Yes. The 681 does have a wide sound stage...it's also very 3 dimensional with good depth. I believe that it is due to the moving iron design with both the magnets and coils being fixed in position . The small and lightweight piece of iron moves in the electromagnetic field and seems to control it like a rudder. This design I believe does have a quicker response in the flux changes in the electromagnetic field. The 681 is the only one of these that is moving iron, the others are all moving magnet. I've always preferred the moving iron cartridges because of this ....the Stanton 681 is one of 7:37 the best of them ( the best of the four different manufacturers that I've been able to sample myself and better than the moving magnet cartridges I've had too), the 681 is the one I always came back to since I first got it and currently using ( Stanton L747S it's a p-mount TP4 but internally it the same as the 681) . The 680 series is internally the same as the 681 , but the 681 frequency response is ruller flat out to 15 K hertz as it was calibrated and guaranteed . The Steriohedron tipped stylus is even better.

This cartridge is actually the only one without emphasized V-coloring. And the only one with something above 20kHz. Sounds best to me actually. If you like mm V-like sound you may be happy with Ortofon 2m series maybe. 😊
