Our wood stairs were stained orange since the 70s, and we needed to match it to our new flooring. This is a timelapse of refinishing my wood stairs, as well as painting the hallway a subtle wavy accent colour.

The stairs look so much more modern in the natural raw wood. I would do anything I had to to keep that color. I hate how even of you just oil or clear coat, the wood out turns so yellow. That natural matte wood tone is so beautiful!

Looks fantastic, what a big difference !! The gray stain to match the flooring came out so nice and the black railing looks so much better, you have really good taste !

I did my stairs too, still have to poly tho. I was extremely proud of myself so I know the mix of fatigue and gratification you are going through. Looks beautiful!

The finished stairs look absolutely beautiful! What an incredible amount of work you have put in, just wow. 💪 I wish I had a compressor for my project. I'm repainting 4 old white doors, they look similar to yours. But the sanding takes forever 🙄. But your video motivates me to restart my project 😀 👍👩‍🔧

You can rent a sander just an orbital sander with no compressor would be faster.

A pre-stain wood conditioner may have helped the stain adhere more evenly....for next time.

I know this video is 3 months old at this point but I wanted to make a suggestion for any future painting projects they’ll be doing: buy some paint spouts for your paint cans so you don’t keep spilling it all down the sides of the can and wasting as much paint. They make them for half pint cans of paint as well as the larger size. They are available at places like Canadian Tire or The Home Depot. I was also curious about the powdered substance that you put on the metal sheet and added water to. Was that some kind of drywall filler or spackling? It seems like a hassle to have to add water to it before filling the holes in the walls when you could just use DryDex and move on to the next hole in the drywall. No water or mixing needed. I apologize if I’m wrong about whatever that stuff is/is for. Just wanted to make a suggestion
