Exactly! To all comments here, it's all about diversity and how it makes everyone strong. There was a whole song about not being flawless! @@bethanysingsmrs849 Character design is made to convey to the audience who a character is while looking 'good'. Crystalis from MLP generation 4 is a good example of a character design done well. She looks evil with holes all over her body, and it's amplified by her color pallete, but Crystalis is not an obnoxious color like the magenta like Opaline. Stories should have good character design or else it naturally draws attention away from the plot.

U are right about the lack of lore especially on opaline, I mean how in the hell is she an allicorn?!?!!! Y’all remember that we had better explanations on how allicorns are born or made, twilight became an allicorn because she was destined to become one and flurry heart was born an allicorn. So did opaline get her hoofs on allicorn magic like how cozy glow did? That could honestly be a better explanation, basically I believe that opaline got allicorn magic in the same way that cozy glow did, maybe, but still the story writers are doing a damn bad job at giving backgrounds compared to g4 which there was better background given to villains like tirek’s past and sombra’s past

sunny is the most boring character ever. she has no personality AT ALL judging by the movie, she seems to be the main character, so shes like twillight but g5 so anyways, compared to twillight, sunny is a joke twillight actually has personality. she has a deep backstory with magic, celestia, how shes an overachiever n all that stuff, how she got spike (then theres sparky, randomly spawned outta nowhere on the beach) and then her s1 her, introverted, no friends, studies all day, then celestia wants her to make friends, shes skeptical, makes friends,.. so, then theres sunny. backstory: dad made her lantern or something idk and she wants unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies to live in peace. no one listens to her blablabla, she brings lizzy to her, then also finds the sisters (its been a while since i watched the movie i dont remember everything) they get the crystals, magic is bacc, she becomes alicorn woooo. i got extremely annoyed by her in the series and im actually glad she isnt that proactive and main character and stuff, cause shes written so badly and incredibly boring.i feel like she does nothing to the plot. theres this one episode she got for herself, it was the second one i think with the veggies and garden stuff. shes literally like oh my god, i want ponies to make this garden, thats like my biggest goal in life now, but wow, they only like me because im an alicorn, damn thats not right, now i will go and in the last episode, she was the big hero being like guyssss this isnt right!!11! we have to work togetherrrr :DDD and wowoies they magically find sparky so, overall, i agree with you, its disappointing what they did with sunny. she deserves more than this, i want more backstory, more lore, i want her to get some personality and not be stereotypical nice girl (just like hitch is literally some stereotypical nice guy?? if youre gonna make a male character one of the main characters, atleast make him a little interesting and likable) and also be more like a protagonist

I agree. But how they overall wrote Gen 5 is just garbage. I definitely prefer Gen 4 compared to this. I love how they made the animation 3D because it makes the ponies look cuter but that’s it. I believe (as I’ve heard rumors) why they made it so terribly written is because they are targeting their audience towards kids. And they think that since it’s kids they’re targeting it to(im guessing 5-10?) they think that kids won’t care about plot. So they’re basically turning it into a mindless zombie cartoon slowly.

@@blurred_outx To me Sunny had the potential to be one of the best characters in all of MLP. But they focused too much on making her "relatable" and sad. The parts of Sunny was when she was cheerful and hopeful. I always liked to see her as the Element of Hope before watching A New Generation . To me Sunny has the potential to be very complex. Someone who can be extremely loving while also being extremely flawed maybe even dangerous. At her best she should be the type who makes her friends believe in greater things just like Superman makes one believe they can fly. And one who inspires others to be better versions of themselves. The one inspire a cynic like Hitch to believe in something better or to encourage Izzy to follow her dreams or even make Zipp and Pipp have to be a family again. And her negative sides would be that she is too much about results without thinking ahead. She can get herself in danger and tends to not think of the consequences. This is why she needs Hitch to keep her in check. Sunny could even be a little dictatorial in getting others to do something if desperate but in the end she makes the right choice. My point is that Sunny should have been made to be a larger than life heroine who inspires. That's not what I see in Tell Your Tale. She always whines and mopes around instead of doing stuff. Maybe the writers want her to be relatable perhaps like Twilight but I think they could have been unique. I would prefer it if Izzy was sad and Sunny cheered her up. They could have been Sunny not Zipp or Pipp the best character of G5. I don't her to be an average nice girl I she could be so much more.

