According to the UK Guardian newspaper, Drax is worth £150 million. He is one of the wealthiest politicians in the UK and Barbados was just about to increase his wealth. For what?????

It would help the poor people of Barbados that have nothing if you prime minister would take that money you want to pay drax for the slave plantation and instead use it to purchase land or homes for the poor and struggling people of Barbados.

That is literally the purpose of purchasing the plantation.... The government wants to use the land to build low and middle income housing.

It just doesn’t make sense to me paying for land whilst requesting reparation!! Drax should give the land to Barbados and pay for the building of the houses

This is an utter disgrace. In 1833 the British Government took out a loan to give the 'owners' of enslaved people reparations, this was not repaid until 2015. So every descendent of the enslaved, who worked in the UK during that period, and paid taxes helped repay that loan. That was bad enough but now there is an opportunity to rectify a measure of that pain but she has chosen to add to it. We cannot run around on the international stage taking about reparations for slavery, but then give their descendants money.

Drax is only one of many white landowners..he is in England..but many are right here in Barbados..

Mia knows what she can and cannot do. Whether it is abhorrent or not. So those critics who think that she can break the laws of the land to accommodate them is sadly mistaken.The Drax family of today should want this STAIN off their name and do what is needed to do so.

Ok Madam PM, but remember this is about tangibles in the form of cash reparations payments to the descendant of slavery of Barbados, with Cash payments black folks can buy or build their owns homes, open businesses, manufacturing, make investments in billion dollar industries like Medical marijuana, renewable energy, real estate, tourism etc and live in prosperity and contribute to the future of Barbados as they see fit like everyone else, and another thing who or where is this reparations will go to? The descendants of slavery in cash payments or the treasury for political objectives, after all some of us black folks don't care to much over trivial in house dog fights for bread crumbs.

The owners of Drax plantations said they are not resposible for their ancestors sins of being slave holdres. Well they should not claim the land because it was was used for slavery. Every Bajan with the surname Drax should be compensated by the Drax in the UK. It is their ancestors who were enslaved by the MP's family. They have equal rights to that land.

PM Mottley concerns for reparation and the history of the 17th Century with Mr Drax and others in Barbados etc needs to be resolved. If reparation is justifiable then the UK Govt in my view should lead discussions with Mr. Drax and others to resolve the matter.

She's not doing a good job at it. Everyone with the surname Drax in Barbados should have claim to that land. It's their ancestors who were enslaved on the plantaion by the Draz family. No African came on the ships witih surname Drax.

The fact we have a man running in parliament who has a mindset to think this isnt his business is degusting and embarrassing. He should not be in a position of power and should be forced to pay up. Barbados, take the land, i doubt he will come over and do anything because he is a coward who hides being a screen and doesnt speak publicly about this. Disgraceful human.

This plantation is a crime scene. Hundreds of slaves are buried there. . this plantation should be seized. Slaves were unpaid,beaten and forced to work for long hours Where are my ancestors buried? .which country?

This move has just totally negated years of discussion and made the time spent by Mr. Prescod, Mr. Denny and others seeking reparation come to naught. I will not go further with this with you as you were not at the meetings we had with Mr. Drax and to be quite candid you have turned your back on the people for a position.

@@capstone1073 government should not be involved in these discussions. Attorneys representing the people of BARBADOS should be dealing with any settlement from this.
