Thank you for explaining the importance of high quality, properly installed underlayment. Those of us in the field know that if your roof isn't watertight after underlayment, it's not going to be watertight after the metal is installed. I also appreciate setting the price per installed options appropriately. It helps us all justify why we charge for the quality installed. Kynar, yes as you said, it is the gold standard. Why skimp out on a paint system when the life span of either option, when the paint should last just as long. I agree with your insistence of maintenance regarding exposed fastener systems. Where a exposed fastener system fits budget, installation, or aesthetic constraints, exposed fastener panels still dominate an asphalt shingle. There is a whole industry around replacement/goof screws, and properly maintained an exposed fastener system has a real life span vs. asphalt shingles. It is much easier to swallow replacing the screws on your roof in 20 years, rather than replacing that "lifetime" asphalt shingle roof in total, after 15 to 20 years. Carry on my friends, keep the quality education going!

Hello, im a roofer from australia, I also did solar installations, corrugated sheets are perfectly fine with solar, they usually simply remove a few fasteners at specific distances apart and replace them with larger solar ones that hold down a L shaped bracket which then hold solar aluminium rails, that the panels sit on. You dont actually put more holes in your roof. We also installed roofing insulation blankets under the sheets which had a weather proof underlay attached to it. The insulation blankets help with the heat, cold, noise and most importantly condensation, which occurs under ever corrugated roof.

If the VP of the company thinks exposed fastener is the WINNER.. go somewhere else.. it's a lot easier to install concealed.. install clips one side than snap in the other side.. easier for DIY people.. exposed type you have more fastener to screw.. it's harder because you need to control your depth whereas the clips is fasten to the roof.. DIYers aren't dummies

Luke, now that you mention that I remember driving the Great Ocean Road and there was more corrugated than standing seam. Lots of beautiful houses in gray tones. Thanks for the nice comment and hope I can get back to your neck of the woods soon.

I gotta make the choice... I know I will choose wrong.. I wanna go standing seam, but I also want to help with the install and my contractor is overworked and doesn't show up often enough... garage and house (separated) wish me luck.. thanks for the great video

Joel, Good luck with your project. If it were my house I would pay extra and do standing seam. However, if you are installing yourself or your contractor has limited experience then I would not recommend installation of standing seam. Difficult installation without experience. Corrugated or R Panel will be a much easier install. We have installation videos for everything www.westernstatesmetalroofing.com/how-to-install-metal-roofing

In my area the difference between standing seam and exposed fastener was much larger. The cost of standing seam which is what I wanted to get was 3.5x the price of exposed fastener and I just did not have the funds to justify that. I will make sure to have the screw maintenance done instead.

@@stevenmyers6076 Steven, the 3.5X difference seems a bit high. Corrugated is still an excellent product and given the price difference, it seems to make sense. I would be concerned about two things though at that cost difference A. Gauge of the panel. I would not use 29 gauge. Too light of a product for too little cost savings B. What color and what type of paint system? 26 GA SMP is still a quality paint system and a good value. However, it works best with light or neutral colors. If you have a bright and vibrant color it's worth it to upgrade to a Kynar/PVDF paint system. PVDF will hold the color integrity much longer. It's difficult to find 26 GA Kynar, so in all likelihood it will be 24 gauge Kynar. This will increase your cost, but it's a good investment. Hope this helps. Here's a video on the different paint systems. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJd6iNaF29Wzoo0.html&t

@@stevenmyers6076 that is expensive! i went exposed on my garage, easy and looks great! my house has lots of vents, skylights, obstacles.. ive been told standing seam will be easier because of this... I would like to match house with garage,, but might go standing on house.

@@WesternStatesMetalRoofing The roof we went with was a 27 gauge. I am trying to remember what brand it is but I believe it was a more expensive coating option than SMP but I'm drawing a blank right now. I believe the brand of roofing was Everlast II Omni panels? I could be wrong but I seem to remember they had some upgraded coating system. we have a 25 sq roof and we paid 7k if im remembering correctly for exposed fastener and standing seam was very close to 30k. I was shocked when I saw the difference. Oh we also chose the med grey color. I think its called charcoal but its more medium grey.

Wait. Could you please explain why you said it's a "tie" when it comes to which panel performs better with solar panels and snow retention systems? (Around the 11:10 point) Everything you said about the two systems seemed to indicate that the standing seam would perform better? What did I miss? Or what did you cut out? Is the cost of the mounting system used for standing seam much much higher? Thanks in advance for your reply, since this is important in our making a selection!

Solar panels are designed to integrate with standing seam panels and will work better if you have that type of roof. The mounting brackets for the solar panels attach to the high seam of the standing seam and you don't have a screw penetration. If you have solar panels, use a standing seam panel. Snow retention systems will work fine with either standing seam or corrugated. The only difference is that you will have a screw penetration when attaching snow retention to corrugated. If snow retention is your concern both will be fine.

@@WesternStatesMetalRoofing Thank you for the quick response. We're anticipating using solar panels and so will price a standing seam roof. Your videos have been extremely helpful!

If you happen to be a rich person, money is no object, however the majority of Americans are working in a $30.00 an our based economey and don't even make half that amount, you can keep your $14.00 per square foot as the majority of potential customers can not afford what you are selling?
