@@jackfoley2542 It's Ferrari derived but it's NOT a Ferrari which is the problem. The market/clientele for these expensive cars is vey small. Many(most?) people nowadays aren't very "emotional" about car brands and might not even know this brand name anymore. A carbon fiber drive shaft saves weight. Rated more highly than the BMW 3 series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C class by owners and JD Power. $1.3B factory in Italy has 1400 robots and is state of the art. I drive an Alfa, you drive SUVs so I don't think you know what you're talking about here. Alfa had terrible reliability issues in the 1980s, not now. In the late 90s the 156 and then the 147 turned Alfa around, both winning European Car of the Year. The Guilia is, in my opinion, the best looking sedan on the road. You are correct, they are not selling enough to make a profit. I also think Stellantis has too many brands and is sticking with a strategy of offering multiple options when a more streamlined offering would produce greater economies of scale. I suspect they fear losing sales by cutting brands/models/variants. Some years ago the head of Stellantis predicted that there would eventually be only 5 car makers. I think technology has made it easier to share a platform between brands reducing the cost of variants so it's not so hard to have lots? Their strategy has been for Alfa to be their prestige brand and I believe they were going to go all electric. If they go electric I would be very interested in getting one.

The problem with Alfa Romeo's is that they have high rpm engines which will fail over time due to heat stress as well as have a Reliability Index of 214, which is very low. Some people buy Alfa Romeo's because of nostalgia, but when the cost of repairs and parts come in due to the frequency of repairs that will wear of. If you look at the depreciation of Alfa Romeo Giulia it will depreciate 44% after 5 years, which is terrible!

I'm definitely against selling brands, if China wants a new brand, then invent one. I find it rather annoying having to check into a vehicle brand just to find out who now owns it and where they are now made. For example I recently got a bit excited hearing Volvo starting to talk EV, and seemed to be going places unlike other older brands, only to have it all kind of backfire when I learned it's now just another Chinese special. Now I don't have anything in particular against the Chinese, I just want to be able to select a brand and know what I'm getting.

It is a disgrace that storied brands, like Jaguar, MG, and Volvo -- brands that struggled to build themselves from the ground up and invent the car industry -- have been sold to nations that have not built a brand anyone desires but who think they can buy themselves a place in a great history. It would be like me buying an ancestral name and title. It happens. But it is never to be respected or admired on either the part of the buyer or the seller. The Japanese didn't do this. Lets get the facts straight...shall we. I now own a Tesla Model 3 2023 - but my previous car was an Alfa Romeo Guilia 2019 - a great car - (sports sedan - not SUV crap) & it won car of the year in Europe. My Model 3 effectively looks like an electric Guilia. Every one that had a ride in it (my Guilia) was amazed how good it was and how well it was made - almost eaxactly the same performance as my Model 3. FYI - (for the ignorant folk), Alfa (Stellantis) built a new billion Euro factory in Italy to make it (all new Alfa's really) and even grabbed several Toyota QMS staff and borrowed 2 x Ferrari engineers (part of Stellantis) to make sure it was "GREAT AS WELL AS RELAIBLE". Yep - I had it for 4.5 years and did not have one issue with it - yes, a perfect record 65,000km. People are way out of touch if they think Alfa is still unreliable...yes you ignorant people who make ill-informed statements that are not factual. I just retired and have had many many brands of cars since my first Datsun 1600 in 1974. Even raced my JPS BMW at Mallala with JR back in the day, when I was a Air Force pilot (80's). So I actually know what I'm talking about, unlike most of you... Now if you are really objective - like I am - then you will accept my word for it. This method of selling cars that are perceived to be long held by certain Countries, is a big tactic being used by Chinese. So, Chinese Car Companies and individual Chinese billionaires now own major stakes in many, many "old" Companies. EG. Chinese interests own approx 17% of Aston Martin. Plus an increasing % of Daimler (Mercedes). Of course, as you stated, they already own controlling interest in MG, Lotus, Volvo, Polestar, so will pick off a number of other smaller Car Companies. There are dozens of them! Alpha Romeo just happens to be one of many they will pick up. The interesting part is that the Chinese Companies will close off the diesal productions and also diminish the ICE production slowly to zero. They will introduce their New Energy Vehicles (BEV's and Hybrids) and badge them with the "old" Companies names/brands.

Considering how MG has been accepted in Europe, while Chinese brand names have not been selling too quickly, it is a really great idea for a Chinese company to buy a famous brand like Alfa Romeo. Legacy automakers failed to electrify and a lot of them are going to go bankrupt. A Chinese company could actually help revive the company and breathe new life into it.

