Hi Kev, l am 76 years old and have been buying and wearing hats for more 60 years. I appreciate your videos so much because I learn something new with each video. The three hats you talked about in this video I happen too own one or more of the three and still learned something new. Thanks again Kev😀

I went for the Akubra because I live in a rainy place but I suspect s Queen (Hamilton) is in my future. The rain on the left coast here tends to be light rain that just never stops, so it should not damage either the Hamilton or the Whippet with a bit of exposure. My Stylemaster is the long walks in the rain hat.

Thanks Kevin for another informative video, I’ve watching your videos for 2yrs now and always learn something new, I always said the whippet was going to be my first hat but I still haven’t gotten one, now four hats later all I have is JJs own hats from Spain expect for the signes hat that I got off the half price rack from a video you did almost 2yrs ago, I called you on the phone and you hooked me up with, a $300 hat for $150 , so now I have a Seville, Cyrus, Signes and still got to add a whippet and when I do get one I would like to have a Hamilton style band put on it, like the way you want all Tommy James on us , next you should go electric on us and with all the peddles you have you should do Crimson and Clover , remember that one by Tommy James, peace ✌️ and stay safe and healthy my brother your the genuine person on KZfaq

I do like that one, Tommy James.. love that song, I want to do a Turtles song too, and maybe I’ll tackle,”Skating Away(on the thin ice of a new day) by Jethro Tull, Crimson and clover, great tremolo on the guitar..like Bo Diddley! wow, I’m only doing videos seriously for a couple years, you’re a viewer from the start, huh? btw, the Signes is from Spain too...that’s the only hat brand that still uses real silk liners,and their felt is at least 25-50% thicker than anyone else’s..those hats are extraordinary. It feels like a $350-400 hat, and I think they were on sale for $87 or some ridiculously low price.. u have good taste. In music, and hats!

Good evening Mr. Kevin, Im a long time viewer and first time commenter on your channel. Ive been wearing and collecting hats, since I was a kid. The first fur felt hat that I ever got, is a Stetson dress hat thats a dress hat with a western hybrid style that I got from Arnold Hatters. They were my favorite hat store, and was sad when they closed back in 2009. The Rubins were nice, and I enjoyed buying from them. I also really loved their store branded fur felt hats, many of their store branded dress hats, had western hat stiffness and durability, which is the type of fur felt dress hats that I prefer. I chose to comment because I also own a few of the Sterling Selentino hats in steel grey , and a few Akubra Stylemaster hats, both in federation navy, and charcoal. I also have their Akubra Bogart hat in charcoal grey. Ive learned a lot from your videos about hat history, and other hat information. Im also into music, mostly 1980's music (Metal, hard rock, and New Wave). But Im mostly into collecting action figures, bronze age comic books, and dress hats. I used to collect guitars in my teens, but I no longer have the storage space. Any way keep up the good work, and have a nice evening.

@@quadrogong1111 Youre welcome. Thank you for your message, and encouragement.I had strat-like guitars in my teens. The first guitar that I ever owned was a Yamaha. I then took a liking to Jackson guitars, due to classic Megadeth (original line-up with Chris Poland/Gar Samuelson, and then the Jeff Young/Chuck Behler line-up) and Ratt (Robbin Crosby/Warren DeMartini line-up) being some of my favorite bands. The warrior guitar in metallic blue, and the king V in metallic blue stood out to me. I also like Johnny Ramone's Mosrite in blue, and Kurt Cobain's lake-placid blue mustang guitar, and Brian May's red special. To name a few gutairs. I also like Roland keyboards and synthesizers.

Interesting travia Kevin. In the late 60's early 70's Stetson under licence here in Australia, Akubra made Stetson's. And sold as Royal Stetson's called the "Hugel" model. Which was basically an Akubra felt hat with a Royal Stetson gold foiled logos on a black leather sweat band. I researched this after 2 Royal Stetson's became available on eBay Australia. These were once sold by Pitt St Cooper Hatter's in Sydney and Under the Bridge Hatter's in Melbourne. But l am not sure if these fake Royal Stetson Akubra's were sold in the U.S. or Not ?

I want an akubra stylemaster. Not sure about the color, but Carbon grey is interesting. I really would like Campdraft, (don't think they are making them now due to Covid) because I am into flyfishing and like the idea of ruggedness and the easy to shape crown. After doing research on Akubra I really like their products. Did you ever see the photos of old worn hats? Like an companion on lifes adventures! Coober pedy now has a ribbon style band, and bound edge. Pop the back of the brim up, and it is styling!

That is an amazing hat, that’s the one w 5e opal on the band? And the barramundi fish skin band? I think.. they’re all great, I like that one a lot, u might also like the Riverina, the stylemaster is my favorite but it’s more of a classic fedora made from tough felt. Go w the Coober... or the Banjo Patterson, or the Riverina if u want to get real rugged and outbacky... I am partial to the stylemaster, it’s by far my favorite model, perhaps my vote for the best performing/most rainproof snap brim-classic style hat available today..at any price. It’s extraordinary l we are doing 25% off every akubra today by the way. The discount code is on in my post, at the top of the last five videos I uploaded www.jjhatcenter.com

Kirk rocked a shaggy silk finish light grey with blue ribbon. For the longest time I thought the shoeshine boy was played by Glenn Scarpelli(actually I thought it was Meeno Peluce)who was in One Day at a Time later,but just checked IMDB and Peluce was born in the same year as me(1970)and Scarpelli would have been 1 or 2 the year Piece was filmed. That's one fucked up Mandela Effect I got going on. Now I'm wondering where I was introduced to Meeno Peluce,lol.

hey Kevin are there any major differences between the premier stratoliner and the S.E. I really like vintage style fedoras and you recommended the premier for the 30s look. does the S.E. have that 30s look to? Also is the stetsonian sold out permanently?
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 3 жыл бұрын
No more Stetsonians..we blew them out half price. The SE is a regular whippet Crown,comes with a standard teardrop, pre-shaped, and the felt is thinner than the premier. The premier comes open crown, so it's hard shaped.. it's a much higher crown,and wider,baggy and boxy,like an old vintage hat.. and the felt is thicker. They're not the same..at all. They look quite different. The SE is easier for most folks to stomach,it's more mainstream.. and the premier is a vintage purist's dream.. more baggy,more fabric to play with..

