I actually had one, a Porta-B model with the Leslie cab. My 2nd ex-wife gave it away the day before I showed up to get it and the rest of my stuff. I about cried, but really the joke was on her. It worked, all the keys, all the sliders, the cab, everything. She could have got a ton of cash for it, but just gave it away as junk. Sniff 😢. Oh well, life goes on, and my Roland synth comes fairly close to replicating that awesome sound. A LOT lighter, too.

Great song. A masterpiece with incredible lyrics. They were just as fitting in the late 60's as they are today. Maybe even more so. The lines "Americia where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters, America, we need you now, we can't fight alone against the Monster " and "The police force is watching the people " and finally " and IT just sits there watching " . That's a reference to The Monster, which is a bloated, greedy, corrupt, uncaring power hungry goverment. The song describes a very accurate journey through American history and her social injustice and political greed. An amazing prediction of life in 2020 made in 1966 - 67. But yet..... Still the greatest nation on Earth, despite our many shortcomings. And considering our relatively short 250 year history we have a way to go for perfection, but have achieved more in 250 years than most nations that have been around for 600 or more years, some much much longer.

The rasp in the vocal you hear is from waaayyy back to the beginning! Late 1960s hard rock and heavy metal pioneer John Kay of Steppenwolf, as a young teen who only spoke German in East Prussia in the mid-1950s, was first inspired by and learned about rock ‘n’ roll music while listening to Little Richard's 'Tutti Frutti' on a U.S. Armed Forces station on a homemade radio in 1956. Kay would later state, "it was unlike anything I ever heard before and it was instant 'chicken skin time' - I mean goosebumps from head to toe. From that time on my focus was to hear as much of that stuff as possible, and after a while, it became a kind of adolescent dream that someday would be on the other side of the ocean, would learn how to speak English, and this music is something that I would play."

Trivia fact: this song was featured in the movie Star Trek: First Contact when Zefram Cochrane, Will Riker and Jordi LaForge rode the phoenix into orbit and jump to warp for about a minute, thereby drawing the attention of the Vulcans, who were on the outer edges of the Sol system at the time and picked it up on their sensors leading to first contact. This was at the point where the federation came to be on one side of the mirror and the Terran Empire on the other due to a decision made by Cochrane. Here is the clip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK-gi7yGkp-ncoE.html The other song could be "Born To Be Wild".

@@bowmanbk1 jkl; No matter the order, those were a great start. I wish I could remember where I started, but I know RUSH's first was right there. Pretty sure Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath was a number 2 or 3 (not counting Elvis, had far too many of those from the 60's on). It's kinda hard to remember because my mother worked nights at Buffalo's Children's Hospital and won tons of music with contests as she was in the records room, so she had ample chances to call in with 5 lines to call from, and the radio station was basically on the way home. So she had me stocked pretty well early on. Mom was the bomb! The best part, she'd keep the cheesy crap and gave me all the hard rock records. RIP mom, thanks for sharing all of that with me rather than my asshat brother! (He was the type to tuck in his sweatshirts, what a maroon!)
