I wrote this goofy song in 1982 at age 15 after seeing a story on Entertainment Tonight about a trend in music dubbed "recession rock" which included songs such as Billy Joel's "Allentown" and Paul McCartney's "The Pound Is Sinking". This is my demented contribution to that little noticed and quickly forgotten movement. Working In A Coal Mine meets Allentown.
Years later I read an article in the AJC about the impending sale of the Atlantic Steel Mill property in midtown Atlanta and decided it would be a good excuse to make a music video for posterity. The song was re-recorded in 1990 on a 4-track cassette deck and the video was filmed on Super8 in 1991 and '92.
Most of the footage was shot at Atlantic Steel (now the site of Atlantic Station) with a few scenes filmed off of East Ponce in Scottdale, GA.
