In this video I will attempt to talk about phase changes with the gases. What it is, how to search them, what to expect, and some experiments to hopefully show what happens as I mess with N2O by compressing it, moving it around, and at the end a simple setup for how to clean your base of pesky liquid water without contaminating any existing liquid pipe network. Long video but hopefully I have put this information in a way that it can help you or come back and refer to it at a later point.

This playlist comes as a blessing. I came back to the game after a year and phasing was as confusing on first sight as anything they introduce. It's people like you that make this game understandable and enjoyable for dummies like me :D

This was a big game change and it tripped up many people. I think at the time i made the videos there were hardly any fairly in depth tutorials or explanations how it worked or how to work with it. Some speculation but nothing as in depth so i did try to make the videos to help explain the underlying mechanics. Probably still too complex but hopefully it could help explain some of what goes underneath to maybe help out with how to work with it. I’m glad it has helped! Best of luck with exploding stuff in the future!

very good video. now i finally learned how to deal with phase change. I was very angry about it since the update and completely avoided it until now. but because i am on Mimas and i do not want to waste NOS (because my big base needs a lot of N2), instead i wanted to store it properly and now i understand how to do it.

Hey @Shadowdrake082 you input is massively appreciated on my end. I am still frying my brain trying to work with the active and passive drain and expansion valves trying to get freaking water to condense out of my gas mix (which has Nitrous in it, but I do not want Nitrous as a liquid). Could you possibly do a follow-up with some examples how to deal with liquids in a practical way? Example 1: You have an H2 combustor and super hot steam. How do you get the steam out as water in a practical way using the phase change knowledge? Example 2: You want to extract a specific gas out of an atmosphere using phase change. Let's say Pollutant or Oxygen out of Mars atmosphere. How do you set up your valves and gas/liquid tanks in the most logical manner?

That does sound like something I can start to work on considering I'm at the point where I have a lot of mining to do in my Vulcan playthrough before I can show how I would set up my atmospherics there and I would need to do something about the H2 combustor there. As far as a distillation type system, is it a matter of how to get started? Depending on how much power you want to use on it and whether you can manipulate temperatures may affect overall how to build such a system.

Your videos explain the gist of things well, I guess. But as a newcomer and not engineer/programmer it is very difficult to put these concepts into practice when not building a mega base. Take my combustor problem: So, the combustor spits out a weird mix of exhaust gases and temperatures in the waste line fluctuate as well. So, I have a fairly hot mix of Pollutant, CO2, NI and even Nitrous in my mixed waste line. How do I manipulate the system, so that the Water I want can be siphoned off? If I use a condensation valve, I get a mix of the poison gases into my liquid line and Nitrous also condenses into the liquid tank no matter how I try to play around with pressures to keep it gaseous. So, is the only way to solve this manually playing with a pressurant valve and a different gas in order to get the pollutants out of the tank or am I doing it wrong? Would love some practical examples on liquid handling with a good explanation (that do not involve simultaneously setting up three cooling loops with condensation chambers that are super hard to follow for a newer player like me). Just some food for thought, maybe I am not the target audience and YOU have to do what you enjoy. Just putting in my two cents :) @@shadowdrake082

Another thing I really want to do and that you mention in your video is using phase change on the Mars atrmosphere. But how exactly would you build a starter system that uses vents and valves to condense pollutant possibly CO2 to get a steady trickle of O2 from the thin atmosphere? Maybe it would be fun for you to set up such a system and explaining the thought process? Let's call it a "no atmospherics units start" challenge :)

@@wowailyich615 I will say for hot gas in pipes, without a doubt it would be easy to use an atmospherics Filtration unit to separate it if the pipes temperature is >370C. But if that is not going to be an option, it will probably end up being quite an engineering challenge as you will need to cool down the gas mixture and get it to a specific pressure range for the desired gas to condense. But then it will be several steps to keep moving the gases from holding area to holding area, gradually bringing down the temperature while keeping pressure up to condense stuff you want to remove or want. As far as a liquid tank, that one might be quirky to clean if it has gotten dirty. I would think it would be like a hot gas filtration but in reverse as you use expansion valves and condensation valves to move only certain liquids around. The added challenge would be if the gas pipe network can handle the liquids as they are introduced, I will see if I can make something like this and show off probably one tool in the tool belt for usage.

No problem, While I cover a few topics, If I need to revisit a topic and go into a bit greater detail I can think about covering that again. I realize this is literally thermodynamics and 1 explanation may not be enough.

i have done some work as a math tutor and even then trying to convey the information in different ways is a challenge. maybe later in life i may end up being a teacher to pass my years or something, the technical, science, and math has always been a joy for me and it is nice to see it help people, even for a game about building stations and how not to blow up their pipe systems.
