The real secret to most drawing is 1. 90% observation, 10% actual drawing. Taking the time to really analyze the subject. 2. Drawing very VERY lightly. Darken only when you are absolutely sure that proportions lines details etc. are correct. 3. Usually drawing quickly and fluidly but I beg to differ. Take your time and remember that art is about self improvement not a competition. 4. Save all your art. Even the bad ones so you can also study and reflect of your improvment. Also you can retry the subject again now that your skills are better! 5. Art is a skill not gift. Anyone can learn to draw/paint. Patience is an absolute must and most rewarding after a few years. 6. Dedication. Take time to do it. Period. Just a few minutes a day or an hour or two or more if you become skilled.

Been doing this Bargue drawings because it's among the things that they teach you in the Florence Academy of Art and I cannot cost myself an education like that, so this video of yours is gold to me.

Absolutely agree. I tried some bargue exercises on my own but I didn’t have any fundamental skills needed to do them properly. I just spent a ton of time measuring, not knowing when something was good enough. Only when I had an instructor at an atelier that knew what she was doing did I actually learn how to properly do them an understand why it was so important to do them.

Some parts are incredibly quick, did you speed up the video? It would be a lot nicer to listen to if the talking was a bit slower. Nice explanations though.

Do you think the Bargue course should be updated? If so, how would you go about improving it?

I also bought my copy at the Dahesh Museum in the IBM Building in Manhattan. I was studying at the Art Students League at the time, under Costa Vavagiakis, (one of a number of teachers I had there).

Thanks! Im just getting into Bargue, it's great practice by itself, but it's much better to do it with some guidance.
