Everything is good, but before doing any job I think Risk Assessment, toolbox talk, checklists needs to be done/filled. For orals, saying this before any answer is very important. 2. For preparing Drydock, the first thing in the answer should be management meeting, going through jobs first required as per PMS, start preparing Drydock specs, tally DD specs of engine and deck to ensure that same job is not overlapping. After that all other thing. 3. Also in your other video you told that in case of engine room fire Chief Officer will be leading the emergency/ attack team, but with no disrespect, I think it will be 2 ND Eng who will leading the emergency team in case of engine room fire, since he is more well versed with the engine room rather than the chief officer. Anyways nice informative videos. Thanks.

We have a similar approach with regards to fire fighting in the engine room, where the fire party consists of engine room personnel, this being for the knowledge of the area and their close proximity. The problem about this thought is that in most emergency circumstances of an engineroom fire, there is a very high probability that crew will be involved the the fire and would be needing rescue. For this reason both fire parties conduct the same exercise during the drill as both have to be proficient. With regards to dry dock, from past experience it is recommended to keep a list of manholes, plugs, tank lids and confined area spaces which have been opened and when they have been closed. The chief officer might need to be replaced (not recommended but accidents do happen) or the work load of the dry dock is big so things might be forgotten. Make sure that if different departments open up such areas the chief officer is notified as to update his records. I would like to ask a question, gangways, fire fighting water mains and shore power, when should they be set up? Some dry docks try to give such services when the vessel is on the hard all ready. One other question, with regards to work on board vessel during dry dock, under who’s authority does the safety of the shore based workers fall once on board? Do the dry dock safety officers have the rights to issue permits to work, entry in confined space, hot work permits and all other permits which make part of the ISM code? Should they request for permits from the master? This is quite a grey area where on board we insisted that such works were only possible when given the go ahead but he master but we ended up ended up finding jobs being done after fire alarms were set off by drydock workers. In such cases what would be the correct action to manage such non compliance’s. Thanks for the valuable material you constantly supply us with.
