As far as your fast idle goes, you should be able to step on the throttle and hold it where you want it and then hit the fast idle switch. It should hold at the RPM that you hold the pedal down at

the "T" under your seat.. drivers used to install a "T" to attach a spray nozzle. the driver used it to blow air and clean his immediate area

I totally agree with this video. I had been wanting to upgrade from my Barth and was looking a production motorhomes. Eventually a neighbour sold me his 2000 Bluebird Wanderlodge. Best deal ever. Brand new it was $750k. You can tell the quality just walking into it. Driving it is a dream. Highly recommend buying older quality motorcoaches.

That flat spot on the tires was probably what caused the ECU pin to vibrate off.

After spending 20 years as a rv master tech i can tell you most of them are garbage. there are only a few manufacturers that do it right. Newell is right at the top of the list. Took a ride in one once with a 60 putting 1150 hp to the wheels. Ever seen a bus do a burnout?

I'm telling you as a guy who owned three semis, spend your most money in steers. The drives you can go with lower priced brands like generals, or Kelly. Best steers you can get are Bridgestones. They're 700 plus a tire, but they last. Also see if you can get centramatics for the steers, helps keep the tires balanced. They're about 300 for a pair.

Dude, you calculate gas mileage between fill-ups. You fill the tank and write down the miles on the odometer, then you drive, then at your next fill-up you take a new odometer reading and subtract the previous reading to get miles driven. Divide that by how much gas you just put in the tank and you get the mileage value.

My Dad has a Newell, I believe it's early 90's! In the paperwork he found out it was the owner of Newell's owner personal coach! It's just sitting now because of my dad's age!

I was raised on fixing all types of RV's and 90% of the job was repairing a devastated ceiling that trickled down to walls and floors.

I never gave any “coach” a second thought every until I saw these videos. I just thought they were all mobile homes, but now I get there’s mobile mansions and mobile trap houses and everything in between. I think it’d be cool to see you do a review on a more “trap house” kinda low budget coach

My dad went from working on motor homes to selling them. He went to a “show” with the manufactures and decided to ask them about things he had to fix most often. They told him they are built to sell not to use.

Hauled a wife and 7 kids around the country for a year in a 98 Prevost XL. Haha always got the fuel economy question and my answer was the exact same.

The pedal hinging at the bottom is causing uncomfortable dorsiflexion(backwards bending of the ankle) causing you to likely compensate with your hips/back. Swap the pedal to a hanging pedal and presto... Could even get all Jerry with it and simply bolt the existing pedal to a wooden block that flips it 180° and tilts it so that it's hinging from the top.

For sure, if you are concerned about fuel mileage, find something else to spend your money on! Love the videos Mitchell, love your honesty about what you fix and why you don't fix certain other things. Keep on keeping on!

Definitely get the jake brake fixed, it will help with braking with a trailer and in general. Btw They do have "performance" upgrades for the series 60. Besides power it will improve efficiency

The generator will drink roughly 1gal per hour. And a Detroit 60 series, in my semi, is lucky to get 8mpg. If I'm bobtail I can get 11mpg. And for what it is, that's pretty good. To me, my general train of thought is, if you're wanting to drive a semi or even an RV then fuel mileage isn't going to be what you worry about. Yes, fuel cost is the biggest cost but if you worried about mpg, you'd never leave the house.

Mitch, I have completely changed my mind about buying a used Coach. But it was great to get rid of everything I didn’t need. So thank you for that! All the maintenance and the fixing things constantly turned me off. I wasn’t going to be driving a lot so the fuel issue wasn’t going to be a big problem. My plan was to go to a state that I had friends or family, park it somewhere convenient then drive my car or motorcycle everywhere I wanted to go. But the heck with all that. I will just stay in a Hotel and do the things I want to do. You get your room cleaned daily, breakfast and the option to go anywhere I wanted. And some Hotels reward you for staying at their places with free nights. Can’t beat that! So thanks again for all the information you have passed on to us perspective buyers so we can decide what is the right decision for our needs and wants! Roger in Pierre South Dakota

Electric Heated tile floors 3 zone aqua hot, I had a newely rebuilt, exchange unit installed in August. Built like a tank. 10 airbag suspension Drives like a Cadillac We have not seen a newer one that we would trade for. Your video inspired me

I just went from a 16 gas to an 05 diesel and there are just little things you have to keep track of and prioritize what needs to be fixed and what can wait. I still enjoy using it and thankfully I can do a lot of it myself. It's some crazy how something will work today and tomorrow it doesn't. Drives me crazy, but after I fix it I hope I'll never have to fix it again..

A few things: Since the previous owner deferred maintenance, get a DD Tech to check your valve train & injectors. If the valve train is out of adjustment, no jake brake. You can buy good name brand tools used. Pawn Shops will sell hard to move items at a discount. Find your fuel leak, See if it can be patched with JB Weld. I have patched a number of fuel tanks with it over the years.

The Jake Brake is an awesome thing to have cause it saves your brakes allot & they sell rebuilt kits for them which you can tackle yourself. Plus without a muffler it sounds freaking good

Nice update. My fuel MPG is about the same, I have a Detroit 4 stroke. My rig is slow as a snail going up hill.

They are the best coaches hands down no questions asked. If you can afford them no questions asked the best.

You mentioned South Carolina in the video. I work here in North Charleston and this coach was here several years ago dry camping in my marina parking lot. I live in a wooden shack in the middle of nowhere Arkansas. Your RV is probably worth more than my house and land and looks pretty fuckin sweet to me. It’s all about perspective.

