My suggestion to a young man is marry well, and that doesn’t mean marry money exactly but marry someone who won’t spend all your money and is working with you to build a nest egg.

My grocery bill during Covid was about $60 a week. For the same items I am not hitting $100. I don't get a lot of high priced items either. Now I do ok and budget. How do people that don't budget or live paycheck to paycheck handling this?

Canadian real estate is most vulnerable to a significant downturn. Illiquid assets react last and take the longest to recover. Money on the sidelines should not bail out the weak hands but instead allow for desperation to set in for lower prices.

My rent went up $70/mo. Internet went up $20/mo. That doesn’t include anything else. $90/mo or $1080/yr. And that’s not a lot compared to some areas. I feel bad for people in higher population areas who make less than $70,000/yr.

spoke to my banker at TD Canada. zero new mortgages in past month. Folks are trying to refinance in big big trouble as rates have doubled. I agree 100% that real estate is going to drop MINIMUM 25% in next 2 years...likely 35%

No way it drops 35% from where it is now at least in Florida where I am located. I wanted to believe this as I am starting to get into real estate but it’s all supply and demand. So in order for prices to go down you need people to start moving not only out of the state but out of the US altogether or massive foreclosures which isn’t as likely as just about all homeowners are on fixed rates which wasn’t the case in the early to late 2000’s.

Short quiz- The market lost a large chunk beginning in Oct 1929. When did it recover back to the high of 1929? Answer: 1954. So if you want to retire in the next few years, could you do it if you lost 30% in the next 2 years and didn't recover until 2038? Oh, and in 15 years, it takes twice as much to live on.

How about $8 for 6 eggs or $16 for dozen in NYC from farmers market!! Absolutely true, food is thru the ROOF!! costco recent visit $500+ it is absolutely crazy how much inflation there is. My recent oil change on a van went from $46 for 5.5qts to $69 of course I am changing the shop but this just shows how much inflation is in the pipeline and already out there

Eggs are $9.93 for an eighteen pack at Walmart in Southeastern Colorado. Bread is cheap to make and better for you. I stopped buying $6 loaves of bread about a year ago. I whip my butter with a mix of powdered butter and a little bit of oil to extend it.
