One thing to know is no matter the wattage output of a battery bank or charger the Steam Deck will limit its charge input rate to 40 watts. If the Deck allowed you to charge faster than that it would risk damaging the battery and degrading the battery faster! Always remember that batteries degrade faster when fast charging but primarily if the battery is getting hot during charging. This is why Valve has the deck limit the input wattage.

thanks for the information, do you know if battery bypass come into effect when using a battery bank to charge the device? meaning does the device stop using energy from the battery to play games and instead used the power bank battery to power the device? looking to protect the actual device battery long term

@@RomiiPlays To make sure I'm answering your question right, I'm going to rephrase it before I answer. Basically, it seems like you're asking if while you're charging, once the battery gets up to 100%... Will the Deck use power directly from a power bank or the wall to directly run off of rather than it pulling off of its internal battery. So the answer to that question... No I do not know. However, I have seen plugins that seem like they would be able to do what you're asking if you wanted it. I get my Deck in two days so this Sunday May 28th(fingers crossed 🤞) and I'll be able to see if you can use a program to bypass charging the deck and have it run off wall power because this is something I was wondering myself and no one has seemed to answer.

@@RomiiPlays According to a Steam community post, the Steam Deck automatically handles overcharging. Once the battery is full it will automatically switch to passthrough mode and bypass the battery to run directly off of input power. It will also occasionally switch back to the battery if left on the charger for long periods just so the battery isn't constantly topped off¹. If this doesn't answer the question you were asking, let me know. Because I plan on doing further testing for myself to see if you can limit the charge level to like 80% and then have it run off a wall power after that.

@@Matty__Matt yes that is exactly what i meant to ask. Thank you very much for helping me find an answer i appreciate it. On reddit i found a few post saying the steam deck does have battery bypass when being charged via an outlet as long as the charging cable and plug supports more wattage then what is being used while playing. What i want to figure out is if its the same way when charged from a power bank rather then a wall outlet. as long as the battery bank supports a higher wattage will the steam deck be able to bypass its own battery and instead draw the power it needs to stay on from the battery bank, essentially ignoring its own battery for powering on. This would make portable play via battery bank so much better since you can maintain the health of the battery over time since you will be using the banks battery to use the steam deck. With the occasional use of normal gameplay without it being plugged just to keep the battery active and not constantly dormant this will extend the steam decks battery health. you will most likely know the answer before me as you will have a steam deck very soon. Hope you enjoy it!

Most people don't edit the tdp and settings to get maximum battery life. I get over 3 hours on dmc using 10 watts high settings

ive owned and used the baseus 100w for a few years now and i love it! you can charge three other things from it while it charges, like a usb hub. it does ultra fast charging too. best $70 ive ever spent!

It would be great if you could test the 65w one draining the deck until its 10% or so of battery, and then charging it with the 65w power bank WHILE PLAYING to see if its capable of doing at least one fully charge from 10 to 90+, because i think that should be the point of a power bank in a hanheld: to let you continue playing when the battery goes off and getting at least one fully charge while playing, to double the gamming time with it.

I’m pretty sure it’ll charge it a full charge one more time at least maybe 2 I play at work night and drain the battery at least once and I know it’s a power bank is capable of charging it at least one more time

Well being that it's a 20,000 mAh battery pack, it will be more than capable of fully charging a deck from dead to full. I felt that was sort of obvious so that's why I didn't test that necessarily in the video so I apologize!

@@VicariousNick55 Sorry, but it is not clear at all, that the 65w power bank can charge the SD fully. At 45w charging rate, most powerbanks are highly inefficient and waste a lot of power. In addition many powerbanks will stop charging at high voltages when the capacity hits a certain point. So it could stop charging, when it shows that there is say 20% left. So it would be very important to test that.

@@danielb6281 well it's been two days since I recorded this video and I've re charged my steam deck twice now (once from 20% and another from %40) and still haven't had to re charge the power bank so I hope that helps!

On the 65w there is a 40000mah version which is very worth it. These are great power banks! Plus if you scroll all the way down on that battery menu it will give you better details about the steam deck battery.

@@cargo4067 any under 27,000 mAh. I have one from anker called the PowerCore+ but it's an older model. They renamed their whole product line. Mine is exactly 26,800 mAh, just under the limit.

