DF, Nice video, BUT, there's a catch... Those plants you featured are the ones that give the most profit PER PLANT, you don't take into consideration your budget. If you meassure the earnings to investment ratio (amount of money earned / amount of money spent) things change wildly, this means, with the same amount of money to spend, the ones with the highest ratio are the ones that will give you the most amount of money, I take into consideration all the crops you get are base quality. This means, if you want to spend a fixed amount of gold, those crops are not exactly the ones you want For spring, Strawberries are indeed the most profitable with a ratio of 6, this means for every gold spent, you earn 6 gold back, followed WAY behind by Green Beans at 4, the KAles you illustrated have a ratio of 1.6, which is really poor. However, this is considering you can grow Strawberries since the beginning fo the season (through saving from one year to the next), otherwise, since you can only get 2 harvest of Strawberries on Year 1, their ratio is just 2.4, slightly above cauliflower and parsnip, both at 2.2. Summer, Hot Peppers, they are actually the crop that will give you the more money for your budget, they have a profit to investment ratio of 8, while Blueberries have a ratio of 7.5, which is still incredibly high, followed by Hops with 7.1. Interestingly enough, Starfruits, have a ratio of 1.9, which is again really bad. For Fall, things get wild, Cranberries are average with a ratio of just 3.1, while Rare seeds have a ratio of 3... Ready? At number 5, are pumpkin seeds with a ratio of 3.2, then at number 4, Beets from the dessert with a solid ratio of 5, followed at number 3 with the year 2 onwards seeds of Artichoke with a value of 5.3, then our number 2 are the always trusty Grapes with an amazing ratio of 8!!! that's incredible, the same as our star from Summer the Hot Peppers... Now, you may be asking yourself... what could be even more profitable that would have a ratio bigger than 8?!?! Well, the winner for the most profitable seeds in the entire game, when you consider Budget as a critical component is.............. Eggplants!!! Yes! Those shitty crops nobody cares about that cost 20 gold a pack, have an AMAZING ratio of 15!!!! These little stars, each one sells for 60gold, and you can get 5 harvest per season, that means you earn 300 gold for each one of them. By Fall you probably have a big amount of cash banked like you illustrated on your video, so Eggplants are probably not what you want to do, since you would have to literally cover your entire farm with Eggplants and sprinklers. So you probably want to go with Grapes, even though they are a bit harder to manage, or even Pumpkins are better than Cranberries but just slightly so. That's my contribution, feel free to use this info however you feel like DF, if you have any questions I have a lot of info on my private spreadsheet I use to plan crops, for example, did you know using Speedgrow is the best way to increase your money? but not on every crop? some crops are just better to keep them without any type of fertilizer. In fact, a lot of crops you end up LOSING money if you use fertilizers. Have fun DF, keep up your videos, they are amazing.

yes, they are still a pretty average crop
@jacobpruett92047 жыл бұрын
I think he checked the wiki for profit/day/plant and kale shows higher than potatoes but doesn't take into account the multiple harvest which makes potatoes better. still the average is only about 1g per plant higher so it's not a huge bonus.

Really nice vid. One suggestion for improvement though. In spring plant potatoes instead of Kale. I tested it and did the maths that I won't go in essence you get 26 plants that will sell for roughly the same as kale but about 1 in 4 gives an extra potato which stacks up. You made 1980g with your kale, 2150ish if that one you lost was a gold quality. with 26 potato plants I made 2950g which is about 10 extra strawberry plants. Food for thought, really love your series though, keep it up!

As I'm sure you are aware, the crops to plant aren't quite as simple as you've stated. On day 1 if you collect forage items to sell to Pierre (say 500g) you can get 50 +15 Parsnips you have + say 8 Mixed seeds. That many parsnips that early would cripple your energy and you may be better off getting some more energy efficient crops like kale or potato. Blueberries are the best crop to sell in summer if you don't have kegs. If you do have kegs then wheat, hops and melons all overtake blueberries for profit.

I also have some tips. Spend all your money on seeds at the beginning of the season. At the end of the season save up a lot so you can get lots of seeds. If you need money while you’re waiting for your crops to go and you don’t want to go mining, I suggest foraging. When in the mines, bring food, I learned this the hard way by losing like 50g when I passed out. You can fight with your scythe, it is not as strong as a sword but in desperate times it works. In spring, go to the mountains to find the most leeks. Pet your animals. Stock up on field snacks, they don’t give THAT much energy but are easy to make. That’s all! I just started playing Stardew Valley so you guys probably knew this but I will try to help the best I can.

