What I don't understand is why Forest bought 42 players when PL rules state you can only name 25 for the season, so signing 17 players more than you can field is just lunacy and they only have themselves to blame
@MelGilbert
@MelGilbert 2 ай бұрын
42 players was the number of in's over the last two seasons. You have to bear in mind that Forest had 5 loan players who went back and another 12 out of contract at the end of the promotion season. Several others weren't considered, rightly or wrongly, to be good enough so we essentially had to build an entire squad. Even with the players we had our squad valuation was just 12 million when we were promoted and we were expected to compete with the likes of the top six who all have squads valued in excess of a billion. Nobody expected us to get promoted; it came out of the blue, especially since we had been rock bottom of the league after seven games before Coops was hired. Even the mid table clubs have squads worth many times the value of ours, even after Marinakis spent all that money. The rules were originally supposed to avoid teams having an unfair advantage but ironically they have accomplished the exact opposite. Why can all established Premier League teams lose up to 105 mill over a three year period when promoted teams like Forest can only lose 61? And if you say "but they are the rules" then I think I'll scream because that's the whole point, the rules aren't fit for purpose. Forest would have been a good 10 mill within the limit if they were tasked with the same losses as every other team, as in Everton. The new rules proposed are meant to accomplish two things: to solidify the top six's strangle hold on the nation's game and to create an amnesty for Man City and Chelsea (as well as possibly Man U I hear who might also be in trouble) so their transgressions can conveniently get swept under the rug. Please don't tell me no-one's palms are getting greased here.

What is abundantly clear is that the PL is predicting what mitigation might work and then asking for points deductions based on what might work in mitigation. That’s not how mitigation works and none of these numpties is addressing that point. In a criminal case you might get 10 yrs when the maximum is 14yrs. The judge doesn’t give 14yrs expecting the mitigation to drop it. 8 points deduction is 1 less than liquidation of the club. Why is that the PL starting point? Because they expect it to be reduced and demand more accordingly.

I think apply points deduction so apply at the the start of the current or next season. You should start off with -10 points. Playing a entire season and then randomly deduction point and potencially decided who get relegated is to messy. Especailly if they appeal and it get reduced and now another teams get relgated becuase of the appeal & reduced points. Account end june. you should get 1 season & the summer to investigate & appeal. Then the dediction to be applied when the season starts.

Just on the European Super League, the top clubs weren’t going to leave the Premier League, they were going to leave the Champions League, so we’d still be playing them each week but we’d have no way to compete in Europe because that was a closed shop. Seems a common misconception that the clubs wanted to leave their domestic leagues, a misconception pushed quite a bit because it caused more uproar against the idea, some wilful misunderstanding if you like. However we’d be stuck playing the top 6 and trying to compete with their finances.

I agree that Marinakis/accountants messed up. But I disagree with the whole "It was a commercial decision to not sell Brennan in the January Window" thing. If we sold Brennan then, we were going down. Taiwo Awoniyi was out injured, as he is indeed made of biscuits. He got the goals during that period by and large, and played a massive part in keeping us up. My other view on this is as follows. You're Evangelos Marinakis, the club you own arguably got promoted a season too soon, and you're struggling to keep your head above water in the PL. Do you just meekly accept your fate of going back to the Championship, or double down and spend the money in order to have a cat in hell's chance of staying up? Which is the better business decision? Given that the club get a fortune for every season in the Prem, notwithstanding the boost to the city and general uplift to the mood of the fan base, are we so surprised that the Big Fat Greek went for it?

Let's be honest the commission at the Premier League is absolutely inept, they are under huge pressure to get these sanctions that they set theirselves and are panicking, and this filters down. The PGMOL also don't have a clue and you can see with the changes in the rules every year, which only confuses the fans and puts their referees in comprimsing positions when big decisions are needed to be made, regarding rule changes.

@@lilbaz8073I did watch the video & yes Borson says that Everton's appeal barrister calls Everton's previous information "misleading". But that could mean any number of things. As a simple example, a policeman can burst through my front door & announce that I'm in the process of committing a crime. I say "nonsense!". He then observes that Parliament passed a law the previous week to criminalise the holding of a pencil. I am then obliged to retract my previous statement. I don't trust Borson & it has less to do with his reporting of Everton's case & more that he insists Everton & Forest both deserve what they get. He adds that he is certain that Chelsea are also guilty as sin. But when asked about his former employer, he claims every charge against City is a witch-hunt. I have read enough from other sources (such as Henry Winter, who is an Arsenal fan, not an Everton fan) to believe that Everton have been used as a guinea pig & that their case has been & continues to be mischaracterised by ppl like Borson.

