DISTINCTIVE STAR WARS FIGHTER: The ultimate space battle in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi featured several new and distinctive fighter designs. And none stood out more then the cross-like B-Wing design.
NO FORCE NEEDED: This model kit from MPC features snap assembly and is ideal for beginner modelers. It includes both a sticker sheet for young modelers and water-slide decals for experienced hobbyists.
THE OLD IS NEW AGAIN: This edition of the B-wing model kit features a design that is reminiscent of the packaging used by MPC when Star Wars model kits were first introduced.
QUICK SPECS: 1/64 scale. 7” tall. 23 parts. Injected in light gray plastic with clear parts. Glue and paint not required. Skill level 2
CLASSIC STAR WARS FIGHTER: One of the most recognizable fighters in the Star Wars pantheon is the X-wing piloted by the original film’s hero, Luke Skywalker. He is at the helm of this model with R2-D2 filling in as co-pilot.
NO FORCE NEEDED: This model kit from MPC features snap assembly and is ideal for beginner modelers. It includes both a sticker sheet for young modelers and water-slide decals for experienced hobbyists.
RETURNING TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN: This model kit is the first to return from the original Star Wars model kit brand, MPC. Vintage graphics are used on the packaging to bring back these kits like they are so fondly remembered.
QUICK SPECS: 1/64 scale. 8” long. 30 parts. Injected in white plastic with clear parts. Glue and paint not required. Skill level 2
The X-wing starfighter is a name applied to a family of fictional spacecraft manufactured by the Incom Corporation from the Star Wars franchise. Named for the distinctive shape made when its s-foils (wings) are in attack position, the X-wing was a class of starfighter used by the Rebel Alliance in their conflict with the Galactic Empire. It made its theatrical debut, as the T-65B model, in Star Wars (1977) as the spacecraft piloted by Luke Skywalker and the Red Squadron when Luke destroyed the Death Star. The starfighter featured extensively in the Star Wars original trilogy and in the Expanded Universe that followed, and has been merchandised as a variety of toys and models.
Starting with The Force Awakens (2015) a new model of X-wing was introduced which has gone on to play a prominent role in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The T-70 X-wing, flown by the Resistance in their fight against the First Order, is depicted as the successor to the T-65. Although described as being an improvement over the original, in the expanded literature this new X-wing is itself considered outdated, having been replaced by the T-85 X-wing in the New Republic's fleet. The T-85 X-wing made its first appearance in the TV series Star Wars Resistance.
The A/SF-01 B-wing starfighter is a fictional Rebel Alliance and New Republic starfighter. They first appear in Return of the Jedi (1983) and subsequently in the Star Wars expanded universe's books, comics, and games.
The B-wing's canonical origin (as the Blade Wing), as-designed by the Mon Calamari engineer Quarrie,[12] is depicted in the Star Wars Rebels second season episode "Wings of the Master" (in the previous Legends continuity, Admiral Ackbar helped design the B-wing[13]). Quarrie designed the Blade Wing to be a blockade buster for the Rebel Alliance, combining aspects of previous ships built by the Verpine Slayne & Korpil corporation including the V-19 Torrent starfighter, H-60 Tempest bomber and T-6 shuttle. While Quarrie's Blade Wing helped the crew of the Ghost escape an Imperial blockade, the prototype was plagued with a number of technical challenges. Senator Bail Organa was responsible for convincing Slayne & Korpil to work with Quarrie to fix these issues and create a production model, the A/SF-01, for the Rebel Alliance.[10]
The A/SF-01 was the most well-armed starfighter in the galaxy at the time it was introduced; a single B-wing was capable of attacking and destroying enemy capital ships. However it was also slower and less maneuverable than any other Rebel starfighter.

Lee Press - On Engines! From the makers of Lee Press-On Nails. Luke - shooting down the neighbours' hog!! Wait - that was a different show. 🤔 I've always loved the B-Wing Fighter. I would love to have one in studio scale. I hated the inaccuracy of the original MPC models so I made mo own with ILM pictures. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for Star Wars with us.

Package opening. Planning the build. Prepping the parts. Painting as required. Putting it all together. Then weathering. That is the formula for a solid model kit build. But without a proper builder, it will never look as detailed and realistic as the works of Chris's hpiguys Workshop. Thanks again for doing all this, Chris.

I read the entire interview you had with an online hobby site. It was cool to read about how you got started and where you think the hobby is heading. I never knew there was a bigger demand for military models than cars. Keep up the good work on the videos!

What’s that website for the interview? Finding military is a greater demand is new to me, too. But, an adult can work on real cars whereas even getting access, let alone working on a military vehicle is a very small chance, so, do models seems logical.

The gray wash was a good call. Too often black wash on white comes off as stark and just looks wrong. I prefer the older glue-together X-Wing with the separate pilot figure- more room for lighting etc. but both kits came out great.

I have two examples of the original MPC X-Wing release from the 1980's (same molds as the one shown here, but without the improvements). The build went together well until I tried to put the wings in the 'open' position in the final steps. I glued them in place but they would not stay open on their own; I had to insert small styrene pieces to help *_prop_* the wings open at the correct angles. Even with the wings propped open, they still would not sit straight, which meant the port side top engine ended up being crooked / not parallel with the starboard side engine. I tried to manipulate it with my hands but it didn't do any good. The cockpit glass didn't fit, either, even after a lot of sanding. Overall, I think these old kits do have their charms, but these cheaper MPC's are the ones I'd give to a nephew or something (I'm sure the Bandai version is MUCH better). I'll do the 2nd example with the wings closed to see if that results in a better fit. *FUN FACT:* _The B-Wing fighter got limited screen time in _*_Return of the Jedi_*_ because the slim profile made it difficult to shoot against the green screen._

Yup. They simply do not pay attention. One guy on here literally said these are 'new' kits and he's so disappointed because they look like 40 year old model molds. LOL Thanks!

I had these models as a kid in the 90s and still do. Although they are very worn from playing with them. However, i think the X-wing was more detailed than this one and had a separate pilot from the model like the B-wing. Also the reflectors on the lasers are in the wrong angle on this model. They are supposed to be vertical, not horizontal. And yes, 44:28 weathering can vary... a bit, but not the distinguished features and absolutely not the markings which is unique.

The x-wing looks like the glue together kit that originally came out in the 70s. It looks like they have turned that model into this snap kit. The luke pilot figure is very distinctive and nothing like luke or an x-wing pilot😂 Nevertheless it's great to see these childhood memory kits back. Oh, and a great build as always buddy. The small mpc x wing had 3 main problems. The thick landing gear. The molded pilot with the bike helmet. And the wing molded base of the cannons. Plus the C shaped wing tips should be vertical. Not horizontal with the ship. The b- wing is actually ok. Just to small.

I had built the Larger version years ago and it looks like they’ve never improved the Luke skywalker figure. It still appears it was a fighter pilot from another kit. I loved weathering that model and adding burn spots on the fuselage.

Among other things, it was the old days of models all done by hand from photos and reference drawing, no 3D files, hard to carve things backwards in a mold, mistakes get made and molding tools are so insane expensive it's too late to go back and fix once that far.
