Thank you for the explanation. Very informative video. I wasn't familiar with steam heaters al all.

Very helpful. I just installed new vents today and I have no idea how to go about balancing the system. Thanks for posting.

I know that you can prep those radiators up to run on hot water just like baseboard heaters instead of steam. I've seen it done.

Only if it has an upper manifold which most steam rads don't.
@davidisabella67505 жыл бұрын
If not, you can modify it to a two-pipe radiator. You'd solder copper pipes to them and use a thermostatic valve.

Sounds like work. I've seen them with bleeders on each section but thats a cobbled fix. Would like to see one you mention.

@@davidisabella6750 thanks, but that is a dual manifold rad. The old single manifold rads can't be converted like that. There is no way for the water in each section to circulate.

I change the valve but when i put in 7 water comes out from the valve

Thanks - helpful guidance. I live in a four-story 16 unit building with single-pipe steam, and we are trying to “tune” the system, which I gather means that the mains should be well-vented and the radiators furthest from the boiler (ie, top floor, and the end of each riser?) should have vents that allow them to vent faster than the radiators closer to the radiator, as you’ve outlined?

where's the best place to purchase varies size/types of air valves?
@xan81854 жыл бұрын
my landlord said to keep the varivalve midway between open and closed he didn't explain why. He keeps the thermostat in the hall at about 70 degrees, but my apartment radiators don't go on with the exception of one. It's frustrating to have to call him with the same issue and no resolve. I don't mind 70 degrees but when most of my radiators don't turn on because the hallway is warmer and shuts off before i can get some heat...what am I left to do but keep complaining?

Landlord is trying to skimp on his gas bill. OPEN the valve all the way.

Did you turn off the heat when you changed the valves? Need to install the same valves.

Is the varivalve supposed to be dispelling droplets of water?

On the first valve is the high number or low number closed
@NYCDadd5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the bigger numbers give greater air flow. An easy way to test is to unscrew the valve and blow through it to see what gives you the most flow.
@blg0205 жыл бұрын
@@NYCDadd so would greater air flow cause the radiator to heat up more.
@NYCDadd5 жыл бұрын
@@blg020 Yes, more airflow means more steam flow which delivers more heat to the radiator.

What about a two-pipe system?
@NYCDadd10 ай бұрын
Sorry. I only have experience with a single pipe system.
