Radical Hill is a narrow and dangerous shelf road trail located in Summit, County Colorado. In this episode, Todd and I conquer this amazing Colorado high country trail. Todd is driving his Ford F-150 on 35” mud tires, Brandon joined us for Webster Pass and then the first obstacle in his Lexus GX-470 on 33” tires and my Jeep JKUR is on 35” tires. This trail is narrow but only for one little spot and it definitely isn’t as narrow as Devil’s Punchbowl trail or as intimidating to me as Black Bear Pass.

This is my favorite off road video. No loud music, you can hear the tires gripping for traction... it just feels like I’m there with you on the trail.

I did this trail last Sunday. It will absolutely test your comfort zone. When we reached the top, there was about a dozen white mountain goats. That made it worth the climb.

Man that off camber at the 9:00 mark! Def need to put this one on the list to do! Drone footage was epic!

Thanks! That spot at 9:00 really just looked worse than it was. Even the supposed off camber spot before that wasn’t bad, but that’s just me. Stacy didn’t come on this trip or I would have had her spot me out the passenger window and I would have put my passenger tire closer to the edge, out of the rut and up on the bank. I think my Jeep sits a little tall with 3.5” lift and 35s and it felt good to me. It’s a great little trail! Thanks for watching. - Geoff

😂 Shelf roads are always like that! To be honest, I was pretty spooked before we ran it. The “tippy spot” that everyone complains about was not bad at all. The actual shelf road portion wasn’t too bad either. It’s narrow but short. I’m glad I checked it off the list but I don’t have any desire to run it again really. It’s worth running though. Radical Hill has always evaded me due to snow or other people in the group not wanting to run it. Devil’s Punchbowl is definitely more narrow and way longer. It’s not as bad as Black Bear or Devil’s Punchbowl. - Geoff

For me, the order of worst to easiest as far as scariness goes: 1 Cliffhanger in Moab. 2 Devil’s Punchbowl. 3. Black Bear. 4. Radical Hill. We haven’t ran Blanca yet but I heard those little shelf sections are spooky

I finally found your channel again. I started a little for fun channel here on the east coast jeepNdirt and was motivated by the areas you cover. I thought I had subscribed but evidently I didn't LOL. Glad I found your channel again. I'm trying to get out west to do these type of trails for my channel. I spent some time out there a few years ago on my Adventure motorcycle (BMW R1200GSA) but it was too big for me to tackle some of the trails you highlight. The whole time I was wishing I had my jeep. LOL. Great stuff man. I'm now subscribed.

Just to show its more about the line you take than tires or vehicle or even if you have lockers.. that guy in F150 knows what he's doing or maybe just drunk.. probably both lol I see his hood up at the top
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 11 ай бұрын
Yep. I agree with you 💯. It’s not the rig! It’s the driver and Todd is totally sober. He just flat gets after it. He successfully made it up Hell’s Gate without pulling cable, no lockers, by himself on his first Moab trip. People make too much fuss about gear but they don’t even care to learn how to drive, spot or understand lines. I love seeing different rigs wheeling. I get tired of seeing the same Wrangler over and over again. Think about that group of guys that wheel stock Willys military Jeeps on the hardest trails around including Penrose. The one guy said “I love running Pritchett and seeing a Jeep with beadlocks, 40s and one ton axles struggling on an obstacle and I pull up in my Willys. This guy spent more on his wheels and tires than I did on my rig and we’re on the same trail” 😂😂😂

No stone cold sober !! Just on Red Bull and adrenaline. We left out of Denver at 98° and we had dust devil's forming from the heat that day near the meet up. We drove nonstop to the trail then ran to 12,625 feet atop Teller Mountain. When I run high trails I pop the hood and keep it running it cools the engine and transmission. It didn't need it but it's habit. The truck was cool and no problems whatsoever. It's Ford Tough !! 😂

@@Iceman_777 Awesome brother! Getting it done in the F-150. Just goes to show, most of high mountain passes can be knocked out in most 4WD vehicles, even a Subaru haha. I used to own a 2001 Dodge Ram 4x4 with lunchbox lockers front and rear (lockright's). It would go anywhere my Jeep goes. I don't suppose you could upgrade the F150 front diff to something like that...
@Iceman_777
@Iceman_777 11 ай бұрын
@sinepari9160 Nice rig !! The front diff is a 8.8 ifs it's pretty stout and has not failed me including the CVs. It doesn't have alot of options but a lunchbox locker could go in it but I've been told it might break the aluminum axle tube. I'm installing a rear locker soon. My plan is to convert the front to solid axle Dana 60 with a mechanical locker and leaf springs but not sure when.
@sinepari9160
@sinepari9160 11 ай бұрын
@@Iceman_777 Yeah just a rear locker would go a long way.. I've never modded an IFS front so I wouldn't even know the options. I have a 2016 ram powerwagon along with the '20 Wrangler JLUR, both on 37's with 4.56 in the truck and 5.13's in the jeep. It's pretty cool you wheel that regular 4x4 F150.. they must be tough as hell! An 8.8 is actually stronger than the dana 44. Never knew they put the 8.8 ring gear in the front IFS of Fords.