They are all on order, they don’t tell us when each hat arrives, they arrive in partial shipments, throughout the months of November and December Stetson begins shipping around end of October, usually the bulk of our Stetson felts arrive between November 1- December 15 , I’ll say this year they’re at least two weeks behind schedule. it could be any day, like tomorrow or Monday..it could be a week or two, or sometime in December.. we don’t know. They’re all late, technically.. but this is typical. No way to tell, unfortunately..but I watch the new arrivals section daily, I’ll try to announce them here if it happens

Kevin, any thoughts on the Stetson Mercury? I've been debating between the 3 on this vid, also the Temple, Mercury and Saxon. Thank you in advance.
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 2 жыл бұрын
Saxon is much stronger than the Temple, which is sensitive to rain , Snow and steam w it's thinner felt ,long brim and raw edge. Saxon Yes. Great hat. But the Temple is much wider, and thinnish. The Mercury I've never seen so I can't comment in it. Saxon is a medium brim,temple is a wide brim.

You would need to pay the hat maker to make u that band. It's costly,like $40 or so. They have to make that band custom,from scratch..the only way But sure, yes. $40 extra I think and they make any bow,any width,or color u want.. it makes it non-exchangeable though.( If u alter it)

Hi Kevin, teardrops aside, how do you rate the felts from Christy's?
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 3 жыл бұрын
It depends, they’ve changed so many times through the years, they were famous for the Christie’s Roll Up, which was Very thin, very light and comfy but not a hat for rain or snow by any means, I don’t think the price is worth it anymore, it’s soared up incredibly.. I believe Roché makes the exact same hat, branded with various names, for $225, we sell them for half price in our back roo, section now, it’s called “The Explorer” and the wide brim version is “the expedition” same thing, rolls up, every specification is the same as the Christie’s.. these are light,light hats, no leather sweatband, no lining, no Reed in the sweatband.. they are exceptionally light and soft.. I am not sure what the actual Christie’s sell for now... but I never cared for them much personally, I love the little red boxes,.and their bowlers are still the finest production off the rack Bowler u can get.. but the Christie’s felt is too soft for me, the crowns are way too low and too talented, it can be an elegant look for an older man looking for a conservative look.. but that hat is not for me. now I cannot judge an entire hat LINE..those lines are vast, different felts, qualities, prices,and dozens of styles.. I haven’t seen the line since the 90’s, when we carried them... but for me, i always preferred the Borsalino stuff in that price range.. after their bankruptcy I lost faith in the brand, but back in those days,i felt the Christie’s trilby look was a bit wishy washy for me, the low crowns, thin ribbon,soft felt.. That’s not me...I like a bold,higher crown with a center crease,and a good,snappy feel. It’s been too long for me to actually judge the whole line, but I’m familiar w the “Christie’s Roll Up” and their hard bowler, I give the bowler a 10 though.

@@quadrogong1111 - Thank you Kevin, that is most informative. The depth of your knowledge is remarkable. I have an open crown sable from Christies that I'm fairly happy with. Was wondering if they had different qualities of felt. Now I have some perspective. I've learned a lot from your videos in the past year. Wish I had known about Roche, as I was in Seville in the fall of 2019. I ended up buying a Panizza wool felt from another lovely store there , Maquedano Sombreros. I have the Stylemaster in Acorn (you helped me figuring out the colour) which I got from DelMonico since JJ didn't have my size. The Hamilton in black should be with me shortly (fingers crossed). Cheers

I don't own a Whippet, but I have Stratoliners and Temples, and two Stylemasters. I confess I prefer the Stylemaster because the felt seems stiffer and thicker. What hat are you wearing today? I've been looking for a blue fedora that's lighter than the Temple. I tried a Cyrus but returned it because it was as dark as the Temple I have.
@quadrogong1111
@quadrogong1111 3 жыл бұрын
If u want a navy blue that’s really BLUE , and not that dark,dark,barely blue-almost black (like the temple) that’s the Seville. It comes in a real blue-blue shade of navy. They have a brown band, and we have a few with grey bands..but the color is exactly what you’re looking for. Most of those navy blue hats are dark, from many brands. The only other really blue felt I can think of has a short brim, the Asher in “True Blue”.. it’s a small brim, but it’s stylish and wonderful, everyone seems to like it,no matter what brim they’re used to.. and yes, I agree..the Stylemaster has the best felt..it’s rugged and thick,but breaks in nicely. I think the whippet is almost the same shape as your Stratoliner, so I wouldn’t worry about not having a whippet, they’re almost identical..just different trim, (thin band,thin binding vs thick band,thick binding)

Hi Kevin. I'm hearing that Akubras stand up well to the rain, as you said, but would it be too far to call it a rain hat? It's one thing getting caught in the rain and it being ok, but if it is a rainy day would you go out wearing it?
@quadrogong1111

It’s not really a rain hat technically, but it will withstand rain very well, just hang it away from heat, or hot rooms.. It’ll be okay, as far as felts go, they’re the best for rain resistance
