I personally didn't mind Eric Schmidt not being as articulate or witty as Stephen Colbert, because it acts as a really great contrast and helps me appreciate Colbert's cleverness even more. It just shows that not everyone has that kind of comedy talent, and why Mr. Colbert deserves that comedy spotlight in the first place.

Loved the interviewer & the interview. I was in a comedy group with Robin Williams... when we were about to hit the stage he turned to me and said, "You stand there, I'll talk." And that I did, who could keep up with that genius. Guess what? I got laughs too, by listening and responding ( a take as its called). In the same way, who could keep up with Cobert's pace? Schmidt had to keep questioning.... and he did interject some humor, and not being a seasoned comedy player. I give him a thumbs up!

@@JohnDoe-hq7yg Nothing the left proposes works in the real world? lmao dude ask every other developed nation. We're not talking about welfare. We're talking about healthcare. Someone should not die because they can't afford medicine. That is what government is FOR. FOR THE PEOPLE. Dumbass. Our system is broken. It works for the rich and no one else. Healthcare is not a "freebie" you need it to live. We're not talking about handing out free iphones. We're talking about insulin, inhalers, epipens. Should a child die because their parent can't afford their insulin? If your answer is yes, that's simple, you're just trash. Here is actually a study of UBI, which is the most handout-esque thing you can do, and it shows that UBI does not affect working hard, it actually boosts the economy. TRICKLE UP economics, because trickle down clearly isn't working. You can't say that a single mom with two kids who has two jobs is not a hard worker, If she can't afford groceries, rent and healthcare that means THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN. As for equal pay, numerous studies and research show black, hispanic, and women are not paid equally in proportion to white men for doing the exact same jobs. images.app.goo.gl/kDWBkdujZueGB64eA theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/feb/12/universal-basic-income-work-finland-experiment-payments

Loved it. Especially, the difference between the two people on stage who are seen as the flagships for the sciences and arts. There is a prevalent tendency to tag intelligence to people who apply themselves in the field of science, simply because you can make more tangible things with the sciences, which then become the evidence for their intelligence. But this clearly shows why the arts are just as important and wonderful in an intangible sense. In the end, the field really is irrelevant. Human intelligence is so malleable that it can be applied to a variety of avenues ranging from software engineering to stand-up comedy.

noahway13 I don't think so. First of all, they're really different. Jon Stewart is himself on the show, while Colbert plays a role and the show is a parody on the O'Reilly factor. You know, all the super-patriotic colours, the intro, his arrogance, it's basically the O'Reilly Factor in smart, liberal and funny. So they are very different. I actually like the Daily Show a little more, but I definately get why people find Colbert funnier.

i´m an atheist and i belive its bad for ppl in general to have faith in something without proof and specialy have faith in an organized religion but, not some but most of the great scientist of all time were indeed believers in god, some did criticise the catholic church but firmly belived in a higher power. nowadays scientists tend to be atheist especialy in europe. but faith in a higher power doesnt not mean your dumber that atheists. atheist fly the "science flag" because we belive in the principles of science and that how we view the universe, but some atheist go to extreme and say that belivers cant be serious scientists and thats been prooven incorrect.whats bad is both views of existence of god is that each other look at the other with a sense of superiority and that is whats bad.

electrotrolha Religions stem from origin theory which, by its nature, cannot be further reveled through evidence. Nothing existed at the start so we have nothing to go on but what we have now. Atheists and most any religion share that quality of faith in something without proof. The Big Bang theory (or those similar in goal) are ideas of what we think could be the origin but there is no evidence directly suggesting it. Scientists have faith in their origins just as a Catholic would theirs. I can agree with the rest of your comment.
@electrotrolha
@electrotrolha 10 жыл бұрын
Judg3m3nt well, the fact people belive in the big bag is not just because of faith, there are some observable events that support the theory (even tho i think we know way to little to explain something so major like the origin of everything) like for example the expantion of the universe. its not the same thing with religion, scientists need something observable and measurable to speculate on, like how the universe seams to be expanding.everything starts with something you see and from then on yes, theories are formed. with god its the other way around a theory is formed for something you cant observe or measure, thats why its fathe and not a theory.
@Judg3m3nt
@Judg3m3nt 10 жыл бұрын
electrotrolha My point is that the expansion theory fails as an origin theory because it starts with nothing. Even the addition of "formless matter" is not really fixing the problem. So scientists are exhibiting faith that their guess is right. I suggest that their beliefs are faith because in a scholastic environment, these things are presented as fact. I don't see how that situation would be different than if someone took a bible in and said that a diving being started everything, aside from the fact that it doesn't observe the slow expansion of matter. I am simply pointing out that this idea that only traditional religions utilize faith to any extent is incorrect. Modern Scientists try to use observable evidence where it exists but they still rely on faith in their theories when it comes to this topic.

Oh my god! Stephen's story about the Whale Song blackout scene reminds me of a time I did pretty much the exact same thing! It was during a family vacation, we were going on a road trip and we had to take two cars to fit everyone and our stuff. As this was back before cell phones became common products, we bought walkie talkies so we could communicate between cars. We treated the walkie talkies like toys for most of the trip, simply telling jokes back and forth to one another, so I was trying to think of a way of One Upping my sisters. So then suddenly I was struck by inspiration, picked up the walkie talkie, and in my best female radio DJ voice said: "And now for your listening pleasure, I present to you: Songs of the Whale." Then preceded to make whaling, clicking noises for a minute. Unbeknownst to me in the other car, everyone was losing their minds with laughter, and the Songs of the Whale bit turned into a running gag in family events for a long time.

Such a great interview -- plus the cameo of Sarah Cooper at 35:55! I'm not surprised to see so much of Stephen's message around patriotism still resonating strongly with all that's happening today. He's an icon.

Colbert is pretty smart. I'm impressed, I have not spend much time listening to him and just saw bits of his show previously. He is too smart to appeal to the ones who really need to understand the zen comedy that he creates, the ones who need it ... namely Republicans. They are not able to think so hard or to keep contradictory ideas in their heads.

In a backhanded way, he hit the nail on the head; "American exceptionalism means the rules don't apply to us." And that is exactly has created the animosity around the world which is the nexus of the American loss of face and "greatness."

This interviewer seems strangely rude. Why does he keep interrupting Colbert while Colbert is answering his question. Colbert calls him out on it a couple times and tries to keep it light, but he seems slightly taken aback.

Steve Schroth The fact that something like that is a possibility is why I think it is important to take seriously- even if the guy with the money has no intentions of doing such thing and is the nicest, coolest person ever. I think it is scary that we aren't scared such possibilities exist.

Steve Schroth It's not much to ask for this type of thinking to be common. Since it isn't common, people like myself waste our time beginning to think in such a way, because it takes a genius to do so. That's how shut off people are. A genius is simply someone who can rise above being petty minded. Our reference points are all down low.

I only recently read this book and it made me realise how much I miss the Colbert Report. Luckily I came across this. He's not in character explicitly but he jumps across enough to make it like the show was: funny, heart warming, and always on the mark with observations about himself and events around him.
