Something as simple as move your weight into your lead ankle is valuable ! Never understood where on my foot the weight was supposed to shift too! Thanks

This is an exceptional explanation of the shift/turn move that many tout. Most Yt instructors are showing the rhythm, and not the pressure points. Subscribed

I had a 2 hour lesson with Chris on April 6, 2024. SHORT version: Hands down the BEST lesson I've ever had. My Golf DNA - does use your natural DNA swing to make a better swing for you. LONG version: I am a 14 handicap who is a middle aged golfer. I played a massive hook left for years average score of 86 (80-96 range) when playing from 6,400 yards. I've tried to fix it with videos, in person lessons, taking my own videos. I was very lucky to be referred to Chris by the pro at Hawks Landing in Florida. I told Chris that at my age I can't learn new moves that require fine changes to my swing. My older body can only make moves that it knows already. Chris quickly identified my swing flaws which I knew already from my own video swing analysis, but he was able to show me how my own feel was wrong. Where I was trying to mimic online swing videos swings, what I thought was real, was not. That was the most important part of an in person lesson was that Chris was able to get from feeling something was right, to getting it to be right. I shot a 95 the day before his lesson. The next two rounds 94. The following week 85 and 85. I went from hitting 1-2 greens per round to 2-4 greens per round. After a month of working on the new swing changes with scoring between 82 - 88, today it came together for 60% of my round. I shot a 77 hitting 5 greens and making 4 birdies. I'm confident Christ can help anyone. (Like an investment banker - just remember that historical returns does not guarantee future success). I thought his teaching fee was high, but the 2 hours with him was more valuable than the 20 previous hours of lessons I've had in the past.

This is very detailed instruction indeed. I am working my way from week one, and as Chris tells us, just keep rehearsing the moves over and over. If I feel something is wrong or I have somehow forgotten something, then I just go back to my saved videos and re-watch. These are not quick fixes but a method that requires effort and the desire to learn. I wish I had this type of instruction 20 odd years ago, that's for sure. Thanks again for the effort you put into these videos.

Great video, Chris. The way you explained and demonstrated the down swing transition struck a cord with me. People get scared to allow the head to move in the golf swing when it has to move to avoid injury and to actually take advantage of ALL of the forces we use to produce clubhead speed. Horizontal force is a real thing!!! Wishing you much success with this new found movement.

Nice video! The transition is something I am working on. When I hear "sit down" or some say the "squat" it's hard not to think of it as a pause or at least something that doesn't happen very quickly. When in fact, I just figured out how it's actually the time of the swing where the body moves and rotates the fastest.

I'm a hacker. Happy when I break 90 counting all strokes, playing it where it lies etc. The way you explain this resonates with me. I have always moved my weight onto my left toes and right heel to prevent my upper body from "swaying" backwards in my backturn. But when I come forward that weight just moves more onto my left toes, rather than the ankle the way you share it here. I always feel like my hips are "closed" off and I will even cheat to start them early to avoid this. Seeing the hips closed when you talk about the weight not being on your heel actually clicked something for me. I'm never going to be on the PGA Tour, but just being able to get the ball in the air rather than everything being a stinger is the way to make golf more fun for me. Thanks for this video and you just gained a subscriber. Hopefully you will teach it the way hackers like me can understand the body movements all the time!

Chris, what I am about to say may just be a function of camera angle. It looks like and measures on screen at the 9:59 mark that the back of the ball is even with your left temple as you want. The question I have is where should the back of the ball be in relation to the middle of your stance/inside heals. It looks like in your demo that in relation to your stance the back of the ball looks to be 1/2 to a ball forward of middle. I attribute that to the fact that the left hand is below the right hand which gives you a slight spine tilt away from the target. Also, where you want the ball is 4/5 inches in front of the left arm pit or the bottom of the arc. I am asking so that I can place a putting mirror, as an example, on the ground to easily position where the ball should be based on what I can see as I set up. Also, how might that change based on club selection? I should also tell you that in my case I am 81 and set up with both my feet flared out varying amounts more so than your set up which should not affect inside heal position for either of us. Thanks in advance for your help, Ron
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA 3 ай бұрын
Hi Ron, in a stock shot format, we are looking for the ball position to be in line with the lead ear (In a properly balanced address position that has a minor amount of spine tilt) You’ll hear me say lead ear or logo on chest in a lot of the videos. The Low point in the swing will generally be 3-5 inch’s in front of the ball and if you stack up the lead side at impact (shoulder, hip, knee, ankle), then you’re going to be in the safest place you can be anatomically when swinging the club, you’ll have a consistent low point that can be used for all clubs and you wont be affecting the path by using the old adage of ball up for flatter face clubs, ball back for higher loft. I’d make sure you back-check the starting position with a camera both your setup and position and then use the mirror to create your own reference points that you can use daily. Hope that helps.

