Ohhhhh Sir YOU Said a MOUTH FULL! I TOO Grew up as a Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Comic Book Geek/Nerd. AND on TOP Of that I was and still AM a Musician too! Funny thing though... What USED to get me Bullied and Beat up when I was a kid... is NOW Considered "UBER-COOL" BECAUSE of TV shows like "Big Bang Theory" and Star Wars. ALOT More people have been exposed to it and It's crossed into other things. Even some of the big "JOCK" types NOW think that stuff is Cool! But yea... for Me too... this kind of stuff will ALWAYS Have a special place in my heart! And has INSPIRED Me to the point of DOING Costuming/Historical Clothing/Leather Working/Prop Making as a side business that I STILL Hope to eventually make into a FULL TIME Business! It's really awesome to MAKE something that is SPOT ON In detail and to have others come up to you and say, "WOW! THAT Looks JUST LIKE From the movies!" I've also gotten this when I worked at Ren Faires wearing my 16th Century Irish Clothing. And have History Professors come up and say, "WOW! THAT looks JUST Like the Painting!" So... I will keep on doing what I LOVE for as long as I can! :)

Star Wars shows us the power of story telling and how it can inspire us to do more than just use coding on a computer but that's why I watch Star Wars because it's just magical in a way we never saw story telling before it's truly wonderful

@Carter_Jpeg I concur with you on this. Sometimes practical effects, wouldn't be practical for things like: Huge scenes with hundreds of objects. (Like that scene with all of the first order troopers.) Things like that. But practical effects can be practical. Like why would you make actors/actresses CG when you can just use actual people. That prestige balance is needed to make a visually pleasing film.

Nice video, David. It popped up in my recommendations just now, and I was like, "Hey, I know that name!" We got to see several of these costumes and props in various locations. The first time was at the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC, in October of 1998. I saw a few pieces again, along with the occasional prequel additions, at Star Wars Celebration conventions in Indianapolis (2002 and 2005, maybe?) and then we got to see this same exhibit, Where Science Meets Imagination, very close to home when it came to the Space and Rocket Museum in Huntsville AL sometime after that, either 2007 or 2010? I know it was shortly after one of our trips to Disney World, which is why I peg it as one of those two years. But more likely 2010 since that was also when they moved Celebration to Orlando and had the 'Last Tour to Endor' special event at Disney's Hollywood Studios, right before they retired the original version of Star Tours. Very cool to see some of these displays again, your camera is thankfully much better than the one I had back then.

I echo your sentiments about film sincerely....CGI has become a crutch for so many asinine studios and poor filmmakers and it appeals to the lowest brow of our society. I prefer substance over flash, not to mention you can still have the flash with the substance done right. The ironic part to me is that if people were still perfecting stop motion with the cameras and electronics of today, it would be even MORE incredible. Realism and tangibility are paramount. I was very, very disappointed when I saw all the flying ships were CGI'd in the final battle of TFA. At least we saw a return to the practical sets...
@lordofthestings4 жыл бұрын
CGI is not more realistic. You KNOW it's not real, it doesn't look real. It has no substance. Look up how much worse CGI is now compared to how it started out. They are cheaping out on the CGI now. And if they were still making films with models and puppets it would be amazing by now. Films have changed. It's all about how many CGI explosions they can get into a 105 minutes.
