I find it very interesting how, back in the day, some local stations showed a brief commercial while identifying themselves.

People say TV's gotten too commercialized today? Nah, buddy, it's ALWAYS been that way!

Thanks to this, I learned today that (per Wikipedia) WHB and KMBC shared time on channel 9, switching every 90 minutes, between mid-1953 and June, 1954, when KMBC took over for good. Thus the "WHB-TV Channel 9 signs over to KMBC-TV" promos. Short life for those promos! Nice piece of history here.

1:26: Now we know why Ethel kept telling everyone to have more crackers at her dinner party -- after the appetizer, the salad, the main course, and even dessert! "Serve them all through the meal, they said!"

Great grabs, especially with the now defunct WHB and the ident for the changeover from WHB to KMBC! WVEC, Lynchburg, is the oldest continuous primary ABC affiliate south of the Mason Dixon line, with WLOS in Asheville a close second. Both still have their original call letters, although WLOS has always been on Channel 13

WVEC is in the Hampton Roads area, not Lynchburg.

I'm guessing Bill Gilliam hadn't yet come on board at CBS?

i assume you'd hear local announce over the silent part, perhaps "stay tuned for so and so" and a spoken id?

Usually a standard station I.D. {"WNBT-TV, Channel 4, New York."}
@wmbrown6 Жыл бұрын
@@fromthesidelines - Would have been "WNBT New York, Channel 4"; the -TV didn't come in to that station until it became WRCA-TV on Oct. 17, 1954.

I finally see why Oreo won out over Hydrox. The former’s name doesn’t sound like something I put in the sink or laundry.
