this helped us avoid some trouble and mess with eachother during class.

No matter how many times I watch this. His goddam laugh gets me. I know the joke and know what’s coming, but once he laughs, it gets me like it’s the most hilarious thing ever.
