I agree with you and it would be really great but somehow it also fits it shows how arrogant the antiques were because they didn't even think for a second that the repilcators could not have changed their basic code I mean even if it is said they will be surprised that the ancients are back but the people have gained enough experience that these machines are smart enough to adapt and could have issued a warning that their code had already been changed by the warith and, above all, the primitive people did it too . So all in all I would say it just shows the reasons why the antique ones have lost so often I think it happens often enough in our history but one could have expected more from people with such a high iq. :)

Still will never understand why they didn't have an Iris/Shield, as well as the IDC for the midway station, quite literally the first thing they built/established when getting SG command up and running.
@Gatetraveller1
@Gatetraveller1 Жыл бұрын
It’s because of the way the gate bridge works. If you were dial midway and send an IDC into the wormhole, it would only reach Gate 1 of 17. It would then be forwarded until it hit Midway and yet another gate sequence would be needed to get a confirmation signal back to the person who dialled. All together that’s roughly 30 minutes worth of waiting and by then it’s no longer secure to accept a traveller as anything could have happened in those 30 minutes (base takeover for example). So the Macro that is coded into every Gate in the chain is the security measure, but the Wraith managed to bypass it due to insider knowledge.
@builder396
@builder396 Жыл бұрын
@@Gatetraveller1 I dont think thats how it works though. Midway can send an IDC to the SGC with no problem despite still doing it through a gate bridge. The only issue would be that no confirmation can be sent back, at least not in a practical amount of time.
@Gatetraveller1
@Gatetraveller1 Жыл бұрын
@@builder396 That is how the bridge works if you put an iris on midway. Rodney explains it in the episode about the bridge. Even if the traveller steps along the gate bridge with the IDC, either Atlantis or the SGC could be overrun by the enemy and nobody present would be there to open the iris/shield. So the MACRO would have to be designed to automatically open either puddle shield if it isn’t done so in a set amount of time.
@icer1249
@icer1249 Жыл бұрын
An IDC system wouldn't work with the gate bridge as there dialing 17 gates on sequence. If they enter with the IDC transmission and the IDC is denied then splat against the shield. If they wait for a reply that's 34 gates that you have to wait for before knowing if u can go through, at which point someone may have ambushed you and midway would now be vulnerable to attack. The real security with midway was secrecy and the macro required to make it work.

So that's what warp looks like From a sublight ship perspective
@EternalScarecrow
@EternalScarecrow Жыл бұрын
The Lantean ship isn't at warp, though. They're at .999% the speed of light. Warp actually puts your ship in another dimension; think of it like moving a small raft from a slow stream into a white water rapid, and then back into the slow stream to return to our dimension. The Lantean ship was moving as fast as possible, in accordance with our understanding of physics, in the slow stream. It wasn't able to make the jump into the white water rapid.
@Cbricklyne
@Cbricklyne Жыл бұрын
@@EternalScarecrow That's not "Warp" speed travel. That's Hyperspace travel. Nobody in Stargate uses Warp speed travel or space Warp technology. That's a completely different form of FTL (Faster Than Light) travel from the Star Trek universe and franchise and works completely differently from hyperspace travel. And no, you can't just use it as a "catch-all" term to refer to anything that's traveling at FTL regardless of the underlying technology. For one thing warp speed is several times slower than hyperspace travel. (Space Folding from the Dune universe is the fastet of all FTL travel since it's practivally instantaneous) Warp travel works by distorting the space ahead of and behind the ship (compressing space in front if it and expanding it behind it - kind of like how aerofoils work for plans and boats) while the ship itself, not moving at FTL speed or violating Einsteins relativistic laws about matter not traveling at the speed of light - rides the space in between that's accelarated to FTL (space is not subject to the same light speed restriction that matter is), aka the "wake" to get to FTL speed. That's different from Hyperspace travel which, as you correctly put it, takes the ship through a seperate dimension or "hyperspace" through which you can bypass the speed limitations of regular space. Completely different mechanics and completely different tehcnology. And you can't just conflate them like they're the same thing. They're not even close to the same thing.

Every time there is an advanced species in Stargate that could help make things go easier, they are too busy with their own fight (replicators) or too arrogant to have any serious interaction with humans. It's annoying that the writers just choose to wipe out these advanced aliens in most cases rather than leave them in for meaningful interactions. Asgard, Atlanteans the Tollan spring to mind. If you're ascended theres alsorts of made up rules just so we can't have too much interaction that would spoil the struggle. And somehow I will always go back and watch more Stargate if they choose to produce another TV show. lol.

Someone who again never paid any attention. The Replicators had a code in them not to harm the ancients. And it would have still been there, had it not been for Rodney. Had it been there, the Replicators would not have been a problem at all.

@@nihilityjoey oh I know that. But they have been gone thousands of years. They didn't think the humans who saved there asses were smart enough to offer anything to them. Hence the arrogance.

@@LeJimster What? Did you miss the part where they were willing to let the humans coexist with them on Atlantis? That's arrogance?

@@nihilityjoey I haven't watched this for a couple of years, but from what I remember the Atlantean commander takes control of Atlantis immediately and asks all the humans to leave, with a promise that eventually they will have a dialogue once they're settled. I don't remember any promise of them cohabitating. If that was the case they wouldn't have kicked them all off. But it's been awhile, so I might be misremembering. And yes I stand by what I said, the Ancients are arrogant save a select few. We see so many examples of it. I guess they have to be though, it would be too easy if the Atlantis expedition had access to such people with advanced knowledge. Every time we find an advanced race in the Stargate series' they eventually get wiped out. It's a little unimaginative the writing tbh.
