I love how intimidating Tie fighters seem in this show mostly due to the sound design i think. Makes you feel like you would actually crap yourself with fear if one flew over your head in real life, never felt like that about a Star Wars ship before.
@TemalCageman
@TemalCageman Жыл бұрын
Very true... what the tie fighter did in this episode is actually a real tactic used by fighterpilots to show who is in charge in war zones. The only difference is that they will fly at least 100 meters over the treetops and also at least at MACH 1 so if the people on the ground have weapons they will not be able to fire at them.

It actually feels like there's real stakes here and tension. Like something big is coming. The scene where they cut back to Luthen in his shop sitting by the radio and worrying about the team, this is such a simple scene on its face but bc of of the skilled hands of the filmmakers at the helm of this show and the great actors it just bleeds tension and so easily articulates to the viewer that something big is happening. there's no stupid jokes or quips or any of that bullshit. This series has been so refreshing and Ive been dying for this kind of filmmaking again.

No, because it actually gives context that matters and sets up tension for the end of the arc. The slow moments have a clear intent, it’s not like rings of power where characters sit around giving exposition for the sake of exposition or intended rousing speeches that don’t have any impact. I do think it should’ve released each arc at once like the premier though.

For all the praise this show is getting in the comments, it's not getting enough. This show CRUSHES Mandalorian. So much more compelling in every facet. The babysitting and fan service in Mandalorian got old quick. It's too simple and I didn't like half the characters. Very predictable, full of cliches and a lot of cheesy lines. Tried very hard to be a spaghetti western in space, too hard at times. Star Wars feels like an afterthought in Andor, like a backdrop. I forgot it was even in the universe until that Tie screamed over the trees, very effective. Best Star Wars content Disney has put out since, appropriately enough, Rogue One.

It's not done yet. But I feel like if it keeps up this tone and heart in the story it may be up there with other shows of similar pacing like first season of Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, and so on. This show to me is just as entertaining as House of Dragon. Both shows have little action although House of Dragon may be more enjoyable due to all the character drama. But this is a complete different story so it deserves a different approach. It's about people who's lives are being torn apart being thrust into an insurgency. I like how Andor would rather live a civilian life and isn't just motivated to become an insurgent. He kind of has no other option and I like that motivation. Also I did not expect political intrigue in this show in relation to the empire and the corruption happening within their system.

They said in the previous episode that The Eye was happening in three days and the Imperial base is hours of walking from their camp, and we get to see those days passing for them and pieces of the journey during the day before. Meanwhile in other side of the galaxy we have Luthen anxious, waiting for news, even though he knows the heist is yet to happen. Just amazing, leaves wanting for more. The problem with hollywood and prequals is that hollywood incorrectly corlilates "prequal" with "character back-story", which is not what you want to do as that spoils the ending. Prequals are supposed to get you interested in the characters you HAVEN'T seen before as to worry about their future as you don't know where their story is going. It adds intrigue with how these otherwise unheard of people help flesh-out the world while also leaving you curious as where their journey goes. It doesn't work with the original rogue-one because contribution the prequal adds is taken away as it kills off every character the movie introduces, meaning it adds nothing to the universe that we didn't already know. It worked with Anakin Skywalker cause we didn't know Anakin too well, we knew Darth Vader. We didn't know Obi-Wan either, we only got a hint of Ben Kenobi. We didn't know the clones, we only knew the storm troopers. Same with the battle droids. It gaves us all new characters that were interesting whose fates we both had an idea of but also were unsure of as they were kinda shrouded in mystery. You could argue Mandalorian is a sequel trilogy prequel but it actually works because they are original characters whose fates remain undetermined and who actually add to the world by branching off into a new corner of the world rather than linking preexisting parts of it and just filling gaps. With this, you already understand all the (main) characters so there's no point in the series. That's why you don't want prequels to be a backstory. You want them to be almost like spin-offs that still actually add something to the universe. That's where the stakes come from. Not from the parts that are already established but from the parts that aren't. Character back-stories alone don't give us the major "part's that aren't". I guess what I am saying is, regardless of execution quality, conceptually, I just want things that expand like a new branch on a tree rather than something that exists to bridge gaps.

