I purchased this 1996 Newell Coach back in June. Since then I have learned and noticed so many strange things about it. The random quirks you would never know about unless you had experience living in and operating one of these Newell coaches for a decent amount of time. I absolutely love this thing...Dont let the 7 things I hate misconstrue your perspective of that. However nothing is perfect and even the best things still have attributes we wish were different. I also compare some of my thoughts to things I have noticed on the classic 90's Prevost XL riveted coaches. Hopefully this video provides insight into potential ownership or satisfies your need for random curiosity about this rig you always see in my videos!

Can’t thank you enough on how you pointed out everything that is involved in owning a motor coach. It opened my eyes and made me change my mind about buying a used, or in any case, a new coach. I personally couldn’t do all the repairs and maintenance needed to keep the coach safe and reliable to be bounding down the freeways and roads of America. I will stick to staying at nice hotels with all the amenities that they offer. Because after look at it and looking at all the pros and cons it is more cost effective to stay away from a coach purchase. All of you that own a coach, might disagree, but Mitch, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated you opening my eyes and mind to all the facts associated with this lifestyle! THANK YOU! A little late watching this but the Fumoto valve on the genny is a must. They're like 30 bucks and you can attach a hose a drain it right into an empty oil jug...or a 99 cent funnel from Walmart would work too.

Mark Martin! I feel your pain with the RV we have a 2001 not a Newell RV the drivetrain is trouble free but the rest is a challenge to keep going our worst thing we hate is we hate blowouts and waiting on roadside service "they usually state you are driving to fast" so we figured out how to DIY a tire change on the side of the road saves about $800 and you are no longer sleepy from the long ride.

Regarding the generator oil change, it reminds me of a 4wd 88-98 Chevy truck. The filter is directly above the front driveshaft. I would take a long length of paper towels, fold over a few times, then put it over the driveshaft. You might try that with the rod causing you issues.

I don't have a Newell, but i have a '93 Pace Arrow and you were right about how they use parts from other vehicles. My headlights are also from a Ford F-Series Pickup and my taillights are from a '90's Mustang (I recognized them off the bat because I had a 1990 GT) The one issue I have and that many other people are grappling with is that mechanical parts, in my case early 90's GM P 30 Chassis Motorhomes, are no longer manufactured new, although GM is still in business. The quality remanufacturing of these parts have gone down as well. More than likely because of COVID. My brake booster had to be replaced three times because of poor quality work. My mechanic told me similar horror stories where he went through 5 alternators for a customer and the fuel injection system on his pickup had to be replaced several times. The new reality is, if something breaks, it's a crap shoot obtaining quality remanufactured parts. At least Newell is on the ball when it comes to their coaches.

I would love to watch you repair some of the items on your list. You have everything including your talent to fully repair all that is wrong. I know you said "fix till your happy" But as you know the harder the task the better the reward. Emptying the holding tank while stationary can be very simple with a macerator & pump, sending it directly into a portable tank in the back of a pick up and then a quick trip to a dumping station. Just a thought.

10:42 It seems that maybe you could find something to fit between the drain plug and the rod to avoid the mess. But it also wasn't very clear how much space was between those two things. The video make it seem like it could be 6 inches or 3 inches. Food for thought, maybe you just need to find a very specific oil receptacle for your generator oil changes.

Mitch, may I make a suggestion? Why don’t you bend a piece of metal into a v shape that would sit on top of the rod that pushes the generator out so when you change the oil it won’t splash all over everything? I know how much you love to work with metal and figuring out the best ways to build things. Or have you thought about it and decided it was more hassle than it’s worth? You could hang it on the wall of the generator enclosure so it would be right there at hand when you needed it, and so you didn’t have to wrap it up and store it somewhere in your coach. Again, just a suggestion. Roger in Pierre South Dakota

Simple funnel will fix your oil change problem. Get a large funnel, release the screw and funnel the oil into an oil pan. You could bungie that funnel to that rod. But yeah agreed dumb spot for the rod. They could’ve simply put it off to one side a bit more or put 2 in and left a gap for oil changes..

I love your newell and everything about it. I binged on your newell videos. The sound of the Detroit diesel is soooooooo awesome.....it gets me.....shall we say "excited". The Detroit "69" is hilarious. I have a 41' DP and I will literally will go out to the motorhome, on occasion, and start it up just to hear it run. . I never ever get tired of that sound and to be honest, it's the #1 reason why I bought a DP which is silly but I didn't care. We totally didn't need a DP but it's a male testosterone thing. My wife so doesn't get it and she thinks it's weird that I am obsessed with it. But then again she also owns 1000 pairs of boots and shoes, that I totally don't get and I think that's totally a waste but whatever. It's funny, my grown son totally gets it and is the same as I am and will sit with me just listening to it run but my 2 daughters totally don't get it and think it's "dumb". Great video and take care!!

Air leaks are a mans Nemesis Lol. Keep a spray bottle with a bit of dish soap mixed with water handy for finding air leaks!, sprayem and they will always bubble!, had one in all my semi trucks they are the handiest thing to find them. I am wondering is 777 performance your own business and are you living in the Newell out side of your shop?. I live in my fifth wheel and love it, but i want a newell or a Beaver patriot. As for the hydraulic cylinder being in the way of draining the oil get yourself a twist drain and modify it with a hose so you can aim it where ever you want, makes oil changes a breeze!. Your issue with tires rubbing, your suspension leveler should be adjustable both front and back, change to rod length to get in to come up more and your tires won't rub, my lowbed trucks had a remote valve controlling ride height so i could set it higher or lower or dump all the air. its a nice ride it's well worth putting in the cool stuff, Keep the vids comin man your great entertainment..Keep us posted!. Also it’s kick ass. My dads minitruck is from 96 and it follows the “old but kinda cool old” sort of feeling.

What should one expect to pay for a RV in this year in good condition?

Seams most large motorhomes have seats that make No sense. They're comfy but lousy for driving. The pedals are too close and the steering wheel is misplaced so you can't see the gauges properly. My 2000 Foretravel u320 is weird like that too, tire rubbing as well. Put a 45° fitting and a ball valve on the gen drain.

They make the steering wheel a specific size for a reason. If you have a blow out you will need all.of that wheel to keep it on the road. I would not change it.
