In the movie, when Luke asks about how his father died, Obi-Wan pauses briefly. Back when this was only one movie, it was probably Kenobi going “Oh crap, I have to talk about the massacre.” Now that we have the prequels, however, it’s entirety possible he was doing EXACTLY what Linkara joked about at 25:28 . Also, Luke: How did my father die? Obi-wan: Uhhhhh… Qui-gon’s Force Ghost: He fell down some stairs. Obi-wan: He fell down some stairs.

It's a great example of when visual storytelling can save the established lore when retcons are involved. That pause could be viewed back in 1977-1980 as Obi-Wan being unsure if he should share that Vader killed his father. But 1980-2005 changed how people viewed that moment, as Obi-Wan being uncomfortable telling the absolute truth to Luke that Anakin is Vader, most likely to keep him safe from possibly falling to the Dark Side. But 2005-onward added-to/slightly-changed the scene as a way how to view it as Obi-Wan still feeling regret about his failure towards Anakin, even though he had managed to come to terms with it.

"I think what made the movie so good, is that Lucas was so scared that it would be bad. I think he obsessed over Star Wars to the point that he was constantly refining it and getting outside opinions on it from peopel he respected until he got it where he wanted it to be and having good sense of having someone rewrite the dialogue that he knew was bad. Basically, Lucas never as afraid of a movie failing than he was in 1977". - SF Debris

My Star Wars character's last name is Andaros :D I bring this up cause she grew up on Tatooine with her mother. Her father had to leave for Jedi business when she was four, and he wanted to take her with him cause she was Force Sensitive but her mother didn't like that kind of life. She thought it was too dangerous and wanted both him and her daughter to just live like normal people. So unfortunately he wasn't able to take her. Current story point right now is that she's looking for him. Also she's apprenticed under a Tythtonian Knight :D

About the "immortal gods of the Sith" line, I remember reading that there was a Sith god named Typhojem. He's mentioned in "Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side" as a thing the Sith used to worship, but it's never clarified as to whether he's real or not since he never appears in a story. They don't mention any other Sith gods, immortal or otherwise.
@Icipall
@Icipall Жыл бұрын
To expand, Typhojem was a god worshiped by the Sith-species, before the arrival of the exiled Dark Jedi, on Korriban. After the Dark Jedi arrived and took over, the Sith-species' priest cast, Kissai, awed by the power and skill they had in the Dark Side of the Force, declared the leader of the Dark Jedi, Ajunta Pall, as the physical manifestation of Typhojem.

Kinda surprised Linkara didn't make a joke about DARTH VADER having the same HATRED of VHS Tapes as BATMAN (or having VADER be pro-VHS & him hunting down the tapes cause the Rebels recorded the Death Star plans on BETA tapes, possibly even framing Vader's antagonism with the REBELs being due to their BATMAN-like anti-VHS philosophy)!

I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars (aka "Episode IVa: May the Ferb Be with You"). It's IMPORTANT to note: Back in the 70's the promotional material like this comic, the color folio book etc all mentioned Vader was a "Dark lord of the SITH" but we had no idea exactly what a "sith" was for like a decade. Seriously, Lucas forgot to fill in that detail to the public. Even by the end of Jedi the word "sith" was never ONCE spoken on screen. Also: We legit thought a full body strike from a lightsaber must disintegrate you. Kenobi was the only person to take a full body shot.

Interestingly, when the Thrawn Trilogy came out, the Author Timothy Zhan wanted to name the Noghri - the Alien Assassins fanatically loyal to Vader - Sith precisely to answer why Vader was called a 'Lord of the Sith'. But Lucas shot that idea down. Zhan said a while ago that, in hindsight, he's glad Lucas did that, even though he was disappointed at the time.

This was one of your funniest reviews in a while. I laughed my ass off at the "Disney+ series" gag. Also, in retrospect, why DIDN'T Vader sense Han sneaking up on him in the Falcon? Was ghost Obi-Wan doing that too? Because that would actually make a lot of sense, and lend credence to him becoming more powerful in death.