It's amazing what a little foraging on the side can do for increasing profits. I'm in the process of following this video (though I used potatoes instead of kale) and am using foraging to help get a bit extra money for things like upgrades, and I ended up being able to get 63 strawberry seeds on the first Egg Festival. (I also planted a 137 parsnips on the 23rd of Spring. I now know it's too difficult to plant more than 150 crops without any upgrades or sprinklers.) I ended Spring with about 25k gold and still was able to save 5 strawberries for when I get Seed Makers before next Spring. :D TL:DR = Thanks for the guide, DF. I'm using it to great effect.

This while to me is a decent amount to be ending the first year with as it allows you to have a decent amount to start the 2nd year with. However with a tiny bit more effort you can upgrade your watering can by the end of summer allowing you to gain even more money during fall. This is due to the fact 2nd stage watering can use uses 4 energy instead of 6 to water 3 crops. So it is 33% more effective.

7:32 - Actually, you can get away with about 135 crops with a full energy bar. You start at 270 energy, and watering costs 2 energy each time (270/2=135), with a random chance of it only costing 1, which would allow more. You can also water a few more times after you become sluggish (after your energy hits 0) so that allows more as well. Anyways, this video helped me a lot. I started a new farm just so I could use this tactic and have been doing way better than my first farm (where I was in fall and only had about 2k gold). Thanks a ton! Subscribed.

Here's a thing to note. If you plant Cauliflowers, Bean Starters and Potatoes all on the very first day, and have a little RNG luck with them not getting ruinated by Crows, you can have the Spring Harvest Bundle ready to turn in by the Egg Festival. Buy 20 Strawberry seeds, finish the festival and rush over to the community center to turn in the four crops and you'll get a nice 20 Speed-Gro. Then you put the speed-gro in some soil you already tilled and watered that morning followed by the seeds and you can have three full harvests of strawberries instead of just the two. That's an additional 2400 gil, minimum! Speed-gro doesn't affect time between harvests for multi-harvest crops, but they do affect the time it takes multi-harvest crops to reach the first harvesting stage. In fact, you can do this with nearly all multi harvest crops on day 1 of each season to squeeze in an additional full harvest.
@abiwatson1353 жыл бұрын
If you manage to plant a cauliflower and potato and bean on spring 1 you can finish the spring crops bundle and get 20 speed grow for the strawberries, which basically just adds another harvest to the strawberries, which is basically adding ten more strawberries. A free thousand worth in seeds

I think things may have changed since this video, I know that in 1.5 if you crunch the numbers potatoes come out on top over strawberries mid spring year 1. In fact it's a good idea to switch to potatoes directly after your second parsnip harvest (which remains the best start) and if you happened to switch to potatoes after the first parsnip harvest you will not have lost much. Parsnips would theoretically outperform potatoes (and strawberries) if you could maintain a large enough field of them but early on your energy levels are a major limiting factor thus keeping your crop fields smaller. upgrading watering cans and hoes as well as making sprinklers and field snacks, and gathering spring onions is also a good way to increase your maximum field sizes which could change the above result. in year 1 strawberries would be the best crop option if you could plant them on the 12'th or earlier but unfortunately the 13'th is the earliest this can be done. During year 2 things change, with the additional capital you will have saved up strawberries do indeed come out on top even when being planted on the 13'th. if you have the money it's also not a bad idea to buy extra seeds for the next spring as well. oh and never buy fertilizer, that never pays off, I don't even recommend using bought fertilizer on ancient seeds or rare seeds except to maybe get a nice fruit to display for the fair grange display. however you definitely want to use your homemade fertilizer if you have the resources to make it and the time to apply it. in regards to the greenhouse all bets are off, you will want to fertilize the crap out of it, and of course ancient fruits dominate here.

