And it's difficult to not feel worthless on such days because the world doesn't just stop with its responsibilities because you have no energy and it's painful just to stand up.

Again, I dont know your situation so I apologize if this is out of the question, but perhaps a foam roller or some yoga videos might help. Also, vitamins!! I take them and feel like I have more energy than I would otherwise. Really happy you could escape with this video though, hang in there!!!

Never understood why people spend hundreds or thousands a night on a hotel but really will only be there to sleep for 8 hours a day.

@@benghazi4216 Those hotels are plentiful in Japan. Look for 3 star tourist hotels like APA or Dormy Inn. Most are very clean, cheap, and you can get single bed rooms with an ensuite. The 3 star means that they usually lack restaurants etc, but they tend to be near train stations with hundreds of food places nearby.

@@benghazi4216 For purpose built hotels it is generally pretty good room to room. The newer the build the better. The larger hotels may have a lot of corridor traffic and door noise when busy though. The cheaper rooms will have views of a concrete wall next door but you won’t get street noise. This option is more than a capsule, but still cheap for inner city hotels anywhere in the world. There are also 2 star hotels intended for businesspeople that are a bit cheaper and more spartan. You roll the dice whether rooms will be smoky in business hotels though, especially in smaller cities.

@@Alfakkin honestly just after highschool I wanted to bicycle the path from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. Too afraid to camp alone, too broke to go alone stoping at hotel rooms. I would have used these. These are just trying to normalize this way of living.

Had a similar experience when I stayed in Paris as a teenager, and on top of that, my bed literally broke; I sat on the edge of it to put on my socks and the leg broke! I only weighed ~140 pounds, it was just a crappy bed.

@@Mrkti Yes, it would be interesting and helpful to see how big those rooms are. Remember, when the bed in the single capsule was unfolded for sleep, it basically took up the space. Imagine 2 people in a space barely big enough for both of them to move around in. Even for sleeping, to be shut in such a confined space with someone else would be a challenge for most people that are unaccustomed to such tiny spaces.

They also boil the eggs ever so slightly to kill whatever’s clasping onto the eggs. It’s so cool really.

From what I understand (and I could be wrong, as I am a lot when it comes to food), it's not that they clean their eggs well. It's more that the way they raise and farm their chickens results in eggs that have much less risk of salmonella from being consumed raw. If you raise your own chickens in a nice environment (and don't do it like the factory farms), then you should be able to eat their eggs raw too.

@@herren37 I’ve been working in hotels for almost 10 years. Many people call them home. If a hotel is more affordable than an apartment… I’d happily go with a hotel, even this size. Especially in Tokyo, Kyoto, Beijing, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Chicago, NYC.

@@meinakay It's not a myth. I was there a couple of years ago. People left their bikes outside the train station and not a single one was locked. I have never seen anything like it before. There are some thefts, but usually tourists. Some cultures are actually better at certain things. Japan is a homogeneous country. Something like 98% of the population are native Japanese. It is an ancient culture with very little dilution, unlike the US. That being said, it comes at a cost. They follow the rules, but they aren't exactly dancing in the streets with joy. Depression and social isolation are serious concerns.

Hostel beds not only have no locks, but they are even fully open. Millions live in hostels. So unlocked capsule is even more private/safe than a hostel.

I perfectly understand why places like this exist, and they're for travelers or businesspeople in transit with not a lot of cash who just want a clean and safe place to sleep for the night on the cheap. Poverty? Perhaps the poor sleep there, but so what? Like I said, as long as it's kept clean and hygienic, I don't see the problem. Some people have suggested that a shared bathroom or shower is gross -- what do you think the situation is when you go to a gym? Or any place with a public restroom? There will always be a place for luxury hotel accommodations at hundreds of dollars a night. But the fact is that Japan: A. doesn't have a lot of space and B. it has a lot of people in transit who need to overnight somewhere inexpensive. And you know what? I'll say this: That hotel is in far better condition and cleaner than a lot of more expensive AMERICAN hotels I've been in. You want unhygienic? Try visiting some roadside motel in Cali. or down South, where they never change the bedding and there's broken outlets and appliances.

Those who can't take care of themselves because of mental health and/or have substance abuse issues need more than a room. They need full-time hospitals with a knowledgeable staff

jeah this is not a classic capsule hotel. The name stated ... "pocket"... hotel. But for round about 15€ this is quite an option.

@@mortuus4601 I wasn't. I had been to Japan once before and knew the country is safe and (relatively) easy to travel in as an English speaker. You just need to rent a SIM card or pocket WiFi so you can navigate with your smartphone.

I dont know where you are from but hotel/food/public transport in Japan is a lot cheaper than it is in Europe especially the Netherlands. Cheaper public transport is a bit slower and you can have good meals for $5. It is not as expensive as it used to be in the 80-90 ties and you dont need to go on vacation as a backpacker or student either because that is even half that price, including an avarage hotel I spend max $100 a day but if I wanted I could do $60-70.