@AWildBard
@AWildBard Ай бұрын
@@MultiMenvafan I kind of understand wanting to support US companies if you are American. But do they support US citizens? I don't think so. Why is China becoming a manufacturing leader? It's because genius US and European CEOs destroyed the American manufacturing to make a few extra dollars and have a yacht measuring contest. In order to stop paying US workers, they sent the manufacturing to China. And China took it as a challenge. Then, China saw the obvious future that everyone that's not sticking their heads in the sand can see. We need to work overtime to solve climate change caused by fossil fuels. And this is a huge opportunity for anyone and everyone who takes that seriously and engages in creating solutions. China built solar power manufacturing and they now are selling and installing like crazy all over the world. They built battery manufacturing and auto manufacturing and computer and smart phone manufacturing. They have a good education system churning out engineers like crazy doing serious research and development. They are building EVs and creating policies to encourage EVS and discourage ICE vehicles. China is kicking ass and it's because genius American leaders for generations decided to get rich while undermining the US middle class and destroying unions and suppressing wages for 60 years. The genius politicians and CEOs decided to stick their heads in the sand and pretend there will never be any challenge to their geniusness. Now we are on the brink of fascism. Great job. To now complain about China is really wierd and insane to me. Who gave China the opportunity? Who is the enemy of the American middle class? It's obviously The CEO class and the politicians they own. How is blaming China for their success going to help Americans. It's not helping at all. Do you really think that not buying Chinese is even possible? Good luck with that. You would have to undo 50 years of economic policies. Which I am in favor of. But blaming China is a huge mistake instead of recognizing the opportunities and working to capitalize on them. Your comments remind me of what people used to say about Japanese products in the 70's. "I'll never buy that Japanese junk!" People used to say that all the time, and what happened? Japanese automakers have been dominating ever since. China prepared, and now they are about to dominate in electric vehicles. The die is already cast for at least the next decade. The only company that is seriously trying hard to compete in the electric vehicle space is Tesla.

I understand that you are playing the game of being polarizing to create noise/views and engagement. I´ll bite here are a couple of things for you to consider in case you want to have some reflection on what you are doing (optimistic me). 1. Stellantis is a huge company, much more difficult to manage than a relatively new one like tesla when you consider the complexity of being an incumbent with all the problems and baggage of mergers and transioning from ICE to EVs instead of EV from the start. 2. try to find an KZfaqr/reporter that does not agree that the Giulia, Stelvio and 33 Stradale are AMAZING Cars. Respectively the last 3 launches. 3. You say a lot of fake "you don't know" to insinuate negative things when one would expect " I don't no" to be humble and neutral. Does the board need to decide, you don't know, does Alfa have a good reputation in other countries, you don´t know, does it have a future, you don't know, etc. 4. Carlos Tavares is one of the most respected auto executives and saying he is or aims to be Elon Musk is not a compliment to Carlos. Elon could never do what Carlos has done specially being born in Portugal. 5. You are very selective on the information you share. There are plenty of online resources about Tesla problems that you selectively avoid and you avoid to talk about what Imparato said about the Alfa ranking in the US and the love for brands such as Alfa Romeo. 6. You could have said that Sellantis actually is profitable as been for the last couple of years with increased revenue and earnings. No easy feat specially with a company that is partly in Europe where work rules and all taxes are way higher. Why don´t you use your platform to share toughts mate instead of having and weird polarizing narrative? At least the executives at Alfa have more integrity, their jobs is to create value and they need to say good things... Do better mate!

It was the Lancias, in the 1970s. The Alfas (Not "Alphas") had electrical reliability problems, like every other Italian car of that time. Alfa Romeo is one of the most important historical brands, but it started to become garbage in the 1960s. The ones who made Italy, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, and Bugatti (yes, Ettore Bugatti, before moving to Germany (Alsazia) in need of finance support) are long gone.

While waiting, his wife flew to LA and took a one week racing driver course. The time came to try it out. He was quick, but his wife was quicker. He lost all interest, sold it and bought a plane.

Alfa Romeo has a sports sedan with a Ferrari design 6 cylinder turbo, when it came out years ago had some notoriety here in the USA. But the Brand has been absent from the market here in the states for a very long time and I believe they made a market re-entry about 10 years back. So to many in the US was a novel brand closely related to Ferrari. They essentially marketed as the family Ferrari. They also brought back FIAT in the US around the same time. FIAT was so bad at one time in the 1980s they couldn't get street approved.

They are going to share many parts with Peugeot, Citroen, Dacia, Opel, Fiat in attempt to save the costs. They all will look alike! 😱What a miserable end for once great, original brands!😟 The Chinese could be better choice. Brands like Volvo, MG, Lotus are doing well within 🇨🇳Geely (see new Lotus Emeya Hyper GT😋) In order to mitigate risk when selling to te Chinese the best solution seems to be sale of some shares but not 100%.