@@starryfall- Gen 4 was also targeted towards kids. It was a happy accident that bronies emerged from it. You don't have to dumb down things to market towards kids. You can make a smart kid's show. Gen 4 did this and there are other shows that have been really popular for both kids and adults. This was marketed towards kids in that they want as much content out as quickly as possible so they can sell toys and try to capitalize on those who loved gen 4. All they made was a hot mess.

Cozy did the same thing and Celestia and Luna stayed with their Alicorn forms.

I dont follow this show as well as I used to with my little nephews, but I do remember the final 2D ending and Twilight's TALL alicorn form. So like you, her being short and unevolved confused me. I dont feel the loss of magic would shrink her, as we never see that happen in other evolved alicorns when they get their magic stolen. Cadance for example never changes, even when void of power. It just seems SO lazy of the creators to botch up the timeline by using the wrong model. If they're going to harp back to FiM lore, they need to get the basics right! How cool would it have been to see a tall, imposing Twilight, warning them to dismantle the crystals! It always feels that writers brag how epic and attentive they are to a clever plot. But then they make so many bumbling errors right in episode one

They made G5 for the bronies and pegasisters. They made mlp friendship is magic for children. That's how I feel... But they should have ended it with season 9. Now there is a mess and a waste of thousands of years of progress down the drain to start over.

Here's an idea I'd like to see and I wanted your opinion on it. What if Misty figures out on her own how cutie marks work and we probably see a bit of a mental breakdown from her when she realizes that Opaline has been lying and using her this entire time? Though instead of confronting her about it, she tells the Mane 5 about everything and first begs for forgiveness/does something to prove her loyalty to them. They wouldn't do this but I like to envision Misty learning about how cutie marks really work and how her whole life with Opalline was a lie may get her upset enough that she THROWS the make up kit/amulet she has in connection to Opaline into the Maretime Bay harbor? Either that or give it to Sunny if they notice there's more to the amulet/make up kit than just Opaline's personal surveillance. Idk. There's clearly going to be a "liar revealed" moment in this and I figured this would be a nice way to mix up the cliche a bit.

I can confirm they did not have a plan on how to tie G5 to FIM. The director of A New Generation stated in an interview that they didn't come up with a fate for the mane 6, nor did they come up with how the three pony kinds originally split.

They better come up with an answer soon (or else).

I think the explanation you gave for Misty would work great! Definitely better than what I came up with. It would have also shown a bit of character development there. But sadly, they didn't do anything to suggest that. Great idea though! I love it!

I don't mind Sunny aiming a little lower in terms of wildest dreams. I just want something a little deeper than wanting a garden because she randomly decided that day everypony was too unhealthy. Misty wasn't trying to steal the crystals, she was trying to steal the lantern. She didn't even know they were up there. It wouldn't be too hard to write a story where with each episode or two the characters start learning more about Opaline. They could start investigating the strange ghost mouse that appeared at one point, Pipp could mention to Sunny she didn't give her the mirror and so they start investigating it. Especially since Sunny's "Inner voice" has appeared in it. Zipp did take a note of Pipp forgetting about buying it after all, so it could easily come up in conversation. The writers could also introduce new clues into the show. Just something to help move the plot forward.