Everything said it was still hugely unfair towards Everton that Nottingham Forest were deducted only 4 points as their case in principle was comparable to the one Everton had in the first place and for which they were ultimately deducted 6 points. Everton's final verdict should of course have been used as the precedent and benchmark for Forest's punishment. As it wasn't, there haven't been equal treatment between the two clubs and that is unjust. If Forest do make an appeal, that surely can't result in any point given back, because then the injustice would be even greater. And after this inconsistent and unbalanced Forest verdict, surely Everton must not get any points deducted at all, not even 1 point or 2 points, as the decision for their second charge. Anyway Everton have a strong case defending the second charge, with many mitigating facts (also cooperation now) and most of all the double jeopardy claim, as they have already been punished two thirds of the time period by that first sanction of 6 points. If Forest had got, as should have been, a 6 points penalty, then Everton would probably have accepted a 1-2 points sanction for their second charge. But after the Forest verdict, there must not be a single more point taken away from Everton. Otherwise we can conclude that the Premier League and its commissions are biased, even corrupt, and surely not fit for purpose.

fans just really dont get it, Chelsea will have their day of reckoning in June unless they sell players for 100m of profit. They have amortised the transfers over very long contracts which is great if the player is a success but a millstone if they flop. City have dragged their feet with the best lawyers money can buy there is a date set now but dont expect them to be in league 2 next season. Everton have been mismanaged by an absent owner who banked on Oligarch money to fill the gap. Forrest signing 30 players was a joke even though when they came up they didnt have a squad but there was no need for that level of investment paying Lingard almost 300k a week to warm the bench is 15m down the drain and when you look at the breach that covers most of it, totally self inflicted and as Stefan said they were warned repeatedly but at that time no club had points penalty so Maronakis thought he would get away with 5m quid fine.

Sack ffp off completely. How tf is it fair that Chelsea and City were able to make themselves super clubs, then the door slams shut and no one else can ever get that opportunity? Let's be real, the only chance you'll ever get at seeing your club become successful consistently is if you can at very least compete financially with the likes of the big 6. FFP is doing nothing but stop clubs that could potentially compete financially, like newcastle or villa from being able to bridge the gap. I see absolutely no need for ffp. Let owners and clubs spend to their means like the big 6 basically can anyway and like city have been doing since their takeover...

Interesting how he jumps through hoops to say why Forest had to do this and that due to promotion etc but there is never any allowance cut for exceptional circumstances that affected Everton - sanctions on our Russian backer which impacted sponsorship, losing a £40m+ player for free due to a moral decision relating to his court case and us building our new stadium. Jordans another one who loves to bang on about rules are rules, hammering Forest. Rules are rules which are rigged in favour of those at the top. Just like these new ones they will transition over to. All based on the already rich and powerful clubs staying that way with little help for the Burnley's and Bournemouths to ever close the gap.

I’m sorry but for me they just need to take their medicine and move on. The idea that the deadlines should just be changed so they can earn more money is absolutely ludicrous. Very simple analogy. Self employed people put in a tax return every year. It’s extremely clear what the rules are. HMRC says filed and received, and payment made by 31st January 11:59 PM. So, if we miss that deadline, unless there’s substantial mitigation, for which there can be allowances, we would be punished. You are a business. Your account handling is your own responsibility. Forrest can’t just say ah well we wanted more money so we ignored the deadline. Fact is - regardless Of the need to spend as much as they did when they come up into the premier league, if they’d sold Johnson within the deadline, to one of the teams who had made an offer then they wouldn’t have breached. We need to be clear on rules and punishments for said rules. And allowances were made for the restrictive budget of the championship, and their cooperation, that has to be book closed. Appealing would be utterly pointless imo. It risks not knowing who was relegated on the final day of the season and for what. Just to kick the can down the road. Anyway, just my thoughts. I would like to think if even one of Man City’s charges is found guilty. Massive repercussions should follow. We will watch closely. Same with Chelsea too.
