My calling!!! I am going back to school in January to start my nurse journey. When I was in high school I volunteer and I loved it. Somehow life shifted to something else and I been a hairdresser for 10 years but I cannot anymore. I want to make my dreams come true to become a midwife 🙏 I am 32 and 3 kids but I don’t care. I can do everything through Christ who gave me strength. 🙌🏼

My parents were midwifes in my hometown! People form other towns will travel to see my dad. The amazing thing here is they were empirical midwifes, they didn’t attend school, they learned everything thanks to their mothers who learned from their grandmothers! Since I was little I saw with so much excitement a lot of deliveries even in our living room! I was 11 when I discovered I wanted to do the same for the rest of my life!

There is so much opportunity in the healthcare field. I love nurses. I own a healthcare company and working with nurses has always been a pleasure. You've given some great tips for those who are interested in nursing outside of just being a nurse. I think experience before you start a job after getting out of school is so important. Especially now. I'm completing my Ph.D in human behavior so psychology is what I study a lot. Every field benefits from a psychology degree. Your diverse background offers you so many amazing opportunities. Congrats on your success. Blessings!

I’m passionate about mental health, holistic health & practices and the overall medicinal practices too 🤗. My first program was psychology and I dropped out 2 years in. One of my friends finally said to me: “I’m glad you’re going into nursing now because I was confused about your direction in social services”🤣🤣 I’m glad I didn’t go straight into nursing after hs because I was squeamish about EVERYTHING! 🙈🤣 Life is worth all of the experiences and no regrets ❤️

I'm in my first year of college, and I'm having a hard time because English is not my native language. However, I truly want to become a midwife so I'm managing... @@GlobalMidwife Thank you for responding! Can I ask you in which state do you work? From my brief research, I realized that the gynecologist is the one who is really present as a midwife. For example, in Israel, from where I come, there are not private gynecologists in the hospitals but only nurse-midwives. A Gynecologist in the hospital in Israel does cesarean or interferes with a regular birth only in exceptional cases. I know in New York it's different but I still have not got the idea of a nurse-midwife here. Stay well :)
@GlobalMidwife
@GlobalMidwife 3 жыл бұрын
rachelisi1 honestly it really depends on the practice here in the States. Even in the same state, you will see variety. Some practices don’t use Midwives at all. Those who have Midwives may practice where the Midwives handle all of the normal births while the Doctor does the high risk births or C-sections. Some practices may have where Doctors do both normal and abnormal births. It really is up to how the practice decides to operate. However, it is our scope of practice as Midwives to attend normal, low risk pregnancies. We do vaginal births but cannot do C-sections as we are not trained as surgeons

Wow, It's so different from Brazil. Here we need to took a test for entering in nurse college right before you came out of high school. You don't get to decide into college what you are going to be, you take the test already knowing what you are going to study. That's why people have to make several times our "SAT" (vestibular) until they discover what they really wants to do for a living. Nursing school is a 5 years course, and then if you want to become a midwife 2 more years of residency. There's a course here called técnico de enfermagem which is someone who helps nurses in basic care (without college degree).

Yazmine Hooper you’re welcome and congrats on almost being done! Understandable that it will be hard to get in person experience now. Search for virtual maternal child health internships or jobs, try to be creative and just show you have a passion for it
