The problem is thas Stargate Universe hasn't reach its audience. This spin-off is kind of slow and too different from the other franchise. From my point of view, I stopped watching it during the first season to discover other series like Battlestar Galactica, Farscape and Firefly. Maybe I will give SGU another chance :)

Nexarius It just depends how much pressure it’s under. It’s limited by its power, and more bombardment means more power. If there was a limitless supply of ZPMs, it could work indefinitely. Under Wraith bombardment, it can last weeks. Under the pressure of the ocean, it can last thousands of years.

@@phil_the_cow I'm pretty sure that its in the lore and mentioned in Atlantis that under the ownership of the ancients the city took direct bombardment for around a year or more straight. Makes you wonder how many damn zpms they had stocked up, or how many would be needed. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe it was ever stated how long a fully charged set of zpms could maintain the shield, cause the cast were always working with ones near depletion

. SuperfatSCRUBLORD I’ve always wondered how the ancients made ZPMs. It’s never explained or said anything about, and the expedition is always hunting for them, despite having the ancient database with all the knowledge. @@phil_the_cow You know, come to think of it the Ancients were the only advanced race we know of across multiple galaxies that used a weapon system with finite ammunition. Part of me kinda believes there was a plant for making them on Atlantis at one point, because otherwise the year long siege doesn't make sense to me given how the wraith can dial in and lock down your gate. Oh and aren't the drones the only weapons system on Atlantis? The ships had energy weapons but i dont think Atlantis did? And the zpm thing always infuriated me, they explained what they were and how they held so much power, but not once do we get a hint as to their source. I was waiting for the episode where they'd find some kind of zpm factory to explain this, but it never happened.

@@randomrazr i have a feeling this source was non canon you are getting this from. Otherwise they would of detected the zpms with their constant scans of Atlantis. i have read all the books that take place after season 5 and there is no scene where they come across that. In fact they are still struggling with finding more. The writers constantly had to drain those zpms at atlantis to prevent the expedition from getting to powerful. Its one reason why we never hear about them taking the blueprints from the atlantis database and trying to build their own. since having a powerful power supply would not only be great for them to have but also for that tech to used back home on earth. Heck they should of been able to build a Asgard power generator by now since they got all their tech or at the very least the gouald power source since they have actual allies in the tok ra and plenty of captured ships they could use to study.

The 'millions" of years old subtitles from episode 1 of Stargate Atlantis was corrected to a slightly more believable date of 10,000 years in episode 2. Also, it should be noted that humans are unique and can evolve roughly compared to animals at an estimated rate of 10,000 to 1 in millions of years. So 50 million years would be like saying 5 billion years on an evolutionary scale.

Reminds me- Certian race of bug's I've been working with. They've got corvettes. They've got intercessors (basically battleships). And they've got hives. But the real great stuff is their massive Source Spheres. They serve as sources of energy for building new ships through matter-energy conversion, but also platforms to build cities upon and such. At a radius of 27 kilometers, and with organic superconducting hull armor-and quantum cooling-based heat-to-energy systems, they can take a lot of punishment, too.

its literally a city, that can fly through space like nothing, and can use the wormhole jump thing(forgot what its name was) to basically instantly get into another galaxy. its drone weapon system is literally overpowered, and has a shield that can sustain probably any dmg, as long as it has enough energy, and if it would have been the ancients, the city would run with 3 zpm all the time. all the weaknesses that we seen from the show, was caused by the fact that it never really had even 1 fully charged zpm, and the city was designed to be run with 3. i have to agree, this spaceship is the pinnacle of all spaceships. ancient ships are really amazing.

