Steam Locomotive Pulling Train With 3 Passenger Cars & Caboose On Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad. This steam train is is Lebanon Ohio on an ex Pennsylvania Railroad branch line. This is a real steam engine that burns coal. The locomotive is owned by the Gramlings from north east Indiana and it travels around to various tourist railroads and Railfan events. It is shipped by truck and makes it to Lebanon once a year for two weekends. It is an 0-4-0T built in 1928 and runs about 3 miles from Lebanon towards Mason and then comes back. This video will show it leaving the Lebanon train station and railroad yard, crossing a few interesting railroad crossings and then returning into the station in town. The railroad crossings are all cross buck protected except for one that has flashing lights. The caboose is an old Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad caboose. You can rent the caboose on the train for $300. Tickets for the passenger cars are $18 for seniors and children and $20 for adults up to 62 years old.
The steam engine is Jeddo Coal Company #85. It was built in 1928 and used in mining operations until 1964 when I became 3 years old. The coal burning locomotive weighs 41 tons and is the worlds largest operating steam locomotive. No, wait a minute, I was thinking about the Big Boy. The Big Boy #4014 is the worlds largest operating steam locomotive, not the #85. If you were to line up both locomotives nose to nose, you can actually see a difference. #85 was here in Lebanon last year also so check out my video of it from 2022. Better yet, see my Steam Train playlist and spend a day watching all the different steamers that I have filmed. The Big Boy. Speaking of the Big Boy steamer, check out my videos of it in Utah, Wyoming and Missouri.
When railfanning the Lebanon Mason Monroe Railroad the best frequency to use is 161.385 and they so use it quite a bit.
Filmed Saturday, August 5, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps on my #3 camera. Thanks for watching!

Great video JT! As always you do a fantastic job. I really like your reactions and comments. I also like the information you always give us about the locations where you film and other things. Always interesting. Your videos are never boring! Loved watching that mighty little steam engine. And nothing compares to a old steam whistle! Speaking of comparison, I liked that shot of the steam next to the Nickle Plate Road engine. That diesel made the steam look tiny! LOL JT, you are great. Please keep up the great work!!!!

I am 81 years old and live in Lebanon 1952-1958 and in the area till 1960 when I joined the USN. Just a few blocks from our house on Main Stree there was a railroad crossing ahd the running joke was the trains where Try weekly as the would try to get through once a week. I remember my Grandmother telling about when she was young they would dress up and go into the City (Cincinnati). I also remember you had three ways to travel, 1. Train, 2. Bus. 3. Air and as a sailor I added a fourth way, HITCHHIKE>.

Drive about 2 miles down that highway in the direction you were filming that train and there is an old railroad diamond on the left about 25 yards off the road. Have you ever been there? I don't remember it. The only time I ever rode a steam train was back around 1963 or '64 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at a tourist attraction called the Rebel Railroad. Us kids got these fake Winchester rifles that you could actually cock and shoot at the bad guy actors in Old West and confederate clothes. They would "attack" the train as it went by. I remember I pointed my rifle at this man and his pants fell down and he had these big, polka-dotted bloomers on under his pants. It was funny. Rebel Railroad turned into Goldrush Junction which turned into Silver Dollar City which has turned into Dollywood. All in the same place. Thanks so much, JT. I appreciate what you do, man. It's awesome. 👍‍🚂 🇺🇸

Amazing video of such a hard working, little tea pot engine. Glad that there was no inclines on that run. There appears to be some sort of up and down oscillation in the engine and was wondering if that was the trackage, the load, or just the short wheel base of the engine. Either way, a great video of old railroad technology.