It seems the show is focused on spending 2 episodes of build up and the 3rd to pay off and I'm fine with that. It's so well done and beautifully shot that I can't help but get excited. I will say that I find it rather strange that, in a Star Wars show, there weren't many aliens in it. But so far it has made the Empire seem so dangerous and insidious that the tension is so good.

Dude, this show is some top notch writing and acting. Its almost too good for star wars. It could be its own thing. Maybe they can do more star wars shows like this for adults?

That's why I think a lot of people say it doesn't "feel star wars", mainly because the dialogue is so natural that it feels different than most of the Disney schlock.

This is meant to be for teens to an extent not really for Adults it just feels more real life than Star Wars like despite the good writing etc I mean tbh I watched The Phantom Menace the other day and thats what I'd describe as more fantasy Star Wars like

It was a shame not to see the Heist but it was still a great episode. It was essentially making you understand all the side characters who would be in the heist their motives and backstory etc.

"the tree remembers" was basically one of the main themes of the show. I like how they contrasted Andor doing it for money with the other guy doing it for revenge for his brother, and implicitly asking whether revenge is much more noble of a cause.

Other Star Wars content have had very fast story progression. This episode in particular had a lot of CHARACTER progression instead, which I don't think Star Wars ever really does (and it's awesome). It is certainly the "slowest" episode of Andor so far, but I enjoyed it. I crave more of it every time an episode ends.

Loved this episode. Stakes r high and dialog feels natural. Character building and introductions r done very nicely. So far this is my fav SW show on Disney+. I don't need constant action and drama and shock factor. Just need sensible plot, good characters and good dialog and I'm Gucci...can't wait for the heist in the next episode

This is the first Disney produced live action Star Wars material worth really watching. I almost can't believe we're getting this level of writing in this universe, I'm so happy they spared no expenses on the show. I think the word of mouth is gonna go around, I've been telling people who have given up on the series how good it is. I think it's a smashing hit, after the movies and the lackluster tv shows we've been getting. This episode was 10/10 for me, bring me the drama, bring me the world building and each characters place in this universe. I haven't felt this invested since watching a New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

This is one of the best adult Star Wars shows/movies in my opinion. I think it specifically been written as a slower burning, higher stakes, tension filled drama. Rather than a shoot-em-up where 6 year old kid is coming to save the day. Honestly I feel like the original star wars trilogy were much more slow burn similar to Andor.

Okay... I see how this dynamic is playing out and I don't like it. Not everything has to be divisive. Just because I think the show is slow to getting to the point it doesn't mean that I need explosions in every single scene. We are now five episodes into this show which is five hours of build up. In five hours you can watch almost the entire LOTR extended cuts. The show is not a bad show, not by a long shot and I don't want anyone trying to "um actually" me. I just want to make people aware that just because we think it's boring does not mean we need constant movement and explosions. As of right now, the show is good, but it's a little boring.

This is what I really want starwars to be. More serious darker tones not campy child like shit. The TIE fighters never felt more intimidating they used to feel like flies to swat down. The writing. The world. The characters all feel real. I did watch all episodes in one sitting and it definitely played best that way.

15 minutes. That's how long it took to just watch those people stand around at the funeral before something actually happened. I literally timed that shit while being bored out of my mind. Andor is slow-ish, sure, but the dialogue is good. And I consider the building up to the actual heist necessary. Now, the stakes are higher because there's at least some attachment to the characters... we know Andor has plot armor, but the others may not.

But I miss hearing what the original hosts (AngryJoe and Other Joe) had to say about these movies, shows, games, etc. Without ultimately agreeing with almost everything that comes out of Alex's mouth. The dude seems to have some strong opinions for someone who seems to have no real-world writing credentials.