mostly true but still adorably quaint for an empire that has mobile habitat rings 3 million kilometer across, the ability to tap parallel universes for power which the ancients and rodney failed rather badly at. not to mention the fact they consider both dyson spears and full on ring worlds common and have widespread access to post singularity AI and have evolved to point the ancients were when the ascended but decided not to because omnipotence is boring. so again claiming a space born city is the pinnacle of any scifi universes technology would result is laughable. the culture universe is also far from the only scifi property to have planet scale ships. so yes a space born city is adorable in comparison with the culture and Atlantis could fit in the storge bay of one of there larger first contact exploration ships. you also have doctor who and the tardis so again the ancients arent even close to claiming pinnacle of all scifi ship tech.
@firefox30570
@firefox30570 6 жыл бұрын
could you tell me what show/movie/whatever are you referring to? would be easier to talk like that. "mobile habitat rings 3 million kilometer across" thats literally the most pointless thing anyone could ever come up with. even if it exist in a show, the complications it shows are so retarded, its existence is like a the stonehenge: it looks cool, really amazing with the technology of past eras, but its completely pointless. does it have any explanation how is it able to exist? cause anything that big, if its not really thin, could collapse into a black hole, from the gravity and mass. just because you can build it, it doesnt mean its worth it. "the ability to tap parallel universes for power which the ancients and rodney failed rather badly at." that power in the show is not worth it for the danger it has, compared to the zpms, which works similarly tho with less energy, but can make unlimited amount. "they consider both dyson spears and full on ring worlds common" if they need dison spheres common, i guess the parallel universe power isnt that great, cause a zpm outperforms that, since the tampered zpm in 08x04 is said that the zpm could have destroyed the entire solar system. "you also have doctor who and the tardis" which part of the tardis are you talking about? the time travel? janus completed the research in that technology twice, since his research was destroyed the first time. are you talking about the space manipulation, where the ship is bigger on the inside than the outside? what would be the point of that? its definitely cool, but the fact is, neither of those are more advanced technology, or more practical. not even talking about the fact that the ancients made a lot of incredible things, in that city of theirs, and what other sci fi shows had for us to see? not much. most of the things were pretty much built for 1 thing, and were completely useless for other things, while atlantis is the most universally useful ship. waiting for your answer where are the things you were talking about from.

The fascinating thing about the Lantean City-Ship's... While astonishingly capable and seemingly neigh invulnerable at times, it does have one critical weakness. Without the shields, not only is it defenseless, but rendered almost completely immobile as it is absolutely required for flight unlike conventional craft.. And not only that, but without the defense of the shield, the city itself is alarmingly fragile against any sort of weaponry.

Why, do the goal'ud still use the "Egyptian gods sheme and style?" except Anubis, who accepted the knowledge that the ancients was above what they are.... Goal'ud are egomaniacs, they forelf believe in the sheme that depicts them as gods... God's don't fail, gods, are never inferior.... So why should any other technology be better? They are unable to adapt as long as they stuck in their believe of superiority, this is their greatest weakness. Also the wraith are on a different but comparable tech. It is not better, only different. So the goal'ud may even be right in the statement that they can not learn anything from wraith. Ships might be even inferior, they are not built but breeded and need to do hyperspace breaks to recover....

I'm not quite sure how broad the types of constructs Spacedock intends to cover, but I would ADORE an episode on the good ol' big Bab 5. Though I understand if that won't happen seeing as it's even less of a ship than DS9...

@@rhysgarner8677 I think they are conflating "age" with "after the departure of its creators" here. Atlantis was built in Antarctica back on Earth when that was the Ancient home planet. Somewhere around 10-12 million years ago (IIRC) they left Earth during the Ancient plague and went to the Pegasus galaxy with the city at only partial capacity. I don't know if they've actually given a date for when Atlantis was actually built, but it had to have been at least 10-12 million years since that was when we are first aware they flew it.

I don't see a video for the NX-01 Enterprise yet. I've enjoyed the quality of your work on this and other videos. Very professionally put together. Good overview and a nice time frame. Many other channels that attempt these are far too long winded, extending to in excess of 30 minutes, without providing your level of detail, quality of images, or comprehensiveness of overall story and background.

Actually there were more then one of these. The episode "The Tower" shows this. There may even be more then just the two built by the Ancients. A third built by the replicators as you mentioned. But I imagine there are many more. Edit: Just found out there were 2 built by replicators and I bet there are more.

Yeah there were a ton of city ships made and also normal cities with many lantern devices such as the energy shield in emege and the city ship on that moon in the books and the other ship in the void between galaxies while the plague was happening in the Milky Way the ancients told all the city ships to leave the galaxy and fly to different planets in pegasus it’s just Atlantis was the capital of this great empire

The one thing that bugged me throughout the whole series, with a ship that complex, would there be an assembly yard / factory for larger ships / components that they would need to expand into and maintain there current ships? (Shouldn't have Atlantis been able to reproduce ZPMs for example...)
@Hellsong89
@Hellsong89 4 жыл бұрын
Logic dictates that yes that would be requirement for such a vessel of size and utility. My quess is that ether designer (story writer kough) was total moron who didnt think of this/they transported parts and ZPM's trough stargate produced in Atlantian worlds around their empire given no need to have them in board, or there is such factory on board, but its fully automated, hidden into construction of the ship out of sight and humans havent yet been able to locate it.. tearing into such construction as this takes time, specially when you barely understand "basic" startgate tech and factory probably is offline, or just damaged by something. If i recall right city didnt take hits, but it was not under warranty anymore when rediscovered, so even Atlantian tech could go down

It did have landing pads for large ships and the show did use them but writing for the show was poor was poor so it never went into that. If you look at the city it also looks like there are ports for seafaring vessels as well so if you didn't want to build ships for transporting everything you can use water barges
