STEAM HEAT - Leaking Steam Pipe Repair

6 жыл бұрынYes, it is summer! You don't wait until it is winter again in order to fix your steam heat boiler system!
Now is the ideal time to do some repairs. Did you notice that you were losing steam pressure, or was your heating bill higher than usual?
Check your pipes for leaks and awkward noises. I found a leak, and in this video i show how i fixed it. So much more relaxing, when you know you have time to fix it, and nobody is freezing to death, because you take your time.
All what's left to do now is to re-adjust the pressure in the boiler once we start heating again.

Plumbers work with heavy tools often in tight, cramped and uncomfortable work spaces. God bless them, they are worth every penny.

(LIked) thank you for sharing must have been an old video those spider webs gave it away. (just Kidding) I am sure this will be helpful to one down the road. hearing the jack, and seeing the seal puddy great job. FISH

fishycomics not old. Noticed the leak last winter, but was afraid to lose heat for too long during the repair. On those old systems you never know what you open up. Rainy day yesterday, and I thought might as well fix the pipe. Those air leaks are really dangerous for the boiler , sucking in oxygen, destroying the boiler rather quick. The last one lasted 35 years... The new boiler I expect to outlive me!

Nice to see I am not the only one who works on his 108 year old steam lines. Mine carry hot water now, not steam.

I have a "Tee" from a hot water boiler right in the middle of a ceiling in a commercial building. 2 1/2" pipe. I am really puzzling over this one. I think the Tee needs to be removed and replaced. I think it will need to be cut out. I can't imagine removing the pipe sections to remove it. I don't think there are any unions to provide for that approach for this job. So what I was thinking was to cut and try to thread in the ceiling and add unions there.

If you don't know how to do it, be careful, those pipes are heavy!

@@mygiguser Well, they are well supported, so that shouldn't be the challenge. I am just wondering about the rigidity. In Residential applications, the pipes move this way and that. The drawing together of the piping with the union is a good example. You can draw up a quarter inch or so. Not sure how that would work with a more rigid installation. And have you ever heard of doing a pipe threading in place?

It seems unusual you were able to remove them without cutting it out & with that tiny wrench.

No magic here, what you see is what happened. The tiny wrench did it.

Should have put thread sealant on the face of the union
