The Starlink Mini initial launch last month was disappointing for RV and boat nomads - but today, Starlink has finally made the Mini Dish available to all. And it can be ordered with both a 50GB data plan called Mini Roam, or Mobile Regional with unlimited data for $150/mo.
And.. in motion use is now supported on Mini Roam or Mobile Priority.

I purchased the Mini and received it about 10 days ago. I just took it abroad to the UK and switched to Mobile Priority for the month. If anyone is interested, I can confirm that it works globally on this plan and works quite well. You can switch back to mini roam for the next billing cycle. I can also confirm the mini roam plan does NOT work outside the home country, currently.

I canceled Starlink service earlier this month (was on the original beta group). I agree the price is way too high and to get decent service here I'd have to cut down a bunch more trees. I'm keeping the trees and dumping Starlink. I've signed up for the AT&T 50GB data plan, which will more than meet my needs until we get fiber service here. (I was holding off on ending Starlink because the local Telco - RTI told me to my face last year that they'd be installing fiber service here this year - their line runs @ 100' from my property. Called them a few months ago to find out when they were going to start installing and they said they'd changed their plans and weren't going to be installing fiber this year. They also REQUIRE ANY broadband service, including fiber to also have a land line - ASININE!)

Currently I have to pause it and un-pause it If I am not going to use it for a couple weeks. Bad thing is you have to buy the remaining days depending on your billing dates.

"Mini doesn't perform quite as high as Starlink Standard". Please elaborate. Consensus seems to be Mini dish and Gen3 are on par under ideal conditions, but Gen3 connection is more robust in the face of adversity: obstruction, weather. Are there other conditions where Gen3 might provide for more reliable video meetings? I need to use for work on the road "portable", not in-motion, from Nova Scotia to Arizona. I'll pay for more power if it means better reliability. I've found no side-by-side field test of Mini and Gen3. Also, graphic emphasizes Mobile-Regional LOWEST PRIORITY but Mini Roam graphic does not. Does this imply Mini Roam enjoys higher priority than M-R? Great vid, thx.

I was one of the first to buy the mini. I built a mount for a mobile office connection in my tesla. The glass roof makes the mounting internally fairly simple. Not being able to drive and just stop with out adjusting it is just awful experience. The 250$ a month for roaming services os just terrible. Not being able to drive or boat with it is a ridiculous business model. 150 bucks and this guy cant untie from the dock and use it. Not even at anchor. As soon as my car starts to drive the system shuts down and then on reboot its a bit of hassle to get restarted. For a tesla owner I hope this ends up being added to the car through the celluar antenna system. If you have to aim which you do why not make it smaller? At least that would make it better for weekend packing or just easier to transport in general. I realize its pretty elite thing but internet connections in whole are not. To expensive for what you get.

Why didn't you talk about the actual dish because as it stands I see no benefit or reason to pay more for the mini dish over the standard with it being less powerful... The size alone isn't enough.

That sounds like the discounted price being offered for Starlink Residential (fixed location) service and a Starlink Standard dish in certain markets. That is likely not mobile, or the Mini. But if it is indeed the Mini - please email us a screenshot so we can do a story.

That is for residential fixed location only in select started. It is not mobile and will lose the discount if you move to a new area or change to a mobile plan.

Starlink has added a stipulation that if you take advantage of the regional savings, you can't change your service plan for 6 months. (It sounds like they will even block you from changing plans in your account yourself). If you do want to change plans, you'll have to contact support and they'll charge you the $200 savings so it negates ordering the regional savings in the first place. If you want Mobile Regional, you will just need to pay the $499 for the hardware or keep an eye out on the refurbished hardware that sometimes becomes available.

$500 for the hardware that includes all the hardware and cables for common nomad use and installation. Which has minimal cost to include. $100 a month for unlimited service. I feel it's OK to cap it's maximum speeds as there doing. I'm currently not willing to jump on board. Wish I felt it was cost competitive to say cellular options.
@MobileInternetResourceCenter
@MobileInternetResourceCenter Ай бұрын
Well.. they are not capping speeds, it's just the result of a smaller antenna array of the Mini. Cellular and satellite internet are different things - that have pros & cons, and different costs to deploy. For nomads who really need access where there's no cell service, then Starlink is worth the cost. Otherwise, stick to the cellular coverage map.
