I think Barry telling Sally that “he did this” is him trying to remove that blame and guilt from her and onto him.

I feel like Gene wasn't trying to save Barry, he wanted him to walk right into the trap. And it's funny cause Barry said earlier in the season that Cousineau was a bad actor, only to be fooled by his acting in this finale

S03E02:- Barry: "You're a bad actor, Mr. Cousineau." S03E08:- Gene tricks Barry and gets him busted using ACTING lol

That knife going through that guy's neck and poking out through the whites of his eyes is one of the gnarliest movie injuries I have EVER seen lol

This entire episode just left me speechless. Knockout scenes, one after the other. I realized what Albert was gonna say like 5 seconds before he said but still the, "... starting now." gave me full-body chills lol

This may have been my favourite finale out of all the seasons. Bill Hader is fucking amazing in this episode and the gut punch ending, even though Barry deserves it, just left me speechless after the episode ended.

Barry had every opportunity to quit this life. Albert literally had him dead to rights and he LET HIM GO. All he had to do was NOT KILL, he could have just taken Gene and left, but his determination to not face the consequences of his actions was too much. And the fact that in spite of all the death he's caused, when there's a gun to his head he has the gall to beg for his life. He tries to deny it but death only has meaning to him when he's the one on the other end. This show isn't just about a good guy who was manipulated into being a killer, it's about a guy who could have been good but lacked the empathy to be able to resist becoming a killer.

Gene was 100% in favor of Jim’s plan. He was just acting his ass off and using reverse psychology to get Barry to walk into the trap

The Albert scene is just insane. Albert's in all of like, ten minutes of the show but you fully understand and get him as the dramatic climax of Barry's character for the season.

That garage scene was shot masterfully. According to an interview with Henry Winkler (should be easily found here on YT), they had not yet rehearsed the scene. When he first arrived the garage was completely full, but while he was in hair and make-up they had cleared it out entirely minus the two chairs and the camera crane. Not one crew member was inside the garage during the scene.

The animal is a panther referencing the tale Fuches heard. And Hader loves horror this scene scare the shit out of me and … . The fact that the use of the acting repetition exercises from season 1 (“I love you”) come full circle is great

10/10 Season, Peak Dark Comedy

Honestly, Hank went through some shit, but he kinda proved that he has stones. This whole thing leading up to this, this whole show "I missed my calling, I should have been in customer service, a fancy hotel receptionist.' He's a joke. Even he himself admitted it. He never had what it took to be a criminal, he never had the resolve or the willingness to kill. Then when the chips were down, he snapped steel handcuffs, beat up an armed guard, killed a tiger and rescued his lover. I didn't know he had it in him and frankly I don't think he did either.

This episode cranks it up to 11 real quick 😬 Bill Hader has said in interviews he wrote the 3rd and 4th season together as a whole package during the Pandemic. They had the 3rd season, then Lockdown started so he just kept writing and wrote the 4th season... then went back and tweaked the 3rd season to fit what they were trying to do as a whole.

That final shot is one of my favorites in the series. Jim and Gene congratulating themselves and we quickly see how everyone quickly leaves Jim alone. Leaving him with nothing but to go back into an empty house, with the picture of his dead daughter on the inside. Jim won. But in the end, it didnt undo the tragedy

Pretty sure my heart rate was CONSISTENTLY HIGH when I first watched this episode X)

that scene between barry and albert has to be genuinely top 5 television moments for me man it’s just so good

The reason Jim kept asking Gene those questions in the beginning (the way i read it) is cuz he already knows/has an idea of what the situation is, he just wanted to psychologically manipulate Gene to feel the guilt for not turning Barry in and using that guilt to insure that whatever plan he uses Gene for that he won’t be able to back out after saying that he was protecting a man who didn’t care for the woman they both loved.

My interpretation of Gene is that those four questions didn't just reveal the truth to Moss. They also revealed the truth to Gene. Do you love my daughter? Do you love Barry? Did Barry love my daughter? Why are you protecting Barry? It broke him down so he could actually consider, why am I protecting this man I do not love, who killed the woman I do love. His relationship with Berry is weird and complicated, but Moss boiled it down to a couple really simple questions.

I thought this would've been an incredible series finale at the time if there was no season 4. I don't remember them ever commenting on ig Barry will be renewed back then.

Gene beat him with acting.

I don't know if I forgot, but didn't Gene accept "hush money" from Barry? Hence, the new house, the new lease on life. So he isn't necessarily protecting Barry but more of his conscious because of what he did even though he loved Janice.
