I feel even at the pro level there must be such a psychological hit when you know you're going up against Serral. I'm sure the players still give it their best as much as they can but it's probably very tempting to GG early or try some desperation tactics like playing super greedy or cheesing early. I know the joke is that the best strategy for Terran and Protoss pros against Serral is to just learn Zerg but it wouldn't surprise me if some players seriously considered it.

@@paittiUnless Serral has also ambitions to secure post-SC2 -career, where being an officer or reserve-officer still helps a lot (especially on the more "manly" private commerce-corporations)

But sure, if doing your service is something you value, go a head but dont waste 6 months to a year just because "it will help your career". Still the point i was trying to make was that the finnish military service as much of a hindrance for you SC career as, say the Korean one is.

Realistically i think it's a tempting thing to think "i can save all this resource if I just play a little better..."

@@RobinTheBotas a watcher it might also be a case of hindsight, saying "ha, if you had a raven you'd have seen XYZ", because in that mind you always have the raven at the right spot. in reality you probably need to put it in the back half so it's not getting destroyed too easily and then the detection doesnt really benefit you all that much, bc you need it at the front most of the time.. it's probably a more delicate thing that we as watchers think

It's interesting you pointed out the 1080p from Lowko is clearer than the "raw" (shown in direct/from the source). First thought would be that there was packet loss during your watch, thus despite you set to 1080p, you don't have them. But if Lowko is actually doing something to the data, that's praise worthy. In any case, having a good commentator (and 4k quality) is obviously very helpful to appreciate the match. I know I have trouble with direct casts too because I'm too used to Lowko.

I think homestory main event has twice to beat finals. I recall Serral getting kicked to the lower bracket and had to defeat Clem in the finals, first with a best of five then with a best of 3. That was the tournament Serral went beast mode when he got kicked to the Lower Bracket.

I couldn't explain it more complicated ^^ but that's usually how it works: If you come from the lower bracket you have to win twice against the opponent form the upper bracket. If you come from the upper bracket you basically have an advantage of one series, not just one game in a series.

I think this is similar to how they did it in HomeStory Cup last year, and I really like this format. In HSC it was a bo5 + bo3 if the loser's bracket player won the first series, but even a bo7 + bo3 wouldn't be terrible IMO.

I just ended the video watching (yeah I take my sweet time, but that's how you are supposed to enjoy candies and delicacies). From what i read in comments, they don't want the raven to be attacked with neural parasite an shot an anti-armor missile on their own troops. Funny, since they raven is a drone... Anyway, maybe the reason is far more mundane, like not being cost effective. Does their disrupt ability even work against zerg?

I think it's just that most late game zerg compositions are really good at sniping them or getting out of the way in time (watch some of these replays paying specific attention to Serral's burrowed infestors and lings). In addition they're not easy to micro (it might not happen often at this level but consider how often people get their warp prisms sniped). Something else which may not come up often but definitely has come up is that ravens are a really good infestor target if there's no battlecruisers or thors. We've seen Serral neural parasite them and use the Dorito missiles on the Terran army to soften them up for the hit (presumably this has the added benefit of removing the Terran detection and giving the zerg extra detection if there's ghosts.) Failing that a good viper connection basically resets you to your previous position.

@@polca4love Well, since one single scan for creep costs 200 minerals, I'd say Ravens pay extremly fast for themselves. It's funny - a lot of Zerg say that the Raven is such a great unit, yet no Terran really uses it in TvZ. My guess is that the scan is so heavily memorized, that it is difficult to get rid of this ability. -> Harstem made Clem build Ravens early game in one series. And Clem frequently scanned to kill some creep, despite his army already having vision because of the raven. Muscle memory can be a curse too. My prediction: In 1-2 years we will see way more use of the (now way cheaper!) Raven in TvZ and it will be used regularly to get rid of creep early/midgame without wasting 200 minerals on each scan. Remember: 2 Scan are the price of a CC!

@@85UKDan +3 hellbats with blue flame one-shot lings! However, if you play mines instead of tanks you probably won't have vehicle upgrades. I know it is insane to say, but IMO Terran has quite a lot of untapped potential. The Raven is IMO extremly underused, the Hellbat could be a great addition too. I am sure we will get a meta where Ravens are used regularly, and everybody will be like: How the fuck did Terrans play without Ravens in TvZ back in the days???

@@wedgeantilles8575 Hellbats no longer one shot uninjured lings. They also have the problem of being useless against everything that is not a zerling or drone. Starcraft are among the few RTS in which flame weapons are not efective against buildings, it seems. The problem with the ravens seem to be along the way pros play. Things like the all army hotkey or using one big group for everything put spellcasters in bad positions. It's funny that Blizzard decided to give the templars some water ballons for this but not the rest. And as someone pointed up here, vipers make ravens resource drains.

Clem serral and reynor are my favorite. They are just so fun to watch. Maxpax is getting there quickly though.

I always thought it was weird that someone could be eliminated from a double-elimination bracket after losing only one series if that series happens to be the Final. Definitely prefer the way a lot of fighting games handle it where the upper-bracket winner has to lose two series to the lower-bracket winner back-to-back for the guy from the lower bracket to win the tournament.

@@oepalu The problem is time. A round in fighting games is a few minutes max. With SC2, a back-to-back bo5 might be possible, but it might become a 5 hour slugfest and a single bo7 is more exciting as a viewer imo. There was exactly one DotA tournament where the finals were bo7 and the whole thing lasted 10 hours, because after 3 hour+ long games they had to do a lunch break.

@@oepalu Homestory main event has a double elimination finals. Last year Serral clawed back up from the lower bracket to beat Clem in a best of five and then in a best of three. That's probably a better format, but the organizers will have a hard time predicting time of the event with that.

@@pocpic I understand that, but I honestly believe if you can't do double-elimination all the way to the end, you shouldn't do double-elimination at all. Alternatively, you can have multiple double-elimination brackets, with the winners facing off in a single-elimination tournament. That way you can have your extra series on a separate day and still announce the final day of the tournament in advance.
