Our first set-up out at a remote bush camp - watch us set this beauty up and give her a testing! We make live calls and interactions for all to see - and we have a little fun along the way.
At Caravans by the camp fire we are on a journey to find a new caravan - check out our reviews plus lots of other stuff! / @caravansbythecampfire

Great insight- wow! Clever gadget that is. Thanks for sharing, was helpful seeing it in poor weather conditions also!

I'm reading elsewhere that the antenna heater is turned on by default. It's in the app. Turning it off should drop its power usage down considerably. I've read the system usually consumes around 2 to 2.5 Amps. Safe travels.

Yeah it’s not all fantastic… it sucks power like crazy and I’ve found it dictates where you camp. In Australia, any trees shading you to the south will in many cases result in no signal. Starlink state they require 100 degree view of the sky… which is heaps. 7amps is a lot when you run it day and night. Hardly like a fridge which should average out to around 2. I see it peak at 10. I’ve done the 12v conversation which requires the Tycon pw-1000 injector or it won’t work! Don’t think you can just go down to Jacar and buy one. A company called dishypower also makes a special injector for it. The voip quality is excellent except it will often give long pauses in conversation.. you just have to wait for it to resume. Starlink say this is the switching of satellites.. but I’m sceptical that’s a valid answer.

Ours drew between 2.5-4amps running through a 2K inverter. Not sure what the special injector is you talk about? Ours has worked everywhere without exception - yes sometimes it takes a while to connect to satellites but once up and running all is fine.

Good info. What has been your experience when it's raining, particularly heavy rain? Do you have to pack it up and be without internet?

Hi there! I have to say we've only been in light to moderate rain with it on, clouded out and stormy - it has continued working without a problem. I have set it up under heavy dark cloud cover several times, it takes a little longer to make the connection but it's always connected. I leave it out in the rain - no problem. In the few months we've had it I can only speak of one issue connecting and that was in the VIC highlands on a clear day - go figure that one - eventually it connected when I moved the dish several times. Hope this helps.

I know initial cost is around the $900-1200 (depending on sales etc) but what is the monthly cost, upload & download speeds please?
@caravansbythecampfire
@caravansbythecampfire Жыл бұрын
It’s on sale now - half price $450. The plan is $175 per month for the RV version, you can suspend the plan at any time so you don’t have to pay and reactivate on your next trip or in the areas where you have no signal - I’ve had down load speeds of up to 100mps - averages 20-50 depending on conditions. Uploads between 10-20mps is normal so far. Had no issue live streaming events, uploading KZfaq videos or making and receiving calls and emails. Out performs my nbn high speed service at home easily. I wouldn’t be buying a satellite tv setup for a van now days with this option around. Each to their own I guess.

@@CaptZenPetabyte I guess technology will continue to improve, then only current downside is the need for 240volt power - if you have an inverter then no worries. I'm sure a 12 volt version must be on its way very soon as most people don't have an inverter. They are coming out (if not already) with a car mount version (pretty xxy I believe). I'm sure some educated elect experienced folk could sort out a solution. For now, we are loving it! I was watching the NFL (yank football if you didn't know) yesterday morning live at 6.00am in the bush and it was crystal clear 4k vision for over 4 hours - dropped out once for 10 secs during that time.

@@caravansbythecampfire my original trade is electronics/electrical, they prob keep the 240 to keep the current manageable as its powering the sat sig (theres a bit of current there) as well as the router & wifi signals too. Easier, but youve given me an idea to research now. 😉

@@caravansbythecampfire it draws too much power for the average 12v system, which is why it’s 240v

@@mountainconstructions what 12v kit? There is no such thing except self hacks.. and your not laughing. I found out if you don’t use a serious 48v injector it won’t wok. It draws over 100w which is a shitload of power.. and why it is 240v
