I would strongly advise adding a few holes near the bottom (possibly below the grate). While obviously oxygen on its own will speed up the burn rate, the addition of holes for intake might allow a more even flow of oxygen through the charcoal. It would allow air to be sucked in and mix with the oxygen pulling heat up and might reduce total time.
@trentgay3437

I was thinking the jets should have been set up to make a venturi and bring in the atmosphere mix it with the oxygen as it's blasting the charcoal.
@OLIVERs758
@OLIVERs758 Ай бұрын
@@trentgay3437 that would also have benefited the design. Current spacing, angles, and pressures focus the oxygen almost too much in my opinion. Yes, it will start the charcoal, but probably not so evenly as preferred. The plain charcoal chimney (that he destroyed previously) is almost more effective at evenly starting the charcoal. While not fast like this obviously, if only half your charcoal is really going and you have to wait for it to even out, you defeat the purpose in my opinion. When i grill i do my best to have even heat across my charcoal side.

Adding some holes under the grate or lifting the whole thing up with some bricks to allow more oxygen from the atmosphere through the bottom would help. Also putting the oxygen injectors on an angle facing slightly up so they would form some kind of vortex inside would help it burn a lot more evenly. Otherwise an awesomely expensive way to light some coals 😂.
@aaronlandry3947

One improvement you can make is arrange the nozzles at an angle so they basically make a cyclone of them spinning air. This will help spread the pure oxygen among more of the flammable material. As well you can try some tricks from Dyson and jet engines and such by using the air to multiply more air speed and find the right ratio between airspeed and oxygen to get the fastest burn time. Because what's better than pure oxygen? Jet propel oxygen. You can have a literal fire tornado coming out of your fire chimney.
@ger1396
@ger1396 Ай бұрын
i loved it, and a very small improvement i'd try to do, if possible is to drill the holes at an angle, so the excess of air swirls around, and helps the airflow

Get some inspiration from a cheap blacksmithing forge. Get a brake rotor, attach it to a blow dryer with some black iron and a flange. That way you can just sit your chimney on top of the brake drum and that should make it start right up and you don't need pure oxygen. You can probably use something instead of a brake rotor, but brake rotors are meant to handle high heat and last forever in a cheap forge. I've got coals real hot real quick with some 3" pipe and a blow dryer.

This is a cool idea, and there are some ways I quickly thought of that may improve this. (Note, I am not a mechanical engineer.) 1. If you leave a bunch of holes or space under the chimney, you can get more air. This is basically what smokeless fire pits do. 2. If the nozzles where the oxygen comes out of are pointed straight up, the air pressure difference they create can suck up air from under the chimney. This will increase the efficiency. This is related to how Dyson fans work. You might be able to get a similar performance with fewer nozzles. 3. Maybe change how the top handle is mounted so it won't get as hot?
@logicalsparrow2130
@logicalsparrow2130 Ай бұрын
If you make the nozzles point at an angle, you can create fire tornadoes. I don't know if that will help, but maybe it can help distribute oxygen more evenly inside the chimney space.

You might also be able to get away with just using a strong fan like a leaf blower instead of pure oxygen. The downside is noise.
@sumduma55
@sumduma55 Ай бұрын
@logicalsparrow2130 "the" or "a" problem with a fan or leaf blower is that the atmosphere is only about 20-21% oxygen and is almost 80% nitrogen which will not react in the fire. Think about how you can blow a candle or a match out. It's this inert gas either separating the flame front from the fuel or cooling the fuel below ignition temperatures. You essentially need 5 times the air flow to equal the same amount of available oxygen which also increases the amount of inert gasses along for the ride. This method is better suited for established fires to increase the burn rates and amount of heat put off.
