Why won't you play War Thunder?
▪️ I raged at getting sniped by tanks that I could never see. Also nonsense like turning bushes off that helps you perform better. That seems like a terrible design to me. War Thunder also had drama several years ago about the CEO calling the fanbase to help strike down channels or using copyright strikes to eliminate channels entirely. That is such abuse of power and dictatorial nonsense that I refuse to play a game created by such a company.

True, funny how Bismarck can cause damage to another battleship’s Rudder, but loses it’s own Rudder gets destroyed by biplanes.

@@icetea1455 further investigation showed tye shelling only damaged her deck and caused minimum damage to tye hull *95% of her hull was covered by the citadel* so she was actually scuttled

@@cb7600 Hahaha, yeah right..... Bismarck's crew actually scuttled a 51000 ton mountain of sinking, flaming scrap metal. All guns silenced, her superstructure devastated, her main armour belt broken in several places along her port side, her command staff obliterated, internally aflame from end to end, her stern and port gunwales already underwater and hundreds of her crew already in the water behind her.... All the scuttling did was to sink her a few minutes earlier than was already happening. In the world of boxing the crew's scuttling efforts are what is known as "throwing in the towel", submission of a boxer when he has been punched senseless by a more powerful opponent, and only a fool would say, "the loser wasn't beaten, he gave in before he was annihilated.", when the truth is the loser had his arse handed to him on a plate. Pretty fun, but a an error when discussing North Carolina! She absolutely had the superheavy 16" rounds that the Iowas had. She also had a decent radar for targetting in 1941. Not the world's best, arguably only slightly behind Bismarck's except that Bismarcks system was sensitive and broke during his own maiden voyage.

Hm? I know that Bismarck had radar, but I've always read that the Allies had superior radar technology throughout the war. Seems odd for North Carolina to have less sophisticated radar, given that she was commissioned after Bismarck was sunk.

Great work, Stealth! A couple of small points on the North Carolina: 1) the 16"45 guns she was armed with could fire the super-heavy 2,700-pound shell 2) the firing rate on the 16"/45 main battery was 2 rounds per minute (per barrel). That means her rate of fire for this battle was _half_ of what it should have been.

True. North Carolina had the same rate of fire as King George V, despite having larger guns, and faster than Richelieu. Bismarck had a (theoretical) rate of fire far higher than any of them, though; 2.4 rounds per minute, apparently. That said, in reality, rate of fire isn't typically that important for capital ships, as they can rarely achieve their maximum in battle. At Denmark Strait, Hood and Prince of Wales fired much faster than Bismarck, for instance.

Also, I'm pretty sure NorCal's radar was superior to Bismarck's. I think the Allies in general had better radar systems throughout the war, actually.

@@Cailus3542 to add to this, NC was originally designed to have the 14" rifles and was armored against them. But when the escalator clause was invoked, she was up-gunned to the 16' /45 but the armor was still designed to be proof against itself, only 14" return fire.

@@imperiousrex128 You really don't know that. As far as we know, the German hardware was far superior than anything the Allies had. Even to this day, NATO is using weapons that are the evolution of the weapons the Third Reich engineers built. So it's safe to say that Bismarck had superior guns and radar.

i would love to see the Tirpitz versus the Iowa. The Tirpitz was the sistership of the bismarck which many people forget. it had torpedos at the side. it was just as beautifull of a ship as bismarck. In WW2 it was laying in the shores of Norway waiting for combat/missions but becuase of the lack of screen or escorts it never saw action. the british were desperate to sink it and designed a bomb jsut to sink it. to get the range for the bombers to reach denmark the british removed all guns etc from the bombers and send them out. The Tirpitz got bombed to its death defenseless because the Luftwffe wasnt present.

Just one correction, the tall boy bomb that was used to sink it was not designed for the Tirpitz, but it was so big and heavy it could break the sound barrier allowing its to penetrate its deck armor. The bomb that actually did the Tirpitz in went clean through the stern of the ship entering the water, the explosion was just so powerful that it actually launched turret no.3 into the air after exiting the ship.

3:10 North Carolina's guns have a rate of fire of 2 rpm, as she uses the 16"/45 Mark 6 guns. 3:46 North Carolina can fire super-heavy shells, as her shell handling systems were redesigned to use the Mark 8 shell before any of the Iowa-class was laid down.

At the 11:06 the Captain of the North Carolina is like; “Turn away from them” *A few minutes later* “Turn in towards them” *Not even a minute later* “Turn away from them” Also I don’t know if you take requests from the comments, but I would like to see HMS Belfast vs KMS Prinz Eugen.

