Excellent video man I looked at one the other day kept stalling and you would have to cycle the key off then on while driving. Broken off oil cap oil all over parts of the motor blowing blue smoke and blew the water pump while driving sounded like engine was missing real bad. I actually told the guy he could pay me to take it off his hands. Pissed me off like you I drove an hour and a half because he told me it runs great. Didn't know you could check compression that way that will help on the next one I look at. The last one made me more interested in another cummins. Thanks for the video

Just bought a 1999 7.3 with 450 thousand on the body.And it looks great. It is an auction truck. I looked at it and the front end was rebuilt and the motor looks new, Also no blowby at all hmmmm. It is a 4x4 4dr. I drove it 250 miles home 17 mpg I was amazed. Also the transmission shifts hard and quick so it seems to have been rebuilt also. I love it so far. It replaced a 97 4x4 dodge ram 5.9 the rams motor was great however the body and the front end was horrible. The diesel mileage is about the same. This ford drives ten times better I really hope it holds up new to the 7.3 but so far I am happy. Only thing not working is the cruise control.

I can tell you all are from down south somewhere between the accents and the talk about glow plugs and block heaters. While what you said about Injectors being the problem over anything else like glow plugs for problems starting in the cold is actually correct glow plugs are 100% an important thing to maintain especially when you live in a climate where you can see a foot of snow or more drop over night and minus 20-30 degrees over night is not uncommon

Can anyone explain the starter wire to battery part of the video as to what the ACTUAL purpose of disconnecting that wire and touching it to the battery would be for? I understand the reason why he does this to check for compression but aside from that, why would you want to unplug that wire and connect direct to battery if it will cause the engine to turn over but not start, thanks!

Great stuff guys. I bought a 1996 F250 7.3 HD truck from the original owner. Very well kept with maintenance records etc with 130K miles now it's at 140K. I've had for 3 years. I have the battery light flickering on and going off recently getting a bit worse in last month or so. I checked and cleaned terminals= minimal corrosion. Batteries topped with fluid in them & cables looked fine.... only one slite thing I found was passenger side battery was moving around a 1/4 - 1/2 inch..... Any suggestions on what to look for????? Thanks guys

mostly good advice here - he knows mostly what he is talking about - good vid... A couple things I will say: the 7.3s are historically temperamental regarding temperature.. down to 30-35 degrees, these trucks theoretically SHOULD start without glow plugs. buying a 200-300k mile truck and expecting it to start in 30 degree weather without glow plugs is not great advice nor is it realistic. I am not sure what logic their is to not cycle them under about 45 degrees. It really increases the longevity of the truck and allows it to start a lot easier, is easier on starter, batteries, etc. etc. Similarly to plugging it in. These block heaters pull upwards of 1000W. they only need to be on for about 2 hours to heat the coolant/block sufficiently to provide easy starts. Its just good practice. Also, I would not refuse buying a truck because the glow plugs didnt operate. A Glow plug relay is 40 dollars and a set of glow plugs is 80. Overalll great advice Steve.

Hey man where can I find that wire on a obs style ?
@tylerheinisch688
@tylerheinisch688 3 жыл бұрын
On an obs Ford you can actually just jump the starter solenoid directly. The starter solenoid on those trucks should be mounted on the passenger side of the engine bay on the fender. Look for something with two larger studs on it and two smaller studs/wires and boots. You can pull the boot for the trigger wire off and just jump the solenoid with a pair of pliers or something from the hot post to the trigger post, then it will crank over.

What if my 97 7.3 has a miss and also when it's cold and I start it, it will start and then shut right off, I can start it again and it will run maybe a minute or two and then cuts off again? Is that line a bleed back issue in my fuel lines? I check the filter changed the fuel filter and the bowl is full. And it will keep shutting off. If I can keep it running and I go drive it it will stay running and smooth out until I come back home sitting in the driveway idling you can feel and see a miss.