I have the black one and haven’t tested it extensively But I work overnights graveyard and play during my eight hour shift and usually come home with my power bank with some juice in it

Steam has said charging and playing has 0 I'll effects, it's designed to use battery when not plugged in but will basically use wall power/mobile battery when plugged in.

I use the 65w one and I also got the 100w walk charger. The steam deck supports up to 45w charging.

I have the Anker 87W 25600 mah power bank and it sucks. I get barely more than an hour of juice out of it when connected to the Steam Deck while playing. I shudder to think what these would get…probably 30 minutes.

I got the 30k version for Christmas and it broke the 1st time I plugged it into the steam deck and made a high pitched buzzing noise. After looking into it the company has a record of having their banks break after 3 months or so.

I have the smaller 65w 20k MaH one and its horrific. Takes straight up 3 days to charge. I wish I was joking. Then my Deck drains it in 30 minutes with heavy use. I HATE that product with a passion.

You might very well have a defective unit. My 65w 20k mAh only takes about an hour and a half to fully charge and I've been able to re charge my Deck almost 1.5 times before needing to fully re charge the Power bank

If the steam deck had at LEAST a 4 hour battery life I'd get one. My switch can play 3d games for around 4 1/2 to 5 hours. The graphics aren't as good but so what? If you're having fun, so what? You gotta downgrade all the settings on the steam deck to save battery life anyway and it gives 2 hours tops. The graphics are still better though, no denying that. I really, REALLY hope valve makes a better steam deck in the future cuz I want one. One that I can play for more than 2 hours on my days off from work before having to charge it. I don't wanna dock it lol.

I’ve been playing eso on high while running discord and I get 6 hours fully charged. Charging also takes about 30 minutes. Magnetic chargers work wonders on these guys and you can just get up and walk away if needed. Specifically the 7 pin chargers. Messing with power banks now to see if anything can get more than 6 hours haha

I would not recommend Baseus. Their products are very often defective. Especially powerbanks. I had once this Adaman powerbank and it failed in a month, also the first unit was defective as it was not charing / discharging correctly. Also I heard and seen several if not hundreds of reviews with similar issues and experience. I would recommend to buy Anker as they have a higher quality control and less likely to fail.

Basically the whole video is an advertisement for Baseus. Usually I really enjoy your videos and I do understand that you need money as well, but to be honest I don‘t see any advantage for me as a viewer from this video.

If it were a sponsored video (and they gave me a paycheck for it) I would have to legally say that it's a sponsored video. I didn't receive any payments from them, only the two power banks to test out for free. Based on other comments it seems that my video did help them in making a decision on if they should get a power bank for their steam deck or not so I wouldn't say that my video is the problem. However, I do apologize that it didn't please you as a viewer! Is there any questions that you may have about the power banks or the steam deck battery that I can answer for you here?

I‘m really glad that you answered as this shows that you really care about the community and their criticism :) I assumed that you would receive money for that video, because the brand was quite present in the video and therefore I got the feeling that it’s more like a paid promotion. But apparently that’s not the case. Maybe I felt that way because the topic is banal for me and in my eyes the video is quite long for that (and shows the brand quite often as said). I think that it would be enough to say that every 45W PD Powerbank should be good for the Steam Deck and that 20.000mAh @3.7V should be enough to charge the deck around 1-1.3 times. Anyway, as you said, there are people who found it useful, which is a good thing I suppose :)

This video was too long, and you didn’t even focus on if it was worth it. But I digress. I’m not sure who would go on a car trip, and not have a plug for it. I think that argument is out the window. But if you travel on airplain, I’m pretty sure the Power Bank your showing is too big. They won’t allow it on a plane. You’d be better off getting smaller banks, and carrying a few of them. But the Steam Deck is freaking awesome.

No, 2 hrs is NOT "on par with Nintendo Switch". The Switch OLED gets 5 (FIVE) hrs MINIMUM on max brightness for any game. Some games cross 10 hrs. So if you "agree with that" you do so in ignorance.

I owned Baseus 65 w power bank to charge my SD that i don't even use it much it was always at 50 % while started to charge so after 12 months while i wanted to charge my power bank smoke went out of the PB so i did contacted Baseus on amazon where i purchased it and they told me the warranty is 18 months great after sending them proof of purchase they told me well no sorry we can't help you so no more power banks from this chinese crap