North Carolina had a then state of the art reloading system it was technically an auto loading system

Yeah, the reload speed for both the NC and Montana videos have been extremely far off. I mentioned it on the last video but honestly improving the crew skill to simulate American FCS and help bring the reload closer to realistic is probably the only way to get a good representation of US battleship guns. Dreadnoughts really does not like Tri and Quad gun turrets.

@@Cailus3542 All BBs had a reload of about 30 seconds. Weight and size had no impact as the loading mechanisms and hoists were simply made bigger and better to compensate. German guns from the WW1 era and WW2 used sideways sliding breech blocks, hence their faster rate of fire. Realistically rof does not impact combat as ships don't fire as quickly as they can. The first dozen or two salvoes goes to establishing the range, hence the slow rof. Bismarck at the Denmark Straight avaraged one salvo per minut, despite her guns being capable of firing every 20s for the first few minutes. The system was not reliable enough to maintain such a high rof for long. And no, no auto-loaders were used on any of the US BBs, or anyone else's. They had a gun rammer, not an auto-loader. Ships like the Worchester and Des Moines were the first major warships in the world to have auto-loading guns.

@@violetvictoria9908well you don't exactly have to penetrate Yamato, just burn the crew and superstructure to the ground. As for how obsolete the turtle-back armor is, it sure did keep Bismarck alive for a long time.

So, this is entirely by eyeballing and idk if there are rules to this that I just don't know about, but the ships (especially capital ships) often look shorter than their real-life counterparts when you place the tonnage of the hull at the same tonnage as the reported tonnage in reality. So I've personally been giving the ships bigger hulls and then just matching the tonnage on the left to what it was in reality. I wish there was a length of ship stat that we could see so we could use that too. Anyways, I love this channel and only found it recently, but keep up the good work!

if you heard him at the start of the vid and looked at what he was talking about youd notice that NC has a higher tonnage compared to real life since the hull doesnt give less so adjusting doesnt work for her in this scenario

@@headshothunt3r414 I did see that, but in most of the vids I've watched from him, he doesn't move the tonnage up even if he is underweight. It gives a lot of room to help balance the ship better

According to an interview of someone that worked in the gun room "When were fresh, we can hop in here[the gun room]and make a load in about 14-16 seconds..." He goes on to say immediately after that drops off as you get wore out. On the 16-inch/45-Caliber Mark 6 specific wiki page it lists 2 rounds per minute as rate of fire.

Bismarck supposedly during sea trials managed to shoot 3 times per minute, so 23 second reload seems feasible.

I think he chooses the one that would be the most interesting, the only “Historical Encounter” he has done is The Battle of the Denmark Strait. All the other battle have been with fictional encounters and many other people like that (including me) so I don’t know what to say.

@@DemonHunter2271 Maybe this is just me, but I hardly think the USS North Carolina vs Bismarck would be interesting. Granted, my scenario had the most likes yesterday and still wasn't selected, but I could just be a bitter and pissy sore loser. 🤷‍♀ I am a firm believer that two groups of two sister ships built at different times with different parameters and styles would be more interesting than the USS North Carolina vs Bismarck.

As someone who has been on the North Carolina, I'm rooting for North Carolina. however like your last Iowa ships, the accuracy of the 16in are nerfed :( also, the Iowas damage control was very sophisticated. overall great vid on the best you could do

Yeah, at the time of this recording, the 16 inch cannons were still reeling from an accuracy nerf, so any critical penetrations are a hail-mary. 15 inch cannons meanwhile, are pretty damned reliable. I've had a lot of good luck with 15 inch doubles and even singles on some meme ships I've made.

For today I researched some informations about KM Graf Spee vs FN/MN Dunkerque. Why this ships you can ask. Well, Dunkerque was designed to counter German Deutschland-class cruisers. I dont know if 1 vs 1 is fair tho... Kinda glad it isn’t USS Alabama after seeing the whole displacement thing. Just wouldn’t be the mighty A if the secondary tower didn’t match. It would have the same exact displacement problem which is such a disappointment. Hope the devs fix that soon bc it just isn’t an ww2 American BB without that iconic superstructure covered in guns.

Bismarck with its super fast reload just had many more rolls of the dice to damage something important than NC while still having enough pen. Just look at that insane RNG of damaging the B turret and conning tower back to back in the second round

the all-or-nothing armor of american ships was meant to protect them from long range fire while the german turtleback armor becomes stronger at shorter ranges. fighting a german battleship at close range is pretty much suicide.

