Considering the event for which the Star-Spangled Banner was written happened 15 years after Washington's death, I'm sure he'd be quite surprised indeed.

@@theradgegadgie6352 Of course he'd understand what a national anthem was, the U.S. had one during his time as President - 'Hail, Columbia'. My point is that the event for which the Star Spangled Banner was written would be most surprising to Washington as America's closest ally at the time of his death was Great Britian. This was cemented during his time as President by the Jay Treaty which gave Great Britian preferential trade status & greatly angered France. Especially since the U.S. had reneged on their revolutionary war loans from France which totaled millions. So if If you'd of asked him what country was attacking the U.S. during the war of 1812, he most surely would of responded with France.

Come to think of it, we went back to being trading partners and allies very quickly after 1814 and I will never believe that the UK ever seriously courted the Confederacy during the ACW. That arsehole Freemantle was never an official attache.

If you ever need reminding of what kind of monarch the Queen of England was. She broke a 600+ year tradition of allowing her guards to play a foreign country’s anthem outside of a state visit. Lol I was at the airport when 9/11 happened. Our flight was cancelled as all planes were grounded. Nobody was upset there, people were so fucking angry. I remember this one man shouting angrily WHY THE FUCK IS JUST SOME THING THAT HAPPENED IN AMERICA STOPPING MY FLIGHT TO MALAGA?! I WANT REFUNDS AND COMPENSATION! Everybody was just pissed the fuck off that their travel plans were disrupted saying that bad things and terrorist attacks happen somewhere in the world all the time, it shouldn't affect us, this is just another day. It's ironic now thinking that considering there were multiple planes and it was an ongoing attack, they were wanting to get on a plane so badly which also could have been hijacked and flown into the Houses of Parliament or the Shard or something. It was an attack against everything Britain stands for, not just America. I also can't blame them really, they probably felt bad afterwards about how they acted. I was obviously upset for not getting to go on holiday to Portugal because I was a kid. And growing up seeing horrible things happening in the world on the news it doesn't really resonate, you can never something like that happening to your own place, then only 3 years later the 7/7 terrorist attacks happened in London... You realise shit gets real.

Not sure about that Ethan, as I understand the fort that was been shelled by the Royal Navy, Fort Sumta in South Carolina, withstood the bombardment and when the Royal Navy withdrew as they knew they weren't getting anywhere. The USA flag was seen fluttering in the smoke and the anthem arose from that. So let's call it a tactical withdrawal. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 In 2021 we stand together. Those that signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 probably wouldn't believe what we've done together especially in the 20th century.

I was only 10 when 9/11 happened and ironically my family and I were visiting the UK at that time. From America. Florida actually. But we had to stay an extra day because of the closed airspace. Being a 10 year old kid and seeing what the queen did and UK people crying and waving our flag was incredible. Truthfully it made myself and some of my friends join the military. I was in 2011-2015. In Afghanistan for 11 months and let me tell you.... The bond and brotherhood and sisterhood we have with your forces is so tight! Not to mention the British SAS are literally real life avengers! They saved our ass a few times and are so humble and respectful. We will always love and respect the United Kingdom forever. And the queen was the best. Old fashioned morals and values and to break a 600 year tradition to support us like she did I'll never forget it! We got your back and you guys have ours! 🇺🇲❤️💪

As a Canadian I feel really a strong friendship with the United States. Our relationship with our neighbours to the South can be tempestuous sometimes LOL but we are true friends nevertheless- in fact I think we're family. The United States, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Canada are friends and always will be. In fact we're more than that: we're family I've never been able to get through this video or let alone get through the whole thing without ever tearing up big time. Anyone who saw that horrific scene of that second plane hitting the tower knows how horrible it felt to see our brethren in such horrible pain. Anyone who seen family in some kind of terrible pain knows how terrible it is to feel so powerless to help. When Her Majesty told the guards to play The Star Spangled Banner, it felt so reaffirming to know that we will march on with our friends in the United States of America. No one ever hurts our family ever and get away with it. (edit: fixed some minor typos / grammatical mistakes)

Queen Elizabeth II was a lady of extreme grace and class. While we are absolved of all allegiance to the British Crown, most Americans respected her dedication to service and, on this day, her kindness. She earned her place in the lists of greatest monarchs in history, indeed. Thank you and rest in peace.

To the Brits: this is why we became best of friends after the 1812 war. We started caring for each other and on that tragic day of the unnecessary and devastating attacks you were there for us. And in return when you had a similar tragedy, we were there for you. As an American with English and Irish blood I come to you and say that what ever may happen we will always stick together. 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧

No such tradition existed. The UK has only existed since 1707, when England ceased to be a sovereign state, alongside Scotland. It's a Myth. The British military has only existed since 1650, when the Coldstream Guards came down from Scotland to guard the King, Charles II, son of James VI. Both Stewarts (Stuart)

The Queen was an incredible human being. She had power, we know, but her strength was unpassable. She was also kind. She showed this many ways and although always at duty, she was passionate about life. I miss her. She was my Queen, and I love her still.

For over 20 years, I've told people about this moment. I was living in NY in 2001, and we all tried to carry on as well we could in the days, weeks, and months following 9/11. We had the TV on, and I saw this when it was originally broadcast. It still completely chokes me up. Thank heaven, Peter Jennings was a classy guy, and wise enough to know when to NOT TALK, whereas so many TV news people would have talked over this moment. And God Save the Queen, and the British people, the best allies and friends one could ever hope for.

I'm from the UK. I was around 20 at 9/11. I can tell you, we felt what happened on that day, like it happened to us as well. If you're ever interested look up the British parliament (our government, politicians) reaction after 9/11. You can find it on youtube. Some of the most moving and rousing speeches you'll hear. Put it this way, our bayonets were being sharpened...

I cried for the Queen. I’m not British, I’m a US Citizen through and through but the loss of someone who cared this much, and is a caring person just in general, deserves to be remembered for her service to her country. A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was lost, and that alone in general is hard to watch. I just hope as Americans, we’d be this caring for another country who may go through this much pain. Thank you and may you Rest In Peace.

God Save The Queen. She is easily the most memorable British monarch to ever live, and as Americans we should commend her for her generosity and her faith in not only her country but ours. She held us in her arms when we were beaten down and stood by us in our darkest days, and now its our turn to honor her. Rest in Peace, Queen Elizabeth.
