I am so excited to finally see some videos for learning to ski steeps. So many videos focus on carved turns on groomers. I am a pretty good skier and can handle most any black run but totally fall apart on double blacks. Now I finally know why. I have been trying go carve turns and get going way too fast. I am really excited to see this series of videos and hope to finally overcome my problems with super steep runs. Makes total sense now that I hear an expert explain it. Thank you !

Thanks for your series of sessions for steep slopes. I began to ski in porte du soleil area one month ago, and thanks to your videos, I can come down from any kind of black piste from porte du soleil.

My boot stiffness rating is 100. They flex well in warmer temperatures and at the beginning of the ski session. As the temperature drops they become like rocks.

This videos has helped so much with a ski boot flex debate. Could I ask what is your height & weight and what flex are those ski boots? Thanks for the great vids.

Nice video. You talk about flex, but wondered if you had noticed difference with the swing weight and length of skis?

Thank you for this amazing video! One question: is the ankle reflex you explained the video related to the "FleX index" of ski boots? Do harder (and presumably for more advanced) ski boots make it harder to make this move?
@TheSkiAcademy
@TheSkiAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
A bit of both. There is the natural range that you have in your ankle joint outside of a ski boot and how mobile you are through that movement. Then there is the flex index of the boot. It's important that both of these factors work well together. So for example a bad match would be if you have an immobile or weak ankle joint but a high rated flex index of a boot, that combination would be difficult to get the most out of your equipment and body.

When you start your hop, which leg should you use to pump yourself up? Downhill or uphill?

Thanks for the nice video! What flex index would you recommend for this type of skiing? With 80-90 flex boots I find myself jumping in between turns almost involuntarily, while stiffer boots with ~110 flex index don't allow me to do the same (but I feel much more aggressive on those)
@TheSkiAcademy
@TheSkiAcademy 7 жыл бұрын
Ideally, a slightly stiffer boot would be better as it will allow you to take bigger shocks and deal with the increasing forces around you.

Good video but that backpack places the weight higher and impacts the center of mass negatively.
@MrDogonjon
@MrDogonjon 4 жыл бұрын
Why demonstrate with a back pack. All your examples wear back packs too. Back packs make you rotate defensivly because the mass affects your balance rearward. you compensate by rotating turns.