(also her character design is painful she looks so agressivly bad). the mane 5 also need to like progress the plot too its almost like they are all passive protagonists in a passive world they are just going about their day things happen and nothing changes cause they are so off the 8ball that Misty literally needs to caugh in the right direction and Opaline wins. like why not make a cult about Opaline? she is an alicorn in a no magic/newly gained magic world whos only other alicorn refrence is Twighlight herself, how in the world is she not using that to her advantage literally noone knows about her existance as an antagonist to twilight??? like sure she could be all bark no bite when it starts cause she has no magic herself so her followers are more a group of people who look up to her but she could slowly gain magic via the people who worship her eventually making it so she does have a bite to keep her followers in check and she becomes a force to be reconed with. still wouldnt have introduced her this early either way. this show i find has the braincell hotpotato issue that alot of kids shows have and they have no idea how the magic system of g4 works, i dont remeber how many shows are sloted to be in this season but if they are going this slow with the pacing we are going to be in for some plot whiplash down the line. it honestly doesnt even seem like they plan to make Opaline and the mane 5 even meet eachother this season thats how slow it feels. also i feel like Misty is a rehash of Tempest from the movie but will less personal autonomy im gonna bet Misty is gonna stick it out to the end with Opaline and Opaline is gonna almost overpower the mane 5 and then misty asks for her own cutie mark and Opaline is like nah and then Misty betrays her ultimatly saving the mane 5 and then gaining her cutie mark in the process and it turns out its some sort of really on the nose cutie mark about friendship or trust or something

@@Gnarrkhaz Seeing as self-propelled vehicles with internal combustion engines exist in G5, it's not outside the bounds of reason that Misty used an offscreen vehicle to complete the journey.

G4 will absolutely go down as lightning in a bottle. We all know they kept FiM going for as long as it did because it was a cash cow. Luckily, the show staff understood that making a show with intriguing characters, proper worldbuilding/lore that could be expanded upon at will and having entertaining episodes that didn't talk down to children was the way to go. I can't fault them for trying to connect g5 to g4 because of course they'll do anything they can to try and get money out of people. Unfortunately, this show staff doesn't seem to put the same care into these episodes that the g4 staff did. It could very well be Hasbro's doing but we'll probably never know. I had hope for g5 after the movie as even though it wasn't great, I enjoyed the connections to g4 and thought they did a good job introducing the new characters, locations and lore. The show however, has been just plain bad and with each episode I lose hope.

Do remember that in Ending of the End all it took was a few rumours to make the three tribes turn on each other. It turns out ponies are monumentally dumb.

No offense but, Im pretty sure a unicorn injuring an earth Pony is more of a folk story then on what actually Ly happened. They were only telling stories, so theres a chance some of the words said never happened in the past but was more of a popular option. Moreover, If a unicorn DID hit an earth Pony there has to be atleast another part of the story between it. In the ending of the end on MLP s9, literally the only way the three Pony tribes were split UP was because Chrysalis, in her camera form, spread a rumour to a “unicorn” That was then spread all over canterlot, Pony Ville, and flippin Cloudsdale. However, That one was more of an obvious reason to make the windigos UP and running again, since a rumour can spread anywhere and hurt others feelings easily.

I think he ment 2 differen stories as in, two lights version (an alicorn tried to steel all the magic) and Sunnys (an eartpony was jurt by a pegasus). He didn't mention Misty's version. I also don't know if kids will I understand the community crevice thing, I certainly wouldn't have when I was a kid (I didn't even know what it was when I was in the target group for the show). I would most likely have thought he was working in that same factory and wondered why he wasn't in the show. They could have mentioned it in the show. But also, I have seen So many people talking about how there are so many different versions of what happened to the crystals, including Misty's. I mean, its pretty obvious that version is from a completely differen point of view, and mabey/probably not even true, right?

Well, Misty's version of the story is obviously biased, but Twilight's hologram corroborates part of it. Also, when did Sunny learn her version? In the movie she didn't know about the crystals, and at the end of chapter 1, one of the questions they ask is "who made the crystals anyway?", so who told her that story? Discord?

When you are negative you don't bother to see the explication and reason of things... I have been following my little pony from G2 and G5 is great. It reflects the new generation of young people really well. There is more to it then the surface then the hater see. I am with you there is easy explication that people don't want to see.

I'm getting the feeling that Twilight used all her magic to drain Opaline of her powers, and in doing so Twilight sealed herself inside of the crystals. It would make sense that without Twilight to lead, her intentions for the crystals would be ignored.