He was laser-focused on taking down Luke, to the point of tunnel vision. Remember, he said that he sensed that the Force was strong in him. He wanted to take him down at all cost, was just about to finish him off and neglected to 'listen' to his surroundings since he was so caught up in the hunt. That lines up with what happens later, too. Vader was absolutely obsessed with hunting down Luke after the Battle of Yavin, even before he learned that Luke was his son, to the point where he chased after him even when it meant giving up chances to seriously harm or even destroy the Rebellion.

Fun fact about the comic calling Darth Vader the "Dark Lord of the Sith" even though the term is never spoken in the trilogy. As we saw from looking at The Star Wars, there were a ton of rewrites about what a Sith is. In official statements, Darth Vader was referred to as a Sith Lord, but there was next to nothing about what that meant. Similar deal, it was explained in supplemental materials what the name of Luke's father was (we even saw some pre-Empire Strikes Back comics featuring flashbacks with him and Darth Vader depicted as two different people). Since the term Sith didn't get much use before the prequels, evil users of the Force were frequently called "Dark Jedi," including Vader and the Emperor.

I'd like to address this issue of Luke's burial, specifically the charge that it seems disrespectful or ruins the moment/message/whatever you call it. It is clear in A New Hope that Luke hates his life on Tatooine. But it isn't that straightforward. We must ask why he hates his life there to assess whether burial there would ruin it. We know that Owen is keeping him from the Academy, partly because he needs help on the farm, but also to shield him from the true identity of his father. It is really the restriction of Luke to a nowhere planet that Luke hates. Give him one or two semesters at the Academy, and his tune about Tatooine could change. I myself hated where I lived when I went to college, but once I had a couple years of schooling, I was ready to return "home." And yes, I stayed at my school over the summers and holidays. Luke's attitude also shifts a bit once he sees the massacre at the farm. He doesn't say "fine. I've had it with this place. I always wanted to be gone." It's simply "there's nothing left for me here. I want to follow the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father." These are not the words of a young man harboring animosity for a world or home. There was something about being kept on Tatooine that he disliked. This attitude continues in Return when he and Han are on the skiff. He says "there's nothing to see. I used to live here, you know." It's not "There's nothing to see. This place is just a sand dump. Totally worthless." Luke's attitude has grown a bit from the first time we see him. Simply put, there's nothing in his demeanor to suggest he has an absolute hatred of Tatooine anymore. The other issue is simple. Even if he did, would Rey have known that? Would it be reasonable for her to understand this? Would her action therefore be disrespectful? Maybe. Maybe not. I do believe that last scene of Rise is the most misunderstood scene in the entire sequels. And it is partly earned. There are themes at work that are supposed to be fulfilled there. It just isn't always clear. But to say Luke's burial on Tatooine is somehow disrespectful or harmful is much like the criticisms of Luke's behavior in Last Jedi. It really only works if you adhere to a certain belief about Luke, in this case, the idea that he hated Tatooine completely. It doesn't hold up too much when you step back and really look at the big picture.

On that note about Star Wars' need to just not let mistakes be mistakes? What's weird about that explanation you mentioned is that they actually had a much better one that was way simpler which was that R2s were so common in the galaxy that the term "R2 unit" just became a genericized term to refer to an astromech kind of like how we refer to any tissue as a kleenex or how we use the word "Google". It's simpler, works for the universe and also doesn't feel like the universe is just breaking its back trying to rectify a simple mistake.

I know why Jabba didn't look like a slug in this comic- no one really knew what he was supposed to look like when the movie was made. The scene where Han Solo talks to Jabba outside the Millennium Falcon originally had a tall chubby guy dressed in a barbarian getup act as Jabba. The actor was just a stand-in for what Lucas originally planned to replace with whatever design they were going to go with, and the comic artists, after being told that the barbarian guy was supposed to look more like an alien, took a creative liberty and made Jabba an alien Chester Arthur. The slug form as we know him was designed in preproduction of "Return of the Jedi," but by that point the Marvel comic was around for years so Alien Chester Arthur is the Legends Jabba.