Your videos have been invaluable. I love the fact that you are putting in the actual drills for us to work through with! A quick question though, perhaps a request for clarification: (in conjunction with the 30.60.90 video), When should we be feeling the sitting down sensation in respect to the arm? Should we be start sitting as arm is in the brief moment past 90 and all the way through impact? Thanks again!
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA Жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, glad you’re enjoying the videos. You want to feel the sit into the lead side as the hands and arms get to 90 and then continue to drive the hips open like I outline in the power move that unlocks speed video. This is the post up move. Hope that helps.

What are your thoughts on practicing off a mat daily? (or every other day) Do you think this gives you a realistic practice session? What are the drawbacks? (if there are any) Any advice?
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA 8 ай бұрын
I think hitting off a mat in the early phases of change helps relax the subconscious tremendously and can help students through the discomfort of changes as well as some of the ball striking chaos that can ensue when making changes. I think hitting balls of mats and then challenging yourself to move onto grass early on and be willing to go back to the mats is how I want my students to look at things. You want your practice sessions to be productive. The distractions of bad shots can really make it hard to get locked into the deep learning needed for rewiring a movement pattern. Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything further.

It wasn't clear to me if I should work on doing the closed hip slide with the weight going to the ball of the foot in transition or the weight should transfer more to the heal and avoid the closed hip slide. Please advise. Thank you.
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA Жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, when you make the move to the lead side, focus on your weight immediately moving towards the ankle and NOT the forward part of the foot. This will force the hip to start opening up right away and keep you from a closed hip slide. Good luck.

It's very possible, without seeing it, that your shoulder plane is much too steep going back. You should feel long or stretched out, on the lead side flank.

At what point do you start the shift. Is it before you complete the backswing?
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA 9 ай бұрын
Generally we will see the move back to the lead side in the area of the backswing when the lead arm approaches parallel to the ground all the way up to the hands working slightly above the trail shoulder. It's player dependent really.
@roysacavage2694
@roysacavage2694 Жыл бұрын
Chris, how much "sit down into it" is too much? When you demonstrate this move, your head dips "but" when you actually hit the ball, your head looks like it barely dips, if at all. I feel that exaggerated moves have to be done in order to show what's going on in the swing "but" , for visual learners, it tends to stick in their minds which may complicate things. Also, the weight shift to the lead leg is going into your lead heel, right? Is there any lead knee movement (like a pitcher throwing a ball) towards the target that initiates this movement as I've seen some instructors demonstrate? This is such a key movement that has been shown so many different ways (by others) which, sometimes, results in confusion. BTW, you're doing a great job. Keep it up.
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA Жыл бұрын
You only need very small amounts of "sit" when working at speed. I will have students overcook it just a little bit at first and then tone it back as they become a little more freed up with the movement. Most of the time with irons, fairway woods, hybrids, Im not prioritizing ground force, so you'll only see me drop down a tiny amount. With driver that's a different story. The weight should move to the lead ankle in transition and move further back to the heel as the hips open up. Thanks for watching and the the kind words.

How relaxed are your arms in a golf swing ?
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA 10 ай бұрын
Mine are pretty relaxed. I tend to hold more tension than I want in the hands and wrists but if I get a chance to practice and play a bunch, I can relax the subconscious and that’s when tension levels are very reduced.

Using MA terminology, some would say that it’s the good ol’ compound pivot. Others might say it’s internal femur rotation coupled with abduction. Most students aren’t concerned as much with what it’s called as much as they are just doing the movement correctly.

Chris I am a new subscriber to your Channel. I am finding it difficult to follow your Videos in sequential order that you are teaching. Is it possible for you to setup in your home channel Playlist a sequential list of your basic & essential golf videos in an order from the start to end of all your 'The Essential Basics' as though you are teaching a sequential instructional program. I fully realise you have created the Week 1 to Week 3 program but even finding these on your Channel as it is not very clear in the video Playlist which one is which in the titles. Besides these 3x weekly videos you have others that you teach that would be essential & I would love it if you could place these videos in a Essentials Playlist in clear sequential order that you would teach from a beginner to even golfers like myself wanting to change or reconstruct my golf swing. It would contain all your very 'the basics' videos say 1-10 in the order that you would need us to follow. I am really appreciating your instruction which is helping me quiet dramatically improve my swing after years of being very much confused about finding how to get back to striking the ball purely again. I am a 9 h'cap player but have known for quiet a few years now that I wasn't hitting the ball to my real desire & I am trying to follow your instruction as sequential as I can to going back & constructing the basic essentials I need to strike the ball purely again with each & every club in my bag. Thank you so much.

Chris, old lady here trying to follow your instructions….I find you are talking too fast around the key movements and too much talk justifying why….& blah, blah, lost you, confused. Please can you in a 1,2,3 scenario just tell succinctly (isolated) what should be done at foot, ankle and leg positions to do this weight transfer. Many thanks 😊
@MyGolfDNA
@MyGolfDNA Жыл бұрын
Sorry to leave you confused Liz. The pressure should move from the trail ankle to the lead ankle with about 80-85% from the trail side to the lead side. The head should move back into position or slightly in front of where it was at address. Those are the key points to make this move right. I don’t focus on any of the leg positions at all in the video. The hips should move dynamically and get into a good spot just by focusing on the pressure shift/sit onto the lead foot. Hope that helps.