I agree with the part that the G4 connection is what drags G5 down. However, even if we know well that Twilight could make rash decisions when in panic, I simply cannot imagine that she wouldn't have at least consulted with Celestia and Luna before basically axing magic in Equestria.

IF you paid attention in G4 then you would know that the weather naturally works on its own regardless. The Everfree forest works that way. the ponies are just so used to pegasus managed weather that natural anything makes them nervous.

I'm not sure who their target audience is. On the one hand, they are clearly targeting kids with the types of stories they are telling, but on the other hand they keep pandering to old fans. Also if Sunny secretly wanted to be evil, I would be all for that because maybe we could get some serious character depth and growth from her that way. XD

G5 rebrand reminds of the new G3 Monster High rebrand. They have similar bright coloring and general attitude. I feel like both generations are aiming towards an even younger audience. I've seen people that once they watched MLP: MYM, they got recommended Coco Melon. The hints of lore are definitely for the older fans who loved G4. Even though the Monster High G3 series hasn't come out yet, I can tell it's aiming towards a younger audience

The sad thing is that A New Generation was actually GOOD. I was apprehensive when I saw the 3D models (and their teeth still bother me), but I watched with an open mind. My friends and I thought the movie was really good and I was actually looking forward to the show. It all went downhill from there. Tell Your Tale is better than Pony Life (despite being 1/2 the runtime), but nothing really happens. MYM is just moving too slowly. It feels like they change the personalities for the Mane 5 from the movie (Hitch is dumb, Izzy is insane, I forget Sunny exists, Pipp only cares about selfies.) The "Pippsqueaks" (new CMC) are just as annoying as Star Strike stated and the baby dragon IS worse. Misty is cute and, as a persona with textured hair, I love her design. Not a fan of her voice. Opaline is Mother Gothel from Rapunzel, except EXTREMELY unlikeable. I also hate the "bad guy hatched plan, henchpony screws up plan, bad guy yell at henchpony and vows revenge, muhahaha", rinse and repeat for every episode. TLDR: You aren't missing much. 😕

I Absolutely agree! I'm so sick of everyone talking negative about g5, just because it isn't g4 lol. I'm enjoying g5 I think its pretty good so far, and I mean sure there are problems with it but like you said g4 had problems too.I mean I understand that bronies would want to criticize it so it can be better but I agree that they are going way to harsh on it, like I understand that they like g4 and would want its sequel to be good as mlp fim but come on... only talking about the negative stuff instead of both positive and negative stuff... like bruh.Most bronies(not all bronies) are acting way to salty about it like I get that g5 isn't like g4, but taking it apart just because of one small mistake, like this is literally the second chapter and instead of being positive and pointing out the negative stuff while also pointing out the positives they just treat it like trash just because of one mistake they made even though g4 made lots of mistakes and everyone seemed to be ok with it. I mean heck bronies treated g3 like it was trash and made fun of it and I'm a brony myself and I actually liked g3, well just g3 not newborn cuties

I agree and it’s not like even the earlier seasons of G4 had perfect, amazing episodes. The 3rd episode of FiM was about Twilight not knowing who to give the Gala ticket to, only for Celestia to say that all her friends get one. Obviously G5 isn’t perfect, but I have still enjoyed it.

This show is literally the sequel to a VERY successful generation. They didn't start blind. They don't have to rehash gen 4 (and shouldn't) but things shouldn't be this bad. The movie was actually great, so that is another reason why so many are venting right now. They clearly had the means to make a good show. They have just chosen to go the lazier, sell-as-much-merchandise-as-possible route instead.

Oh no,no,no,no,no not the "it's made for kids excuse". That argument grinds my gears. And some positive things were pointed out aswell,like Pip being a caring sister .. The cool detective headgear and the interactions Misty has with the Main 5. And it doesn't need to be perfect,just decent or sensical. Many points in the video stated some scenes lacked logic.

They did kind of botch the design ngl There are times where she just looks off in general, I know it’s not 2D but it’s like…. This is what we got? Maybe future appearances will be better…. We can only hope