Besides the for-mentioned super heavy shells, the 30 second reload and the radar. NC also has slightly thicker deck armor 5.5in vs 5, maybe not enough to help in the fight but more correct. The Bismark also has slightly lighter shells than what you have listed. Not sure if the light shells would actually be correct on the version of UAD. I also believe the firing arcs are a little off because of the hull form. This seems to be a big issue in all the fights. One ship firing over its shoulder cant bring all guns to play.

Stealth, I wonder, does the AI act differently on different engagement ranges? So far on max range there seems to be always one ship that just wants to go home. In case you have nothing to do, does the North Carolina react different on different ranges? Does she react the same way if you repeat the same battle? (only the start of the battle is important here)

The one complaint I have with the layout of the NC is that the B turret needs to be a little more forward, it had a better firing arc than what is portrayed by this design.

Can you do the Kongo vs HMS Tiger. Kongo was built in the UK by Vickers as a private contract for the Japanese. The Admiralty were so impressed by the design they changed the design of the Tiger to incorporate a lot of the ideas from the Kongo. It would be interesting to see how they would fair against each other in an "as built" configuration.

The North Carolina was laid down in 1937 and completed in 1941. So you might have same as Bismarck had to set the date for the US to 1937 to get the correct towers. I don't own the game so I don't know what would be available in the 1937 US ship designer.

Funnily enough, Bismarck had lighter shells than that. the game put them at 820 kilograms, but Bismarck's SK C/34 15-inch guns fired 800-kilogram shells.

Nice video, but to be honest I was not surprised. North Carolina was build for the pacific. There you had long range Engagements. Thats why the ships had the all or nothing armor. The atlantic had total diffrent rules. There the ships engage in very close combat. Bismarck was build to brawl on short distances, that was the reason why she was build. North Carolina was build for long range fights so brawling simply was not her main job. Would be a shame if Bismarck lost a fight in a field where she is superior. If Norca could manage to hold the distance as long as possible while shooting Bismarck from distance with all 9 guns that battle could have ended diffrent.

The fact that you can miss Salvo after Salvo after Salvo at 1.5km is a problem I think. From the range you can practically boresight the ship. Those values don't make any sense.

You can't defeat turtleback at close range. Get close to Bismarck is suicide. There's a reason why the Brits couldn't sink her. They destroyed everything on top of the ship but couldn't cause flooding.

Scenario suggestion the year is 1944 you are a German admiral in command of making the largest ship in the navy because the previous ship was stolen by the pesky russians. Displacment max:130000 tons Tech germany 1940 enemy:US Engagment range is 15000m the enemy gets 2 battleships 5 light crusiers 5 destroyers 3 heavys and 10 transports you get 1 battleship and any class of your choice besides battleship.

I'd love to see one more round of this where you have NC fight at range against Bismarck, instead of moving in close to brawl. Bismarck's armor scheme was designed for close-range fights in the North Sea, whereas the AON scheme on the NC might be better suited for a long-range engagement. Bismarck's deck armor scheme (using multiple layers) was considered to be sub-par when compared to a single armored deck - not sure if the game reflects this accurately. Another issue is speed - NC would need to hit Bismarck hard early on to be able to stay at range, otherwise Bismarck can close and tip the scales in her favor. Finally, as others have mentioned, the firing rate of NC is probably much closer to Bismarck's than what you currently have it at. Good video and good matchup, overall. Keep up the great work!

I don't know if you know this, and I'm not hating on you, but saying "North Cal" or "South Cal" when talking about the Carolinas is uhh, well incorrect. North or South Cal actually refers to California. I would suggest if you want to shorten the title you could call it NC or SC, it's just a minor detail that my South Carolina ass was just a little stuck on😂 I love these videos though, keep up the great work!

Well, Let’s ignore the fact that North Carolina looks... And just focus on it being somewhat accurate in terms of stats... The towers on the North Carolina are far worse than the Bismarck’s (Top tier towers vs old 1920’s ones... The Iowa would have made a better North Carolina, still... Interesting fight Also, the Bismarck was designed for close range, so, along with the Turtleback, getting closer was probably the worst choice possible... Historically, I’d give it to the North Carolina... as long as you don’t do anything stupid...

I really think that the Americans are cursed in this game. AI is stupid as hell. I don't think that I have seen a single American ship win AI v AI. It is really a hard pill to swallow that the most powerful navy at the end of WW2 cannot seem to win a single battle in this series. Oh well just a game.