So for anyone wanting a quick list 1. Buy more parsnips 2. Buy kale 3. Buy strawberries. 4. In summer buy blueberries 5. In fall buy cranberries (However many your willing to water) 6. No crops grow in winter
@clarkdimond78073 жыл бұрын
I know this video is very old but to any new players watching, instead of blueberries at summer, use melons, and pumpkins instead of cranberries at fall. This is because the artisan goods versions of the more expensive crops yield more profit. so if you invest some of you money in preserves jars which should only cost like 1k per jar, you will make well over 500 gold per jam or pickles created from the pumpkin or melons. this means that if you make melons and turn them into jam, it would be far more profitable then blueberries normally. the "math" formula for calculating the amount a jar of jam or pickles will be is 2x the base price of the vegetable or fruit+ 50g. this means per melon jam, you will gain 300g from converting it into a jam meanwile you will make 100g per blueberry jam. TL;DR: using pumpkins and melons and turning them into jam makes more profit than blueberries and cranberries, the blueberries and cranberries make more exp. Also, if you are wondering how to make money in winter, invest some money in fish ponds (bought at robin the carpenter under construct buildings). you can either put a sturgeon or lava eel in your ponds. sturgeons can be caught in the pond by the mountain during summer, and lava eels can be caught in the water on the 80th floor of the mines. It is difficult to catch them, but definitely do-able.

I literally have just been farming blueberries and cranberries out the wazoo and ended up with, mind you a first time players beginning, 50,000 in profit within the second year, not just blueberries but also grapes, and some well tended chickens and a cow

This takes crop progression in isolation, the meta for early game imo is to focus on fishing(make about 1k daily) and mining(when positive RNG), the idea is get the 1st rotation potato;(along with parsnip for scarecrow), 54 aka 6 patches (2700gp) done before the 12 so that you can buy atleast 3600 worth or 36 strawberry seeds. The maximum profit for month 1 comes if you water and plant it on the 12th night when you come back. I recommend you search for seeds of all three variety of tree for the snack which you need to use alot in the first month. It is very possible to get to the 80+ dungeon floors by the 21st if you manage stuff right. I literally don't socialize in the first month lol... The idea is you wanna get tier 2 sprinkler production going and manage to level up to unlock coal producer and start preservation tank arrays, i do 640 wood, aka 8 preservation tanks at a time. Once you get a decent production of melon jelly going for month 2, congrats you have automated farming, now go do the cows. Another good money maker is the keg + hops production of pale ale that sells for so much more than just selling hops, also do the terils crops and try to get the community centre done in year one wise. That's the gist of it off the top of my head...

2:37 He thought he missed watering that plant but it was an item on the ground that he already harvested but didnt have enough space to pick it up cause it was a silver/gold star kale. It dissapeared the next day because again, it was an item on the ground, I got a kick out of that.

I was following this and had and extra money so, I was able to buy 132 blue berry seeds. I use up 98% of my energy watering them each morning. I hope it is worth it.

Something I want to point out if you're short of wood and you're away from the farm, shake the trees. If you can shake them they can be chopped down and they couple of in-game weeks to regrow.

Nice info, thanks! I somehow thought I couldn't wait X number of days for some single variety of plant, so I bought various plants so that some would be ready in X-5, X-3 days etc. However, I now see that there is a benefit in just growing mass amounts of the same plant.

So, my first summer I planted 100 Blueberries. Took me until 10 am Game Time to water them all.

You should think harder about wild seeds/forageables. Especially in summer they are CRAZY profitable! (Not selling the plants themselves, but processing them into seed packets and selling those.) Prices and profits differ, but in summer one grape, one spice berry and one sweet pea would sell for 315 if they were gold-star quality, but make 10 seed packets at 55g each for 550g/recipe! Plus they are harvested in only 7 days. So that's zero cost to plant, and 22.91 gpd per plant. That beats the hell out of most plants, even the 20.8gpd the wiki estimates for blueberries. Worth considering! Of course, it gives forage experience rather than farming experience, which is great for maxing value on those pigs/truffles later!

What happens if you just invest into Corn at Summer? Those plants continue producing in the fall as well after all, and you'd be able to use the summer Corn revenues to plant those cranberries as well.
@pershop49507 жыл бұрын
The video showed one way to gain lots of money but certainly you can finance your future plants with other plants that you like. Keep in mind that the video showed a growing method that didn't include adventuring and doing other things, so if you don't want to water 50+ plants every day because you want to go fish or mine or live off the land and discover wild plants, you can grow with other plants, too.

My best spring was getting 270 strawberries on the 13th it was tough getting that much money and it was even tougher watering them everyday xD