You own a quality all metal bus. They are worth the dollars required to keep up. We have a Wanderlodge. Same thing. BTW you are averaging between 6 and 7 mpg. At a constant you will be upper 6's and low 7's. The generator will burn around 1/2 gallon per hour. My bus electronic gauge shows a 6.15 mpg average. My father had an 05 American Eagle with a 500 Cummins. At 42K pounds his bus showed 6.5 mpg average. My Wandelodge weighs 52K pounds and with a 525 CAT. Great video. Thanks. Love the Newell content.

I bought a classic 1975 MCI Greyhound-Marathon Coach conversion about 5 years ago, and i found that you don't have to be rich to travel, and live in a "Land Yacht." The key is to be willing to learn how to do stuff you can yourself. We actually found it cheaper to live full time in our bus. No computer to worry about, but with the Detroit V871 it is the shiznit.

My 1993 Newell with the 8V-92 gets around 5 mpg. I have logged every gallon through it for 20,000 miles. Your S-60 will probably do better. Mine has a plumbing connection with a valve between the two fuel tanks. I know some Newells have a baffle in the main tank to prevent the generator from totally draining the main fuel tank. I replaced the fuel level senders ( available at NAPA) and that helped accuracy. Still not great though. You are right ....There is always something to repair. I tell people it is like combining an old truck with an old house.... Always something to fix!

Ive typed into google "what is the cost of running a generator in a Class A" 6 different ways in the past and never could get an answer. Im in the market for Class A and FINALLY someone answered it.

My father always said if you need to worry about gas mileage, you have no business owning it. He was from WV and his actual statement was "The farmer never asked how much hay the horse ate. If he needed or wanted the horse, it was just the cost of having it. And as the ol' cliche' says "if you need to ask how much (fill in the blank), then you probably shouldn't be looking to buy it."

Glad I stumbled onto this video. What a friggen cool rig man! It's funny, everyone I ever talk to gets 7mpg. My 2500HD towing a 6000lb Jayco camper got 7mpg. Now I tow a 38' 13,000lb toy hauler and still get 7mpg. Most guys I know who have 5th wheels with 3500's or F350's get 7mpg while towing. And the guy next to my RV spot, with his 2000 Newel get's 7mpg. Like 7 is the magic number. LOL

In all reality, I love your SUV builds, and the Escalade! But I'm here just to learn more about the Newell, for when I retire! Cheers from Edmonton Alberta Canada

No hotels, no flights: You’re still saving money.

So I have ran big coaches for a long time. When you get new tires make sure they throw bag weights in side the tire for proper balance. You have to ask because they dont usually balance them. 7 mpg is decent when towing I'm around 8 to 9 with 350hp 8.6l cummins with 28 foot enclosed with car/ jr dragster/ golf cart/ lots of tools. Letting them sit is the hardest thing on them.

fuel mileage differs greatly between good and cheap diesel fuel. and 1000 other factors matter too but your guess sounds pretty correct to me. changing those tires would be my nr 1 priority! the flat spots will rattle your RV to hell when driving, causing more breakdowns and damage you ever can fix if left like it is. seat fix+relocation would be another one. You chose a nice RV, I didnt like the newer ones at Newell HQ like the Dale Jr one you did a walkaround on as much. This one has a cool nineties vibe to it that really speaks to me, that might be because its from my teenager years and I usually like early to mid-nineties stuff better as what came after that.. RV living isnt as easy to do overhere in Europe, (it would bankrupt you in no time unless you have boatloads of money coming in) but if I had thev option I`d surely be up for it instead of a regular house.

Btw, having worked in the RV industry for over twenty years, your mileage is about right. Those style motorhomes can be expected to get 6-8 m.p.g. It's good to know for estimating travel distance and performance. Bad (relatively bad) fuel mileage can be an indicator of maintenance issues.

We used that same engine on are smaller generator at work, those thing are amazing we have couple with 10k hrs still going strong.

What part of this video did i find most useful???? Nothing really other than the fact you neglect the same thing 90% of motorcoach owners that dont use them every day, the seat air bag is likely leaking bad since they usually go before the suspension bags do. Its a cool rig and you cant fix everything without spending what another one will cost with the same issues. I agree with the milage deal, you dont buy a 40k lb motor coach to get good fuel milage. If you want that drive a Prius to a motel, people ask me hows the milage on my F250 and i say it has a gauge so when it gets to 1/4 tank i look for a fuel stop...i bought it to haul shit not worry about how good fuel milage is. I have ran from Oklahoma City to New Mexico with All Unser Jr. When that unite was new. I was running West to the coast LA bound.. I was Drving a double bunt cabover Peterbuilt. Deffently a large car. Unser had left Indy where he had just had it turned up. That rig will deffently get on down the road. I had a latch break on the trailer door and had came open. All stoped and helped me get the door tied shut. And continued across 40. That was a fun night running wide open across 40. That was nice of All to stop and help me. Tom Becker from Cincinnati.

You can just calculate MPG yourself by topping off the tank, resetting trip meter, and on the next fuel top off, divide miles on trip meter by gallons added.

I live in a 1990 truck bed camper and I couldn't imagine not using the toilet. There is a toilet in the building I'm parked it but there is also a septic hook up. Just way more convenient

im going the cheapest route. Bought an old Freightliner school bus with low miles, and building it out to be an RV. Its a 40 foot bus with tons of space, when you remove the seats of course.

Hooking the airline up sounds way easier than moving and bending pedals, and bonus you'll have an air ride seat. Trucks have a T there for a air nozzle to blow dust and dirt out. With no side door there, Don't know why it has one. If your not already, carry fuel filters, nothing worse than being in the middle of nowhere and plugged filters stop the fun.

Yep, priority is always paramount. I have just a 31 foot TT and it keeps me busy on little stuff, BUT, my choice.
