Great song. A masterpiece with incredible lyrics. They were just as fitting in the late 60's as they are today. Maybe even more so. The lines "Americia where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters, America, we need you now, we can't fight alone against the Monster " and "The police force is watching the people " and finally " and IT just sits there watching " . That's a reference to The Monster, which is a bloated, greedy, corrupt, uncaring power hungry goverment. The song describes a very accurate journey through American history and her social injustice and political greed. An amazing prediction of life in 2020 made in 1966 - 67. But yet..... Still the greatest nation on Earth, despite our many shortcomings. And considering our relatively short 250 year history we have a way to go for perfection, but have achieved more in 250 years than most nations that have been around for 600 or more years, some much much longer.

@brod75013 жыл бұрын
The rasp in the vocal you hear is from waaayyy back to the beginning! Late 1960s hard rock and heavy metal pioneer John Kay of Steppenwolf, as a young teen who only spoke German in East Prussia in the mid-1950s, was first inspired by and learned about rock ‘n’ roll music while listening to Little Richard's 'Tutti Frutti' on a U.S. Armed Forces station on a homemade radio in 1956. Kay would later state, "it was unlike anything I ever heard before and it was instant 'chicken skin time' - I mean goosebumps from head to toe. From that time on my focus was to hear as much of that stuff as possible, and after a while, it became a kind of adolescent dream that someday would be on the other side of the ocean, would learn how to speak English, and this music is something that I would play."

Trivia fact: this song was featured in the movie Star Trek: First Contact when Zefram Cochrane, Will Riker and Jordi LaForge rode the phoenix into orbit and jump to warp for about a minute, thereby drawing the attention of the Vulcans, who were on the outer edges of the Sol system at the time and picked it up on their sensors leading to first contact. This was at the point where the federation came to be on one side of the mirror and the Terran Empire on the other due to a decision made by Cochrane. Here is the clip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pK-gi7yGkp-ncoE.html The other song could be "Born To Be Wild".

God, I wish KZfaq had a "love" button. Please check out Steppenwolf's song Monster. I bought the album in the 70's, and I still have it, and I bought the cd in the 90's and I still have that too. That whole album was about what was happening in the day, but it is prolific for today as well.

The Pusher was written by Hoyt Axton. Check out the original, completely different feel. Hoyt was a prolific writer. Joy To The World and Never Been To Spain by Three Dog Night were written by Hoyt. Also Ringo's No No Song! His mother wrote Heartbreak Hotel. Hoyt was an actor too. You probably know him as the father who gave his son the cute furry critter in the movie Gremlins.

Run it through a fuzzbox, and you've got Jon Lord. Stab the keyboard with a dagger, you've got Keith Emerson. Push the "Tibia" drawbars in, you've got Rick Wakeman. Pull those drawbars back out, you've got Tony Kaye. Use just the "Tibia" drawbars, and it's Booker T. Washington.
