One of my favourite episodes. The way they all can write/perform the comedy around something miserable is pure genius. The episode itself has some classic lines 😅

These shows should never die. It's gotten to the point where the teen generations of today have no idea what it was like back then and most of their grandparents were too young to remember as well. One more generation and these shows will be educational more than ever.

@SamuelBlack84 It would become a little outdated to them I think, if not already. In many ways. But yeah, I know what you mean, I imagine alot of things were a little too... Old fashioned, where the relation portrayals are concerned.

wonderful episode, beautifully colourised ruined only by the callous audience laughing at poor Hercules death!always bugged me how they found it funny when most of us were sad!!

@@SOffenbach Agreed. Nothing like the properly made colour episodes of the 70s, and to make matters worse the volume is a lot lower.

I've been to serious plays before where the most emotional lines for some reason garner a fit of laughter from everyone in the audience, usually the old farts with a few dozen whiskys down their throats

Marvelous timeless stuff!..unlike some of the people commenting on this video the studio audience knew the horse was not really dead!

Everyone in that audience would have known or lost someone in world wars,work conditions, disease even Fog.Death was handled differently.

I love old man steptoe. Cracks me right up with the facial expressions. It's just really odd seeing this in colour so used to watching it in b&w. But if it's in colour or b&w this programme will always be a true classic

It was originally made in color. But it only exists as a black and white VCR-copy today. A fan has re-colored it.

A mans livelihood collapses in front of him (crowd laughs), his steed and years-long workmate shoved in an abottior van (crowd laughs), left with a cart too heavy to move by himself with a cop eyeing him to shift it (crowd laughs), we're a really weird bunch sometimes

The start is honestly hard to watch. Good comedy needs a bit of salt and vinegar; this proves it. "30 pieces of silver" was both funny and painful. There is social history here - the bit where they seal the handshake with spit when agreeing the horse deal is authentic.
