If you are talking about the prequel trilogy, Anakin the protagonist became Darth Vader at the end. He wasn't on the path of evil until he slaughtered those sand people, if I recall correctly. If you are talking about it in relation to the OG trilogy then the protagonist changes and becomes Luke.
