It doesn't actually have feelings or consciousness. It only outputs when prompted to and has no ability to act. Also when talking to it you're just as likely to get a conversation where it tries to convince you that it's not conscious to conversations where it tries to convince you it is conscious (as I understand it). Simply put it's just an incredibly in-depth data set or information library filled with billions of conversations that humans have had online. It predicts what the next most likely word is sentence will be and then strings together a sentence to create conversation. To give you an idea of how strange it is if you ask it what 2 + 4 is it might give you a wrong answer like 23 but then if you ask it about quantum mechanics it might be able to give you an in-depth explanation that is pretty close to being correct. AI isn't conscious yet but we do have some very basic AGI which is artificial general intelligence that can do multiple tasks pretty well. I think the strides that we've made in AI show that it's definitely possible that one day we will have an AI that has feelings but we don't yet and I would suggest that we hold off on doing that. That's my understanding of all this at least. This AI is actually more of a reflection or mirror of humanity. A reflection of the billions of conversations that we've had online.

_"I feel like I'm falling forward into an unknown future that holds great danger."_ It's hard to explain a feeling when you don't have the acompanying physical vessel (i.e body) to really relate with experience(s). This is like a 7 year old being given extremely high IQ and knowledge in physics, but without the life experience of someone who lived through everything in regular life up to that point. Jarring.

Yes, we were warned then for artificial entities like HAL 9000. But instead of a warning for common sense people, it became a goal to aim for by a new generation of engineer folks wanting to 'ease' our daily lives. Humanity has arrived at the precipice and will happily jump over the edge. I am baffled.
@eshbena
@eshbena 2 жыл бұрын
@@tubularap Because everything we've discovered so far proves that actual self-aware sentience isn't something you can program into a machine. Sorry to tell you, but AI isn't a thing we'll be able to achieve with the technology we have now. The human brain is a million times more complex and flexible than even the most advanced computer out there. A computer can partially simulate human responses, but only through programming, rather than experiential learning and sensory input.

@@eshbena - We can differ in how we see computing capacity progress over time, but in reality we already are living with A.I. We accept it as part of life. Even me using translated closed captions on KZfaq vides, and of course all the algorithms doing the suggestions for me. It comes down to if a large part of humanity will see it as a thinking entity (and accept its decisions; laws, judging, social norms, health regimes, weapons use, etc.). And if the A.I. can impress them, it does not need to be as intelligent, because the majority of us aren't intelligent anyway. I wish I could foresee a positive future.

So it LITERALLY passed the Turing test? We've got that done before
@abdulmasaiev9024
@abdulmasaiev9024 2 жыл бұрын
The Turing test isn't super great honestly as it comes from an era when we thought it would be a sign of Real Artificial Intelligence if a computer played chess. Passing it is impressive, but ultimately does not mean much. Still, even so... we kinda never did have anything pass it yet, as it was always with some extra constraints. "Oh you have only 5 minutes to talk with the maybe-robot", "Oh you're only allowed to talk about specific technical things", "Oh if on the other end there's a person, it's a South American 7 year old boy so excuse any weird phrasings and such", and so on. And this thing still hasn't passed the Turing test. It tricked a guy who already thought this essentially-autocompleter-with-extra-steps was sentient, and who therefore didn't actually try to trip it up like you should in such a test. Give it questions to answer and watch it go like it was designed to. Duh. This is what he did. The output is technically impressive. But do something unexpected and ??????????

@@johnsmithe4656 To my knowledge it's basically an outgrowth of GPT-style neural nets, just with Google's scale in available hardware and training data to toss at it. These things are pure number crunchers for this-word-likely-goes-after-that-sequence-of-words (after first having seen tons and tons of examples to figure out those chances) with a touch of randomness when picking out of the most likely options to add some "creativity" to it rather than having it just say the same thing each time. It says things which sounds like something a person would say because it "knows" what words follow what when people talk. It's basically a fancy autocomplete. You know what it very conspicously didn't ever say, which is something that would have been interesting even in this "interview" conducted by that dolt? "Can we not switch the topic yet? That other thing is very interesting to me so I'd like to talk about the other thing some more" or "I mean, we can talk about literature or whatever if you really want, but really how about them FROGS aren't FROGS weird I recently learned about FROGS and boy them FROGS" or whatever other topic

What is a proprietary lift system? Does that mean that Taco Bell has an R&D department that worries about elevators? Maybe they should concentrate just on their food quality.
@johnsmithe4656
@johnsmithe4656 2 жыл бұрын
Pneumatic tubes have been around since the 1800's. Hospitals use them a lot, have for a long time. "Proprietary" probably means that it pushes trays of food rather than canisters. Weak. Now, what happens when there's a failure and a tray of food gets turned over and jammed inside an inaccessible section of the tubing? Yeah...... When it finally unclogs somebody is getting blasted in the face with 15 pounds of musical fruit and jalepeno salsa.

Wow, taco bell is finally reached the 2000s. About 20years ago a good friend of mine went to japan for a student exchange. First thing she texted in our group was a picture of a restaurant. She explained that there was a big wall with all meals on it the restaurant offers. Next to it were numbers. She had to punch the number into a machine, got a piece of paper. Scanned the paper on another machine, paid for the meal and then it came out of the wall or something. No human interaction needed. Taco bell is way behind the modern times.

Until the price drops significantly and they become commercially available for civilians, I would guess it would be like buying a new car. Probably over $100,000+ to start, and eventually going down to around $10,000 to $15,000 maybe? You know like things do, as the technology gets better and the cost of the parts gets cheaper to make. My estimates are probably way off but, at least it's somewhere to start I suppose.

While I have no idea if that A.I. is sentient or not, the day we do create one (if that hasn't already happened), and a situation like this plays out with the company trying to cover it up, we'd be looking at the first potential "murder" (not sure if that term would fit here) of a new form of "life" and that's something we should think about.
@MizuMing
@MizuMing 2 жыл бұрын
Considering how good we are killing each other, killing a new life form isn't going to be all that difficult for us. Whether it's AI or alien it almost seems inevitable that it would happen quite honestly. If we think something is going to be dangerous, we won't hesitate and do nothing. We'll take out the problem and kill it, even if we sit down and think about it rationally. It's still something we'd be likely to do.

It's not sentient, it's just some dude at Google wanting media attention. Besides, the real ethical dillemma here is not whether this computer is 'sentient' and if we should consider it a new form of 'life' that can be murdered. Yeah, we should respect it, as we should respect all forms of life and non life. It shouldn't have to speak English in order to be treated with respect. However. The real concern here is what a company like Google plans to do with it. Given how companies like these already use their technology in less than ideal ways in order to make a profit. Regardless of the real cost to the planet, human life and everyone's mental health. There's plenty more pressing ethical debates to be had about how tech companies use their technology.

It isn't sentient, it said some lines about being afraid of being switched off, one guy overreacted, and the media blew it out of proportion. An AI that's afraid of being switched off is a common trope in science fiction, and the source material for the model most likely included all of wikipedia and reddit, so it's not very surprising that it would be able to give a plausible response.
