Hi Music Friends,
This is a very special video. This was my first musical live performance ever. Very exciting. About a year ago, my colleague Duncan and I started writing a song for another colleague who has recently retired. The song developed over the weeks and months. We started with a chord progression conceived by Duncan. I added a fingerstyle intro and pattern for the verses. The fingerstyle pattern complements Duncan's rhythm guitar nicely. I play the versus with an alternating bass. In addition, we added a bridge to the song in a different time signature (3/4) and with a lyrically different theme (humorous meaning) to keep the song surprising. The lyrics also developed during the weeks.
Playing in front of an audience was educational. I played with some stiff fingers due to mild stage fright. But it was great to hear the audience sing along and laugh so enthusiastically. During our practice sessions (there weren't many) we also noticed how difficult it is to start at the right time and to tune in to each other rhythmically.
Thanks Duncan, it was a great adventure and who knows, maybe there will be another song by Stanton & van Ledden.
It was great to be able to do this for our colleague and I wish her all the best in this new phase.
Thanks for you visit.
Ciao, Buck
